Ryan sent a text as he got out of arrivals, tugging his coat tighter against the cold.
Ryan: Just landed. I'm about to get a taxi.
The reply came immediately, as if Carl had been waiting for it.
Carl: Okay. I'm with the guys. They told me to say hello.
Ryan smiled faintly at the screen. He raised his hand to stop a passing car, wheeling his box closer to the curb as he typed back.
Ryan: "Say Hi for me. I've gotten a cab now. Have fun and don't drink too much, we'll talk later."
Carl: "Yes, sir."
A second later, another message popped up. A picture of Carl holding a glass of Orange juice.
Carl: "No alcohol for me."
Ryan sent a thumbs-up sticker and slipped his phone into his pocket. He walked to the back of the taxi and carefully stored his box in the boot before stepping forward to take his seat. He gave the driver his parents' address and leaned back, watching the city blur past.
