The Alpha Council meeting dragged on like a prison sentence. Every minute felt like an hour as I sat beside Leo, trying to maintain a calm exterior while my insides twisted with anxiety. The Council members droned on about pack territories, resource allocations, and security protocols, but I barely registered their words.
All I could think about was Roman's eyes on me from across the room.
"And now to the final matter," announced Elder Miriam, her authoritative voice cutting through my thoughts. "After careful deliberation, the Council proposes that Alphas Vance and West co-host this year's Alpha Ball."
A stunned silence fell over the room.
"Co-host?" Leo's voice was dangerously quiet beside me.
Elder Miriam nodded firmly. "Yes. The Council believes a joint effort would demonstrate unity during these... fractious times."
I glanced at Roman, who sat rigid in his chair. His expression was carved from stone, but I could see the muscle twitching in his jaw.
