Chapter 63 - SIXTY-THREE

The drive home was wrapped in silence.

Not the comfortable kind, not the easy sort that sometimes fell between two people who didn't need words. But the uncomfortable kind that was heavy. Heavy with dozens of unspoken words that now lingered in the air.

Lana sat angled toward the window, her hands knotted together on her lap, refusing to glance at Alexander. Not even once. She might have been a bit calmer than she was when she returned to the party hall earlier but her nerves were still a total mess. Her heart was still hammering in her chest, making her hyperaware of her every sound- the hum of the engine, the faint shift of gears and the occasional soft groans from Alexander as his tires hit something unplanned.

 She could look at literally anything in the car. Her dress, her clutch, the gear, the window and even the steering wheel. But alexander was far off that list. Because if she looked at him, she knew- she knew- she'd remember the balcony.
