Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: A System with a Screw Loose

"I wish to ride the wind and soar into the heavens, to roam freely and without restraint."

"Ah… this feels amazing!"

After forty years in the Douluo Continent, Lin Fan was finally experiencing sword flight for the first time.

Soaring freely through the skies, feeling unrestrained and carefree—this sensation made Lin Fan feel that all his years of hard cultivation had been worth it.

While some Titled Douluo couldn't fly, Lin Fan's Azure Shadow Sword was a wind-attribute martial soul. Now that he had broken through to Titled Douluo, he could harness his powerful soul power and wind attribute abilities to achieve sword flight, just like in cultivation novels from his past life.

With sword-like brows and starry eyes, flowing black hair, and dressed in a long cyan robe, Lin Fan soared gracefully through the skies, exuding an aura of elegance and otherworldliness.

By evening.

Lin Fan flew into Soto City, landing in a secluded, shadowed alleyway with no one around.

He had spent over a month in the Star Dou Great Forest, searching for a suitable soul beast for his ninth ring, before finally encountering the Saber-Toothed Tiger.

It had taken him several more days to slay the beast and complete the absorption of its soul ring, thus reaching the level of Titled Douluo.

Now, Lin Fan thought it best to clean himself up, take a bath, change his clothes, and then head to Shrek Academy.

Besides, he wasn't even sure if it was enrollment season at the academy yet.

Stepping out of the alley, Lin Fan walked through the streets, looking for an inn.

Before long, he spotted a hotel with an overly pink and extravagant exterior.

At first glance, it wasn't a "serious" establishment.

"Hey there, handsome! Care to stay for the night?"

A charming young lady at the entrance waved at him with a teasing smile.

Lin Fan, maintaining a serious expression, walked over without hesitation.

Don't misunderstand—he wasn't drawn by the woman.

It was simply because of the hotel's name: Rose Hotel.

"Hi there, miss. Got any rooms available?" Lin Fan asked.

"Of course, handsome! Our hotel has big, round, soft beds~"

The young woman shot him a flirtatious glance.

"Hmm, big and round for sure. As for soft… well, I guess I'll find out myself."

Lin Fan raised an eyebrow and smirked.

"I'll take one of your big, round, soft bedrooms."

"Right away, sir. Please follow me~"

Smiling brightly, the young lady led Lin Fan into the hotel.

If Lin Fan remembered correctly, this was the hotel where Tang San and Xiao Wu would eventually stay for a night.

After paying at the front desk, Lin Fan headed up to the second floor and arrived at Room 202.

As expected, the room was as advertised—big, round, and soft. The bed was surrounded by rose decorations, with rose petals arranged into a heart shape right in the middle.

"Close the door," Lin Fan ordered.

"Yes, sir!"

The young woman closed the door and then walked toward him.

"What do you think you're doing?" Lin Fan frowned.

"Accompanying you for the night, of course. No charge~"

The woman gave him a sultry smile, assuming he was a wealthy, extraordinary figure based on his handsome and refined aura.

"No charge? Tch, you just want something else."

Lin Fan's face darkened. He flicked a gold soul coin at her.

"Take this and get out."

Startled by Lin Fan's imposing presence, the woman's body trembled slightly.

She hurriedly grabbed the coin and fled the room, her face pale with fear.

"I'm a dignified Titled Douluo—has my taste and self-respect fallen this low?"

Afterward, Lin Fan bathed, changed into fresh clothes, and stood by the bed.

A gentle green breeze from his sword blew away the heart-shaped petals on the bed.

He hadn't had a proper night's sleep during his time in the Star Dou Great Forest.

The next noon.

Lin Fan woke up from his satisfying rest, feeling refreshed.

He strolled through the streets, looking for food, shopping for new clothes, and casually inquiring about academy admissions.

"At least the system got the timeline right."

After asking around, Lin Fan confirmed that the nearby academies were indeed enrolling new students—Shrek Academy included.

During the daytime, the Rose Hotel looked much more normal than it did at night, without the seductive atmosphere.

Shortly after returning to his room, Lin Fan heard a commotion from the hotel lobby.

Standing by the hallway upstairs, he watched the scene below with great interest.

A golden-haired lion-like young man was embracing a pair of twin sisters, facing off against a plain-looking blue-clad boy, accompanied by a girl dressed in pink.

"Ah, the youth these days sure know how to have fun," Lin Fan chuckled in amusement.

"Wait… hold on. Isn't this the scene where Tang San, Xiao Wu, and Dai Mubai have their infamous hotel encounter?"

His eyes sharpened as he stared at the girl beside the blue-clad boy.

Under Lin Fan's intense gaze, the seemingly ordinary girl suddenly appeared to transform into a cute pink bunny in his eyes.

"So adorable…"

"Seriously, too cute."

Lin Fan fought the urge to act impulsively and quickly looked away from the tempting little rabbit.

"Still… if I grilled those rabbit legs with cumin, spiced up the head, and braised the body in soy sauce, it would probably taste amazing…"

Growl~

Suddenly, his stomach rumbled loudly.

"Ugh, time to grab a bite."

Thinking no further, Lin Fan left the hotel.

"Huh? Why does this place feel so creepy and eerie all of a sudden?"

Xiao Wu's sharp eyes swept around the hotel suspiciously.

As for the room dispute between Tang San and Dai Mubai, Lin Fan wasn't the least bit interested.

The next day.

Dressed in an ivory-white robe and with his long hair neatly tied back, Lin Fan checked out of the Rose Hotel and headed toward Shrek Academy.

By the time he arrived, there was already a long line of students waiting to enroll.

Among the crowd, Tang San and Xiao Wu were also present.

Looking at the group of immature children, Lin Fan's face darkened.

"System, stop playing dead. Can't I just apply to be a teacher at Shrek instead of pretending to be a student?"

"I mean, seriously—how old do you think I am? You think I have no shame?"

[Host is 12 years old. Please adhere to the system's registered age.]

"I'm NOT twelve, damn it!"

[Please adhere to the system's registered age.]

"I'm a forty-six-year-old Titled Douluo! And you still want me to pretend to be a student?!"

[Please adhere to the system's registered age.]

Lin Fan was furious, practically trembling from rage.

Even if he claimed to be twelve, nobody would believe him. His mature, weathered appearance wasn't something makeup could cover—unless he completely altered his face.

While he looked about twenty-five on the surface—thanks to his Titled Douluo-level physique—there was no hiding the deep, worldly aura he'd accumulated over four decades.

"You've got a screw loose somewhere, System. Why don't you show yourself so I can fix you up?" Lin Fan growled.

Plus, with his towering height, he stood out like a crane among these twelve-year-old kids.

"How about this, System—forget the whole student thing. I'll just beat up Tang San right here at Shrek's gate to finish the mission. Deal?"

[Host must complete the mission as specified.]

"Fine, just you wait. Once I become a god, you're the first thing I'm uninstalling."

While Lin Fan grumbled and argued with the system, it was finally his turn in line.

He casually placed ten gold soul coins on the desk and reached out his hand.

The admissions officer, Li Yusong, lounged lazily in his seat as he placed his hand on Lin Fan's palm.

"Hmm, strong bones, but…"

Li Yusong raised his head to look at Lin Fan, his face turning dark.

"Sir, please bring your child here for testing."

Li Yusong muttered inwardly,

"Does this guy seriously not realize how old he looks?"

"Teacher, I am twelve. Soul power, Rank 28."

Lin Fan nearly wanted to bury himself in the ground from the shame of it.

He muttered under his breath,

"The system made me say it."

"Scram. Twelve? You call that twelve? If you're going to act young, at least make it believable,"

Li Yusong said, utterly speechless as he looked at the experienced, world-weary Lin Fan.

"Don't waste my time."

"Oh, feeling pretty cocky, huh, teacher?"

Lin Fan smirked, then reached over and casually wrapped an arm around Li Yusong's shoulder.

"Come on, let's have a little chat over there."

"What terrifying strength—I can't move at all!"

Li Yusong's expression changed dramatically as Lin Fan dragged him behind a nearby tree, out of sight.

"What do you want?"

Li Yusong asked warily.

"Relax, teacher. I just want to show you something."

Lin Fan smiled and casually spread his hand, releasing his martial soul and soul rings.

"One, two… nine! My respects, Your Eminence!"

Li Yusong's eyes widened in shock as he counted the rings.

"So… can I enroll now?"

Lin Fan asked calmly as he retracted his martial soul.
