Chapter 6 - CHAPTER SIX

Maxwell was still leaning on the car when he saw a familiar figure pass by him.

He stood upright, following the person's movement with his eyeballs.

"Micheal? Why is he here?" Maxwell thought to himself. He slid his phone to his pocket and slowly followed the man.

Micheal was his cousin, a son to his cold uncle, who hated Maxwell's father for being doted on in the family.

Micheal was nothing less than his father, he had an icy appearance and a lot of ego that makes him think he is above everyone else.

Maxwell couldn't help but wonder why Micheal would suddenly appear in the hospital. Something was probably wrong in the White's family.

Micheal climbed the stairs, and headed to a part of the hospital that was reserved for wealthy people that would love being private.

Slowly, Maxwell followed him, careful not to alert him.

Soon enough, Micheal stopped in front of a door and walked in.

Curiously, Maxwell tiptoed to the ward, and stuck his ear to the door.

"Father, why do you want to call that bastard back to the family? Hasn't he disgraced us enough?" A voice, which Maxwell recognized to belong to his Uncle Fred screeched through his ears.

"Exactly grandfather, I even heard he became a live-in son-in-law in a low family." Micheal added, stomping his feet on the ground which was accompanied by some inaudible words.

Arnold, who was the patron of the White's family as well as Maxwell's grandfather slowly rose from the bed, coughing, and breathing hard.

"I have wronged Maxwell, and I need to correct my mistakes before I die. Hasn't he proven us to be wrong? We banished him because he invested in gold, and now??? He is the CEO of Skye's corporations. Doesn't that tell you something?" Arnold coughed, reached for a bottle of water which he slowly gulped down.

Hearing his grandfather's voice, Maxwell felt his heart skip a beat. He peeped through the tiny hole on the door and saw his grandfather who used to be strong and energetic, but had suddenly turned frail and weak.

"I have made my decision. Bring Maxwell back, I am naming him as my heir." Arnold said with a voice reeling of finality.

Fred's expression darkened as he gritted his teeth in anger.

"But father…shouldn't you…"

"I said it already, I have made my decision and that's final. Find him so I can apologize and make him my heir. He has suffered all these years, that will be my means of compensation for him." Arnold said as he rested his head on the bed.

Fred stomped his feet angrily and headed towards the door.

Seeing Fred walking towards him, Maxwell hurriedly descended the stairs and ran back to the car.

Freya was already waiting for him, looking impatient and angered.

"Where have you been all these while? Didn't I tell you to wait for me?" Freya said in an angered but calm tone.

"I am sorry. How's Auntie Marie?" Maxwell asked her, trying to switch the topic.

"Let's go back to the company, I need to see grandma now." Freya mumbled. They both got into the car, Maxwell turned on the engine and drove off.

Freya seemed so restless throughout the journey and Maxwell could feel it.

He didn't bother her about it, since she didn't want to talk about it.

Arriving at the company, Freya rushed out of the car, while Maxwell stayed behind.

He was sure Mason and Nicholas would still be with Adele, and their presence irritated him.

Freya rushed through the stairs, and soon arrived at the board room. She pushed the door open, causing everyone to fling their eyes at her.

"Grandma, please save Auntie Marie, she is dying and needs an urgent heart transplant." Freya went on her knees as she pleaded with Adele.

Patricia and Avery stared at each other in bewilderment, wondering what Freya was talking about.

"What?" Adele asked in surprise.

"She needs a million dollars for the heart transplant, please help her grandma." Freya begged, her eyeballs became bloodshot red and clouded with tears that threatened to pour. She held on tightly to Adele's hand, gazing into her eyes with a hope that Adele would consider helping her.

"Are you out of your mind, Freya? You just lost a hundred million dollars, and you made our family lose face in front of the whole city, and you actually have the nerves to beg Grandma for a million dollars? Where is your conscience?" Patricia spat out angrily.

Avery also bounced up from his seat and pointed fingers at Freya.

"You seriously don't have shame. How could you come back and beg for money?" He yelled at her.

Adele and Mason glanced at each other, while Nicholas remained totally silent.

"Marie needs a heart transplant?" Adele asked, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion.

"Yes granny, please help her." Freya cried. The tears that she was struggling to hold had started streaming down her cheeks.

Mason cleared his throat as he opened his mouth to talk.

"I know that you have some special connection with her since she was there for you at your lowest. But you should understand that she is not a member of our family, and we have no responsibility taking care of her." Mason said,

"But she has no family, not even a child. Just lend me the money, I will surely return it." Freya pleaded.

Adele took a deep breath, stood up from her seat and walked towards Freya.

"It's fine if you want to help her, and I am glad you have a kind heart," Adele paused, staring at Freya as if she had something heavy to say.

"Just tell me granny, I will do anything to save her." Freya pleaded. Adele smiled and patted her on the head.

"Alright. Marry Nicholas, and I will give you the money."
