Taehyung scrunched his nose as he drank his coffee, he ordered a simple cup of hot chocolate but the waiter took his order wrong again as he was 'too' busy eyeing the man down. But Taehyung wasn't in the mood to call and tell him about his mistake because he knew that the waiter would write it wrong again purposefully just see him again. Taehyung often hated himself for his beauty. He sighed as he ran his fingers over the edges of the newspaper, smoothing out the crumpled page as he read the headlines.
Zenith Bank Massacre - Leadership Fails Again
Three Attacks in Two Months - Where is Security?
Elections Near - A Nation in Chaos
He sighed again as he read through the contents. More than 50 died over the last 2 months and nearly 300 are injured because of the sudden acts of terrorism and the current government is unable to reduce damage let alone catch the criminals. The government was drowning in blame, its officials scrambling for solutions they didn't have. The people were restless, demanding justice, but there was no enemy to fight, just destruction without a face and trace. Now fear is the ultimate companion of the citizens. Even the police get mugged. No one is safe.
Taehyung then shifted his attention to the small TV in front of him which broadcasted the rally of the second most powerful party in the country after the current government, known as UCP or United Citizen's Party ( I know the name sucks but that's all my brain could come up with). Their leader stood tall, voice unwavering as he addressed the desperate crowd. "The people deserve security and under our leadership, justice will return." The applause was deafening. Every face in the crowd was filled with belief.
Taehyung exhaled while leaning back in his chair. He could sense a great change coming. The result of the upcoming election was known to all. The current government had no chance to be elected again. The government had lost control, proving time and time again that they couldn't protect their own citizens. And if Taehyung were to choose, he would choose the UCP too. He had no reason to doubt them. Because their country was much better when they were under their leadership 4 years ago. And right now, they were the only ones offering a future worth believing in.
But belief wasn't enough.
Though as a field investigator for the National Investigation Authority better known as the NIA, Taehyung's job wasn't about taking sides, it was about following the evidence, finding the truth, and holding criminals accountable. The NIA was the only impartial investigative branch that worked without the orders of the government. They worked for their citizens. Not for power.
Their team consisted of six members. Their captain was Kang Hyunwoo. Their second-in-command was Kim Namjoon, their forensics expert was Seo Jinyoung, Jung Wheein handled cybersecurity and surveillance , Jeon Jungkook worked in weapon analysis and Taehyung himself was their tactical specialist.
But certainty wasn't getting them anywhere.
Three massacres in two months, no leads. No fingerprints, no direct suspects, just flawless execution and chaos.
So, their only possible suspect remained the underground syndicate. Better known as 'the Black Veil'.
Rumored to be the most dangerous criminal network beneath the country, it was an entity people feared but never truly understood. No one knew its leader's identity. No one had ever caught anyone of his team. The only thing they had about him was his name. It was a strange name though, because how many people you know go by the name 'Agust d' ?
The government had failed. So, if the syndicate was the only enemy they could chase, then they had no choice but to believe it. Because only they have the precision to operate like this.
And Taehyung, like everyone else was chasing the syndicate.
