Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Have You Ever Roasted Yourself?

There are many prophecies in A Song of Ice and Fire, and more than 90% of them have come true. One such prophecy was made by an old Dothraki woman to Daenerys: Her child is a horse that rides the world.

This "horse" does not mean that Daenerys will give birth to a horse.

The Dothraki people have a special connection with horses and worship them. They drink horse milk at birth, eat horse meat and drink kumis as adults, ride fierce horses in life, and kill the best horses to be buried with them in death.

To the Dothraki people, "horse" is a metaphor for strong.

Unfortunately, the prophecy was misunderstood. Daenerys did not give birth to a child; her children were dragons. Dragons are the ultimate symbol of power. Are they not the ones that ride the world? Daenerys, a viewer of the hit TV series Game of Thrones, naturally understands the old woman's prophecy better than Jorah and everyone else.

However, she couldn't tell anyone, nor did she dare. If she did, the dragon egg, which was originally inconspicuous, might be taken away, and she might lose her life.

Even a fool knows that dragons are far more dangerous than any powerful khal.

Mm-hmm, the prophecy is accurate. How can they not prevent black magic? The witches in Dosh Khaleen are too biased.

Drogo's death is a relief, but the timing of her travel is unfortunate. If Daenerys quickly erases the dark thoughts from her mind, she will never allow the child to be aborted again, let alone sacrificed to the devil.

Losing the baby may save Khaleesi's life, and the child isn't hers yet. She will keep this child.

Dany has made up her mind and rejected Jorah's plan to "elope" with her again. Leaving with him is a dead end; she probably won't even leave the grasslands.

After Ilichiqi brought hot water, red wine, and other items, Daenerys used the wine to clean Drogo's wound, but it was almost useless. Purple and black pus and blood kept flowing while she

wiped. After half an hour of tossing and turning, Dany had no choice but to soak silk in poppy milk, boil it, and tightly wrap it around Drogo's chest several times.

This wouldn't cure the disease, but it would numb the wound and relieve his pain.

She instructed Ilichiqi to clean Drogo's body with a cotton cloth and told Doreah to move a box.

It was a cedar box with bronze decorations, 30 cm wide and high, and one meter long.

"Doreah, put my bed here." Dany pointed to the bonfire in the center of the yurt.

The khal's yurt was very large, spanning 200 square meters. There was an open circle at the top center, and an iron plate "fireplace" was set up on the ground below. A blazing fire burned in it, bringing warmth to the cool night.

"Will it be too hot to get so close?" Doreah hesitated.

"I'm not afraid of the heat."

This was the truth.

As soon as she arrived, she discovered that the Targaryen family's "real dragon body" was genuine. At least Daenerys didn't feel the sun's scorching heat.

While Doreah made the bed, Daenerys opened the cedar box. Inside was soft velvet, and three huge "stone" eggs lay on it.

They were almost as big as bird eggs, but compared to single-colored bird eggs, the stone eggs that Daenerys stroked with her fingers were much more beautiful.

In her previous life, she was born into an ordinary family and had never seen fine jewelry, but she was certain that the Heart of the Ocean from Titanic and the sapphire from the Queen of England's crown were inferior to the three dragon eggs.

Illyrio, the governor of Pentos, had given her these three dragon eggs as a wedding gift. They were fossilized dragon eggs from the Shadow Lands, which had existed for tens of millions of years and had petrified into crystals. Did they look like they were made of fine ceramics, glaze, or glass? The colorful patterns on their surfaces are so exquisite that people think they are inlaid with jewels and diamonds.

The surface of the three dragon egg fossils is covered with tiny scales. As Dany fiddles with them, they emit a metallic luster in the sunset.

One is dark green with bronze spots and contains a green dragon; one is light milky white with golden stripes and contains a white dragon; and the last one is black like the ocean at midnight and contains vibrant dark red waves and whirlpools.

When Dany touches it, hot steam rises from the dragon egg, and the hot, burning sensation makes her almost moan with comfort.

"Doreah, come touch it. Is the dragon egg hot?" She retracts her palm and turns to the maid.

Doreah didn't understand and rubbed the three dragon eggs back and forth, wondering, "Is it cold, the same as before?"

Dany waved her hand, asking her to prepare dinner: the big, fat goose.

Dany ate a small portion of the four- or five-pound goose: a leg and half a breast.

The stewed goose meat with turnips and apples was surprisingly delicious. Dany dipped her black bread in the soup and ate nearly three pounds of food.

Hmm, this little girl has a really good physique. She's strong and durable. Could it be because of the blood of the real dragon?

"Doreah, give the rest of the goose meat to Ser Jorah. Irri and Jhiqui, help me wash my body." Dany burped tiredly.

Irri and Jhiqui were Dothraki who preferred roasted horse meat. Doreah had a small appetite and was full after half a bowl of soup.

Ser Jorah, on the other hand, was a foreigner like Dany and was not accustomed to the horse people's food.

After taking a bath and watching Irri feed a large bag of thick horse milk to the sleepy Drogo, Dany prepared for bed.

Only three people remained in the quiet, empty tent. Not far away, Drogo was stimulated by the black magic, his body twitching from time to time and occasionally emitting a small, rough groan. Dany slept on the side of the bed near the campfire, and Irri slept outside with her.

Three maids took turns sleeping with her every night to take care of her.

The Dothraki girl was very generous. Even though her own khal was about to die, she fell asleep after covering herself with a feather quilt.

Dany was naked and pressed three dragon eggs tightly against her skin as if absorbing their vitality and energy.

This was not an illusion. Dragon eggs could really heal wounds.

Daenerys was the princess of a fallen country. A few months before her birth, the usurper Robert Baratheon snatched away her father and brother's throne. Had a loyal old knight not taken her and her brother Viserys to Braavos, she would have probably met the same fate as her nephew, falling against the wall and breaking into a pool of red and white meat.

Before turning five, she enjoyed a few years of a comfortable life as a commoner under the old knight's care. After the old knight died of illness, her younger brother took her to travel around the nine federations.

From the age of five to thirteen, to avoid the assassins of the usurper, they traveled tens of thousands of miles — not an exaggeration.

The two silver-haired Targaryens appeared in the narrow streets and alleys of several city-states in the western continent of Essos.

Initially, the governors, lords, and business tycoons who ruled the free trade cities were happy to receive the Targaryen descendants. However, as Robert Baratheon's reign on the Iron Throne became more stable, the doors that were originally open to them closed one by one, and the siblings' lives became increasingly difficult.

Over the years, they pawned all their jewelry, including their mother's crown.

They soon spent the coins they obtained, and they became the laughingstock of those who knew them. In the taverns and alleys of Pentos, people nicknamed Viserys the "Beggar King." Daenerys was cowardly and timid; she didn't dare ask what others called her.

Daenerys was short on food and clothing and stunted since childhood. She grew like a bean sprout and had no breasts or buttocks. She was also in fear of Viserys's sleeping dragon's wrath for a long time. She also seemed submissive and hunched over like an old woman.

If it weren't for the most beautiful bloodline in "Ice and Fire," Drogo probably wouldn't have looked down on her. At first, Viserys was always worried that his sister wouldn't be sold.

Every Targaryen is handsome or beautiful, and they have the genetic inheritance of appearance.

She didn't get her first period until she was thirteen, and she had never ridden a horse before, so she rode long distances during the day.

In the beginning, the hard life of a nomad was almost unbearable for her. Daenerys even considered suicide.

One could argue that Daenerys is the most miserable person in the world of "Ice and Fire." Compared to her, the people of the Stark family are nothing.

A dead father, a dead mother, dead brothers, and losing the country (the North)—is that miserable? Dany experienced that a long time ago. Let's put aside national and family hatred. As for her personal experience, she has been poor since childhood. It wasn't easy for her to meet Drogo, who was good to her. Then, she lost her lover, supporter, and son in a few days.

Her future will continue to be miserable. The Starks still has a chance to turn things around, but Dany has been falling into a bottomless abyss and has never stopped.

Who could be more miserable than me?

Okay, I'm getting off topic.

Daenerys was physically and mentally injured that day. She was on the verge of death and almost committed suicide.

It was the dragon egg that changed her physical and mental state.

Through soul communication with the dragon in the egg while she slept, her injuries healed overnight. Her body and soul seemed cleansed and full of vitality, as if she were reborn.

This is a fantasy world with dragons and magic.

Daenerys's blood is different from that of ordinary people.

"Little baby, give mother strength. Dragon baby, give mother strength." Dany held the black dragon egg and whispered as if chanting a spell.

Actually, it was in English.

Other than the continuous rolling heat waves, there was no other abnormality in the dragon egg.

Dany placed the egg next to a feather pillow, turned sideways, and looked at the nearby flames with changing eyes.

"Since I've taken over someone's body, I have to do my best to protect their baby. I have to try to stay alive."

Gritting her teeth, Dany stretched her palm toward the jumping flames. In modern society, she often saw videos on YouTube that challenged the limits of barbecue, such as roasting popsicles and air. Today, she wanted to ask loudly, "Who among you has roasted yourself alive?"

Dani wanted to roast human flesh—well, her own flesh.
