Chapter 20 - Chapter 20 Shadows in the Heart of the Forest

The forest was suffocating. Not because of its density, but because of the silence. No wind, no distant chirps, no rustle of leaves — only the sound of Alex's boots sinking slightly into the damp soil. Grovyle moved ahead silently, his green figure blending perfectly with the foliage, while Riolu and Charcadet flanked him. Larvesta, still small, clung to Alex's shoulder like a warm ember in the shadows.

They had been walking for hours when Grovyle suddenly froze, one claw raised. Alex halted, following his partner's gaze. Through the canopy ahead, faint glimmers of metal shone between the trees — a structure where none should exist.

A base. And not just any base.

a base that was very sophisticated with some guards looking at the front with a red R painted on their uniforms, Team Rocket.

Alex's eyes narrowed. "What the hell are they doing in Sinnoh…?"

Moving low, they crept closer. The building wasn't massive, but it was well-fortified, dug into the earth with metal plating and guarded by watchtowers. He could see Rocket grunts patrolling, their Pokémon at the ready. Whatever was happening here wasn't small-scale smuggling — this was a command hub.

He hadn't come here looking for trouble. But curiosity had dragged him this far, and now it was clawing at him. If Team Rocket was in Sinnoh, there was a reason.

And Alex needed to know it.

The plan was quick and quiet — circle around to the base's blind side, use Grovyle's agility to silently take out a lone guard, and slip inside through the maintenance hatch. It worked like clockwork. Grovyle vanished into the shadows and reappeared moments later with the guard's Poké Ball belt in hand and the man unconscious behind a bush.

Inside, the base reeked of metal and disinfectant. The hallways were dim, lit by buzzing fluorescent lights. The hum of machinery echoed from deeper in the complex.

Alex moved with purpose, avoiding patrols and keeping his steps light. His eyes scanned every door, every sign, until he saw it — COMMAND CENTER – Authorized Personnel Only.

Perfect.

The door was locked, but Grovyle's claws made short work of the key panel. Inside, the air was colder, the walls lined with terminals and screens. Maps of multiple regions flashed on the displays — Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova. Markers dotted cities and routes.

He slipped into a chair and began typing, looking for anything that explained what Rocket was doing here. Most files were encrypted or restricted, but one folder caught his eye:

[PROJECT BLACK FANG – TOP CLEARANCE]

The system demanded a password. Alex gritted his teeth, thinking fast. He tried combinations — common Rocket mottos, names of leaders, dates of major attacks. On the fourth attempt, the screen blinked and the folder opened.

As Alex read, his blood ran cold.

The document laid out a master plan unlike anything he'd seen before. Rocket's reach extended far beyond Sinnoh — small, sleeper cells embedded in every major region, posing as minor gangs, traders, or even League staff.

Their goal? To manipulate each region into conflict with the others. Incidents staged at borders, sabotaged supply shipments, false flag attacks — all designed to make the fragile peace between regions shatter.

Once war broke out, each region would recall its Champions and strongest trainers for defense, leaving civilian areas and supply lines weak. That's when Rocket's infiltrators would strike from inside, dismantling what remained of the League infrastructure and seizing control before anyone realized the true threat.

Alex's hands clenched on the keyboard. If this plan worked, the world wouldn't just be divided — it would burn.

"Hey! Who the hell are you?!"

Alex's head snapped up. Two Rocket guards stood in the doorway, one with a Mightyena snarling at his side.

No time to think. Alex yanked the USB stick from the terminal, shoving it into his bag. "Grovyle, Leaf Blade!"

The forest ninja blurred forward, slashing the first guard's shoulder before he could even reach for a Poké Ball. The Mightyena lunged, but Riolu intercepted with a Force Palm, knocking it into the wall.

Charcadet's flames roared to life, casting shadows that danced across the room. "Charcadet, Flame Burst — cover the exit!"

The blast of fire struck a desk, sending sparks and smoke into the air. Alex darted through the haze, his team at his heels.

The alarms blared. Red lights flooded the hallways as Rocket grunts spilled out of rooms. Poké Balls opened, releasing Raticates, Golbats, and Koffings that swarmed the corridors.

Grovyle took point, slicing down obstacles with rapid Leaf Blades. Riolu was on the front using quick attacks, bullet punchs and force palm to clear the way, while Charcadet's Embers and flames kept attackers at bay. Larvesta, though small, fired bursts of String Shot to tangle the legs of anyone chasing too closely.

The maintenance hatch came into view. Alex dove through it, hitting the dirt and rolling before sprinting into the treeline. Bullets of light — Hyper Beams and Shadow Balls — streaked past him, hitting trees and sending bark flying.

By the time they stopped running, the base was a distant shadow in the forest.

Alex leaned against a tree, chest heaving, the USB still clutched in his fist.

He didn't know who in the League he could trust with this. The Champions? Maybe. But the wrong move could mean Rocket would know he'd stolen their secret.

One thing was certain — this wasn't just about Sinnoh anymore.Rocket's plan could throw the entire world into chaos.

And now Alex had the key to stopping it.

Or… to putting himself at the top of their hit list.
