Chapter 24 - Epilogue: Us, Always

After 3 yrs

The world was rushing.

People with briefcases bumped past each other, trains roared, city lights blinked even in daylight, and footsteps tapped quickly against the pavement.

Pearl was there, in the middle of it, clutching her coffee, her hair tied up in a messy bun, her phone buzzing with reminders she kept ignoring.

She didn't know why she paused in the middle of the walkway, but she did.

Because across the street, through the blur of moving people and neon reflections in puddles, she saw someone standing still.

Someone with dark hair falling into their eyes, a sketchbook tucked protectively under their arm, and that same quiet presence that once made the world feel like it was slowing down.

And as the people moved around them, neither moved.

The world was loud, hurried, but in that moment, their eyes found each other.

And they paused.

Sharon.

His name echoed in her mind, soft like a memory that had never left.

And then he smiled, that same soft, shy, crooked smile that made her heart remember everything.

Pearl took a step forward, her coffee forgotten, her phone buzzing in her pocket. The city kept moving, horns honking, voices blending into a dull hum, but her feet moved on their own.

He took a step too, weaving through the crowd, never looking away from her.

They stopped in front of each other, breaths soft in the cold air, the distance between them no longer endless.

"Star," he whispered, almost laughing, almost crying.

She blinked, her lips trembling before curving into a small, bright smile. "Sharon."

And that was enough.

Because in a world that never paused, they did.

Two similar eyes, meeting, recognizing, remembering.

And as the people continued to rush by, they stood there, still, together, letting the world move around them, their hearts whispering softly:

Us, always.
