Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 Prologue

Chapter 1 Prologue

  Prologue:

(Some background information before the story begins.)

Since the year 2A88, humanity began its insane involution.

But at that time, people weren't competing over basic necessities like food, clothing and shelter as they do now - they were at war with their own bodies!

With the spiraling decline of bioengineering costs and continuous technological improvements, humanity had largely achieved DNA freedom by 2A58.

Scientists deciphered the codes of 50 million human gene segments. Over 200 billion plant and animal genes were also decoded.

They could not only perform various ideal recombinations of their own genes, but even began creating new humans according to their own desires.

Gene freedom soon swept across the globe, affecting nearly every individual.

Everyone wanted to be smarter and more beautiful than others, willing to undergo complete physical transformations.

(But the worst off were novelists like me - truly unable to keep up with the competition, forced to install faucets in our heads and pour in content when stuck.)

So you're saying there are legal restrictions? But no one's hand can stop the mighty Yangtze from flowing endlessly!

This wave of transformation has also impacted professionals across all industries.

For instance, sprinters have actually incorporated the genetic advantages of thoroughbred horses into themselves.

Some bold individuals have borrowed certain genes from male tigers' reproductive organs.

Trendsetters who love being unconventional have transformed themselves into dog-headed humanoids, believing it looks cooler.

Some bizarre plants have also been created:

Trees that bloom all 360 days of the year have become commonplace, rice grains grow as large as apricots, and phoenix trees bear apples year-round.

Then one day, a sensational case shocked the world.

A man went out for dinner only to see his wife walking shoulder-to-shoulder with another man into a hotel—so he quietly followed them inside.

But he soon lost track. Just as he was angrily searching through the corridor, his wife suddenly emerged from one of the rooms.

He rushed forward and slapped his wife without hesitation.

The baffled wife, having been struck for no apparent reason, flew into a rage and began wrestling with him.

The fight spilled out onto the street, leaving the woman disheveled and the man bloodied with scratches all over his face.

In a fit of rage, the man twisted the woman's neck until it snapped.

At that moment, a passerby happened by and accused him of killing his own wife, then stepped forward and killed him.

Suddenly, another man emerged from the inn, only to find his wife—who had stepped out mere minutes ago—lying dead in the street. He collapsed onto her body, wailing in grief.

When the police arrived, they discovered the murdered woman was someone else's wife, entirely unrelated to the passerby.

The grieving man was struck dumb when he suddenly spotted his actual wife standing across the street.

It turned out that all three men's wives were genetically optimized beauties who looked almost identical.

Perfect genomes were frequently borrowed and plagiarized from one another, eventually leading to severe homogenization.

This sparked widespread public debate at the time, with people believing such trends would inevitably lead to major problems.

Therefore, to completely preserve humanity's original genetic diversity, the governing authorities decided to create seven sanctuaries across different regions of Earth to protect those with unaltered genetics.

However, statistics revealed there were only 967 people remaining worldwide with original, unmodified genetics.

All others were either people who had undergone "genetic freedom" procedures or their descendants.

Adhering to the principle of voluntary participation, only 824 individuals with original genetics ultimately entered the seven sanctuaries.

The First Sanctuary initially housed 108 residents, ranging from the eldest in their eighties to the youngest just seven months old.

According to the design, once these original humans entered the sanctuaries, they would be completely isolated from the outside world for 500 years - no physical or spatial connection, not even a single particle of dust could pass between the two realms.

The park can only be opened ahead of schedule following specific procedures when humanity faces a genetic emergency state.

This story begins from Paradise No. 1.

Paradise No. 1 is an extremely special place, established in 2B36, as a miniature city spanning 10 square kilometers. Its full name is "Primordial Human Paradise No. 1".

When Paradise No. 1 was first created, it contained various primitive temperate flora and fauna from Earth at that time, enclosed within a transparent domed sphere 800 meters high.

The park maintains pleasant climate conditions, with an omnipotent intelligent system keeping the internal environment in optimal state - automatically regulating temperature and humidity, with water being recycled.

Most astonishingly, all equipment in this paradise was designed with a lifespan of up to five hundred years and operates entirely automatically.

People living in the paradise hardly need to engage in any labor to obtain daily necessities.

Their food is even directly synthesized by workstations.

During the park's construction, concerns about potential depression due to its enclosed nature led to the integration of a substance called "joy essence" into the synthesized food.

This substance could induce mental euphoria while ensuring optimal bodily functions, resulting in theoretical lifespans for park residents ranging between 109 to 126 years.

In the park's early days, everything aligned perfectly with expectations.

But years later, women were found to have extreme difficulty conceiving. Those who did became exceptionally distressed—

as their fetuses would "dance joyfully" nonstop in the womb starting from four or five months.

Post-birth, the infants proved hyperactive, attempting by five months old to pluck stars from the sky as if catching fireflies.

Thus, First Paradise's population entered rapid decline.

By 2C36 when Yuqing was born, he stood as the sole male infant that year.

For five subsequent years, no children were born at all—

until twins Yaya and Dada arrived in the sixth year. No newborns followed thereafter.

Around year 2B58, the world attempted remedial measures to maintain moderate population growth among First Eden's residents.

But later, earth-shattering events occurred on Earth, and this matter was completely forgotten.

More terrifyingly, First Eden subsequently lost all contact with the outside world.

At its inception, the indigenous people of Eden and the new humans outside coexisted in a shared network ecosystem, maintaining normal communication.

But as the outside world's network formats evolved, file formats and transmission methods diverged so drastically that Eden's outdated terminals couldn't connect properly.

The last year Yu Qing's group received verified information from the outside world was 2C28.

They were informed that all new humans managing Eden thereafter would be Yuzi, told to self-determine, and that Yuzi would no longer intervene in Eden's affairs.

They demanded explanations and Eden's reopening, but received no response.

For the next decade, they remained completely cut off from the outside world.

Thus, they became the forsaken children of humanity.

By the year 2C56, only Yu Qing, Yaya, and San San remained in the entire First Paradise.

Yaya and San San, locked in a long-standing rivalry for favor, often indulged in binge eating.

As "happiness hormones" accumulated in their bodies from excessive food intake, each developed severe illnesses.

In 2C64, Yaya and San San both passed away from illness before reaching the age of twenty-three.

Left utterly alone, Yu Qing resolved to escape the First Paradise.

After repeated analysis, he discovered that the Sublimation Pavilion was the only viable loophole for escape.

The Sublimation Pavilion was essentially a facility for transporting corpses outside.

It processed the bodies—slicing, segmenting, or compressing them—before shipping them beyond the park for scientific research.

To ensure his safe escape, Yu Qing devised a ruthless plan.

He relentlessly drove nearly every available animal in the park to obstruct and deceive the Sublimation Pavilion.

Eventually, the facility collapsed under the strain.

Seizing the opportunity, he fled from there…
