Chapter 4 - That one Night Stand

"He's dead." Spoke one of the two surviving Vampires, both in the presence of the four leaders of the Dharman.

The leaders, obviously satisfied, acknowledged this progress with a rhythmic nod.

"And the Omega?" The first leader asked.

"We did all we could. Unfortunately, we had to leave his corpse behind." The second vampire responded

"Incompetent Fools!" Roared the third leader of the Dharman, causing the flames on the torches to erupt wildly.

"You had just one task and you failed. Of what good are you?" They continued, causing the vampires to tremble heavily.

The first finally mustered the courage to speak.

"We're sorry your Lordships, it took great efforts to take the Alpha down, and we had to report the mission's success."

" Report? The mission is nothing but a failure. The Alpha might be dead, but the Omega still exists. Now, he will be a direct heir to the Power." The leader continued in a fit of rage.

"Calm down, Lord D…" one of the leaders spoke but was cut short by the ranting leader.

"Don't you dare shut me up. What are we to do with the mere news of his death? His Power is still a threat."

The first leader got up, pulling the third leader down on their seat with a firm grip on their shoulder.

"Ranting won't fix anything." They said, casting a quick glance at the trembling Vampires.

"Your lives will be spared. However, find the Omega, and kill him." They instructed, leaving the platform.

Ben's eyes fluttered open to darkness. He sat up, his eyesight adjusting to the lighting of where he was. He tried moving his arms to rub his eyes, but his left hand was cuffed to the wall. He felt a slight burning mark and hissed, "Silver".

Being a regular Omega Wolf, this should have hurt more. He wondered why it wasn't. He looked ahead and saw what was a door, a cage door. Then he realised he was in a dungeon of sort.

Still recollecting the events that occurred the previous night, he began to panic as footsteps sounded from afar.

Reality was beginning to dawn on him. The Alpha of the Crimson Pack of New Orleans was dead, and he was there. A loafer, a loner. A perfect scapegoat for punishment.

"You're awake." A voice said from beyond.

Walking to his view was Lyla who was dressed in a black dress.

It had been days since her brother's death and the funeral had just been conducted. She opened the cell's door and walked inside, stopping right in front of Ben, who now had significant changes to his body.

Compared to what he once was, he had muscles replacing the hollow dents and scratches on his skin. His face, covered with a fuller beard looked more attractive than rough.

Even his pants didn't seem to fit him any more.

Ben's panicking increased. To him, this was punishment for being in an unfortunate situation, he didn't know her, and thoughts crossed his mind again.

"Could she be from the mob? Could she be related to the Alpha? Could she be law enforcement questioning him?" Were the questions pondering his mind.

To Lyla, this was a coward, a man who was present during her brother's final moments. A man, already confirmed by forensics and their Pack's shaman, was innocent in her brother's murder.

"You were there that night." She said.

He looked right at her, confirming her statement.

"Did you see who killed him?" She asked.

He sat still, his gaze now on the floor. "Three vampires, two escaped." He replied. Even he felt surprised by the confidence in his voice.

"And you just watched as he died, watched as he escaped." She said with a sneer.

"They killed him, what was I going to do against those?" He protested.

She was taken aback by his uproar. With a heavy sigh, she turned to leave.

"Maybe you deserve to die for watching him die." She said, attempting to leave the cell.

Angered, Ben felt a burst of rage explode in him, and without a second thought, he ripped the chain off the wall, now free. She turned, her eyes glowing red. Coincidentally, his glowing red eyes locked with hers, causing both parties to stop, lost in one another's gaze.

Lyla felt overcome by a feeling she never had before. A feeling far stronger than what she once felt for previous lovers. A strong feeling of lust that drove her primate instincts forward.

Ben, also surprised by this feeling inside him, awaited her as she took heavy strides towards him and they both embraced, sharing a deep, passionate kiss with growls sounding between them lowly.

Nolan Grit sat at a bar, a shot of tequila in his hand. He looked dejected and depressed, and peered into the drink. He immediately gulped it, and tapped his glass on the bar for another shot.

He still was in shock of Kyle's death. He watched the boy grow into a man. When he lost his son, he sought comfort in him. Now that he was gone, he realised he was a mere lone man who would die alone in the end.

Just as he was about to down the next shot, Tierney appeared, seizing it from him.

"Now old man, drowning yourself in alcohol isn't the best way to mourn our beloved friend." He said, taking a seat beside him.

"Now, the forensic results." He added.

The older man sat up and pulled an envelope of paper from underneath him on the stool. Tierney opened it and read it.

"He was stabbed, I get it, but we know Wolfsbane or silver bladed and bullets won't kill him. Got anything for me?" He stated, flipping the paper onto the bar.

Nolan coughed and his face had a serious look.

"Okay, remember my cousin with the feds who is based in Russia?" He asked, pulling out remnant debris of a broken blade from his pocket.

"Yeah, get to the fucking point." He impatiently responded.

"This bastard is one of the rarest minerals in the world, so rare that supernatural historians rarely mention it, oblivious of its existence." He spoke, dropping it on the table.

"I won't advice you touch it, you could get hurt." He added.

"What's this?" He asked, now keen on knowing the poisonous substance that killed his dearest friend, one that proved a threat to his own existence.

"Golden Plutonium, and don't laugh, it's not a fairy tale. It's real, it's rare, and deadly. Merely coming in contact with Kyle's blood, it melted already, and this was all they could save." He replied, withdrawing to his chair once again.

Tierney looked puzzled. The Alpha, the most powerful Alpha Wolf he had ever known had just been killed by an element, one that could probably kill him off upon contact.

This was more than just him. His faction, his city was in danger, and he didn't even know who had it.

"Commissioner." He spoke, rising from his seat.

"Get that thing away from here and trace it's source" He growled, dashing outside the bar at unimaginable speed.
