"Are you looking for Nagato?" Obito glanced at Kusuo, a hint of disdain in his eyes. "Why would you bother looking for a cripple like that?"
Although Kusuo had heard that Obito now had true control over the Akatsuki, he never expected him to be so blunt in his presence.
"His eyes and body have recovered," Kusuo stated coldly.
"What did you say?" Obito frowned, clearly not believing him.
"Nagato has begun to recover. It probably won't be long before he reaches the peak of his power."
"Impossible. Absolutely impossible. The Six Paths of Pain are all dead." Obito was well aware of how those six had died.
"Nagato has really recovered. We've already fought once. While his power isn't fully restored, it's only a matter of time." Kusuo looked off into the distance. It had been a long time since he had admitted an opponent was troublesome, but in his recent fight with Nagato, he had truly felt a sense of danger.
"What?" Seeing Kusuo's serious expression, a terrible premonition bloomed in Obito's heart. "If he recovers..." Obito instantly pictured his own grim fate. "You废物 (useless trash)! How could you let him get the Stone of Gelel?" Obito unleashed all his pent-up frustration, momentarily forgetting who he was talking to.
Kusuo grabbed Obito and lifted him up, the blade of his other hand pressed firmly against his throat. "You had better watch your words."
Only then did Obito realize he had gone too far. But Kusuo showed no signs of letting go.
"Don't worry, Hatake Kusuo. If Nagato recovers his power, he will definitely come for me," Obito said with a cold laugh, having given up struggling. In his current state, he wasn't strong enough to face Nagato alone.
"Where is Killer B?" Kusuo ignored him, his voice a cold demand.
Obito's expression immediately tensed. "Don't ask me, I don't know."
Kusuo sneered. "If you hadn't hidden Killer B, why would Gyuki come looking for you here every day? And it's clearly in a state of frenzy. When a Tailed Beast acts like this, it's usually because something has enraged it." Kusuo turned his head to look at Obito. "There's only one possibility. You killed Killer B."
Obito dropped his usual playful demeanor, his expression turning serious. "The Eight-Tails was summoned by someone else, that's how it was separated from Killer B's body. I just want its chakra." Obito turned his head away. He had expected Kusuo to help him like last time.
Instead, Kusuo threw him to the ground. "Ow..." Obito rubbed his backside.
"Who did it?"
The question made Obito tremble. "I... I don't know."
Seeing his stammering, Kusuo knew he was hiding something. "What really happened? You'd better tell me everything." Kusuo's sword was already slightly unsheathed.
"I really don't know who did it!" Obito could feel the killing intent radiating from Kusuo. If he truly angered this guy, his life might very well end here. "It might have been Konan."
At this point, Obito didn't dare to hide anything anymore and immediately told him everything he knew.
"Konan?" Kusuo frowned. Konan had always been passionate about her research. He didn't know what was up with her. Last time, she was fixated on the Four-Tails' chakra. This time, it was the Eight-Tails.
"C-can I go now?" Obito hadn't ruled out using Kamui to escape, but he was too afraid that Kusuo would stab him in the chest as he was leaving. Last time, Obito had intentionally held back. This time, there were no guarantees.
"Go."
"Leaving me here is really no... wait? Go?" Obito couldn't believe his ears, standing frozen on the spot.
"I said, get out of here now." Kusuo shot a cold glance at him. If it weren't for him, Hinata wouldn't have been hurt just now, and Nagato wouldn't have had the chance to recover. Kusuo would never believe that the two of them had nothing to do with this.
Warp... The space around Obito began to distort. He didn't want to spend another second in Kusuo's presence. At his word, he immediately activated Kamui to escape.

Growing even angrier, Kusuo drew his sword and thrust it fiercely into the spatial vortex. After the stab, the vortex vanished. Obito was gone.
"Argh, pfft." Elsewhere, Obito knelt on the ground, coughing up a mouthful of blood. He looked down and saw a large hole had been pierced through his chest. "Bastard. Hatake Kusuo. How dare you go back on your word." After saying this, Obito slammed his fist into the ground. Though furious, he only dared to vent his anger on the dirt.
"You look rather pathetic." Zetsu's body emerged from the side.
"Take me back," Obito snorted. With Zetsu's help, the two of them returned to the Akatsuki base.
Back with Kusuo, there was no longer any reason for him to stay. With a flicker, he returned to Hinata's side.
"How are you?" Hinata was sitting on the bed. The room was in a state of disarray after the battle, and the village's Jonin were gathered, quickly making repairs. "It's a good thing Nagato's power wasn't fully restored. Otherwise, one Shinra Tensei would have probably blown up the whole Leaf Village," Kusuo thought, feeling a sense of relief.
"Lord Kusuo." Kusuo turned his head. Four Jonin were assembled respectfully before him.
