Kael stood before the containment pod, its surface laced with frost and soft blue light. The translucent shell held a humanoid figure curled inside—too small to be grown, too structured to be natural.
The child floated in pale amniotic fluid, veins like silver threads coiling across skin too flawless to be real. Her hair fanned out in soft black strands, and her chest rose and fell with an artificial rhythm. Her eyes were closed.
Kael didn't move.
His Codex pulsed in response to her proximity.

He took a step back.
Behind him, Serrin whistled. "That's not just a clone. That's something else."
Kael clenched his jaw. "How long has it been here?"
Serrin worked his fingers across the encrypted console, sweat on his brow. The system fought back, red glyphs flaring and vanishing. But then:

Serrin scrolled fast, eyes darting. Then he froze. "Uh. Bro?"
Kael turned.
Serrin pointed at a log with a time stamp burned into the digital feed. "This says the genetic extraction occurred during your last battle... not after."
Kael's chest tightened. "You mean... while I was bleeding out?"
Serrin nodded. "Drone harvest protocol. Tagged your Echo strain mid-fight. Somebody ordered it."
Kael looked back at the pod. A faint tremor ran through his fingers. The image of Ravager's last stand flashed behind his eyes—the roar, the explosion of blood, the crushing grief.

A glimpse of scale. A scream. A bond snapping.
Gone.
His vision cleared. He was back in Saltspire's black chamber.
Footsteps echoed. Auren Drax entered, smug and controlled.
"She reacts to you," he said, eyes gleaming. "As expected."
Kael didn't turn. "Is she mine?"
Drax folded his hands. "In a way. She's not just born of your DNA, Kael. She's tuned to your decisions. She's legacy... and contingency."
"Why?"
"Because kings fall. But legacies endure. And the Codex—" Drax tapped his temple, "—it remembers every warlord, every survivor. You're its chosen anomaly. And she is its next evolution."
Kael stepped forward until he was inches from Drax. "If I find out you ordered that harvest—"
Drax smirked. "You'll burn me, I know. But for now, we both benefit. You have coin. You have status. You have Saltspire's interest."
Serrin cleared his throat, awkwardly pulling Kael back to the moment.
"Uh, by the way, those drives and bio-mods from the wasteland? I sold them. Quietly. You're officially a GMK-earner now."
Kael's Codex pinged.

Kael nodded. "Good."
Then he turned back to the pod.
A hiss echoed.
The pod cracked.
Serrin backed up. "Uh, is that supposed to happen?"
The fluid rippled. One eye opened within—violet, burning, aware.
Kael took a step forward.
The child stared directly at him.
