Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

Meanwhile.

Meghmala Girls High School.

Second period. Biology class.

In the Science 'A' section of Class Twelve, everyone is sitting stiffly.

Just then, slowly pushing open the door, Bivash Sir entered—the school's Biology teacher. Around forty years old, serious-faced, and very stern. No smiles, no fun, no eye contact with anyone. Clearing his throat, he walked toward the board.

He lifted the chalk and wrote—

"Chapter: Human Reproduction"

Below it, in big letters, he wrote—

"No Giggling. No Nonsense."

Then, looking coldly at everyone once, he said,

"If anyone feels uncomfortable studying this chapter, the door is open. But those who cannot treat this most important chapter of biology maturely have no right to write answers in the exam."

The girls remained silent. No one laughed. No one met his eyes.

In their minds, they thought—

"Why is Sir so harsh!"

There was always a certain cold severity in his eyes.

Measured speech, always a stern tone.

When he entered the class and looked around, it felt like a single mistake would bring a harsh judgment down on their heads.

No smile on his face, not even a trace of humor on his lips.

The girls thought, "How can such a serious person be a teacher?"

Some lowered their faces, some quietly looked out the window—only one question kept circling in their minds:

"Why is Sir so strict!"

Some thought to themselves, "Maybe he had a fight with his wife at home."

Others, as soon as Sir came in, thought, "Ugh! I don't feel like attending his class."

Some remembered Anirban Sir. He always smiled sweetly and taught the students with great kindness. On top of that, he was handsome—a young bachelor!

On the other hand, this Sir had a wife and kids. Not good-looking either. His face was as rough as his behavior!

Better if the madams took the classes instead of him.

Bivash Sir started explaining—in a clinical, textbook style.

"Human reproduction is a complex biological process involving gametogenesis, fertilization, implantation, embryonic development, and parturition. The male gamete is sperm, produced in the testes. The female gamete is the ovum, produced in the ovary. Fertilization occurs in the ampullary region of the fallopian tube."

His voice sounded like a machine, not human. The sentences cut sharply like knives and scissors.

The three toppers sitting on the front bench—Aishi, Snigdha, and Rini—listened with wide eyes. Their lips slightly parted, as if the words were entering their chest but not settling properly.

If the toppers were in this state, there was no need to mention the backbenchers.

The famous backbenchers of Class 12 'A' section were—

the school's beauty queen Basundhara, and her three followers—

Madhu, Deepa, and Tania.

Tania whispered into Basundhara's ear, "Boss, I'm not understanding anything he's teaching!"

Basundhara said, "I feel like my head is going bad today. How can such an interesting chapter be taught so harshly?"

Deepa said excitedly, "Eesh! I wish Anirban Sir taught our biology too!"

Bivash Sir continued explaining—

"During copulation, semen is ejaculated into the female reproductive tract. Sperms swim through the cervix, into the uterus, and reach the fallopian tube. Out of millions of sperms, only one fuses with the ovum to form a zygote. This is called syngamy."

Now, let's check on the largest group of students—the medium-level ones.

Suddenly, from the third bench, a whisper—

"Wow… so many steps just to make one thing?" — Anurima's voice.

"Only one sperm? So the rest just get lost?" — Titas, surprised.

"I don't know… I think it was necessary to understand all this, but listening to Sir feels like we're sitting in an operation theater!" — Joyshree smiled lightly.

Bivash Sir glanced sharply. The girls went quiet.

Then, in his dry voice again—

"The zygote develops into a blastocyst, implants into the uterus wall. The placenta forms. Embryonic development begins. After 9 months, through labor, childbirth happens. Hormones like oxytocin regulate the process."

Anurima whispered softly, nudging Titas's elbow—

— "Hey, oxytocin… isn't that the bonding hormone?"

Titas replied,

— "Yeah, it's also called the 'love hormone'! But hearing it from Sir, it sounds like a chemical weapon!"

Anurima said,

— "Still, you know… no matter how scared I get, I somehow want to know more from inside. This one chapter tells the body's story so cinematically!"

Titas said,

— "Honestly… but if you open the book, it seems so dry. Then when Sir explains it so sternly, the curiosity inside actually sparks!"

On the blackboard, Sir had now written—

"Important Hormones: GnRH, FSH, LH, Estrogen, Progesterone, Oxytocin, Relaxin"

Suddenly, Bivash Sir said—

"This chapter is no place for giggling, but there's a lot to be amazed by. If you don't understand your body through science, then when hormones suddenly surge, all you'll feel is fear. Understand?"

The girls' curiosity was now no longer hidden.

They realized this chapter was not dry at all. Rather, it held the whole world of understanding their own bodies.

The hour passed.

Before leaving the class, Sir went to a girl named Rodela and said,

"Alright, you said you didn't understand the last chapter. That one is very important. Many exam questions come from it. And you're a good student. If you score less than first in the exam, no one will be more disappointed than me."

He paused a little and then said,

"Come to my cabin during the tiffin break after class."

Basundhara and her group noticed this.

Tania said aloud,

"Boss, have you noticed that even though Sir is harsh with all the girls, he seems to pay a bit more attention to Rodela?"

Basundhara's other friend Deepa said,

"Yes, I've noticed that too. I think there's some kind of trouble going on."

Basundhara said,

"You're right. Something is definitely going on. Why else would Sir be so concerned about her?"

After a short pause, she added,

"I think Sir's wife isn't making him very happy. Sir's life needs a little fresh sunshine."

Saying this, Basundhara gave a sly, mischievous smile.

Sir then threw a glance without looking directly at the girls and left. But the light outside the window seemed to have darkened a bit. And inside the classroom, the girls were left with a flood of curiosity in their eyes, and despite the dry language, a moist surprise lingered in the air.

As soon as Bivash Sir left, Madhu said to Basundhara,

"Hey Basundhara, now it's Anirban Sir's class. Have you thought about doing anything?"

Basundhara looked at the classroom camera.

Then answered seriously,

"You can't do anything in class. There's a camera. If I do anything wrong, the madams will catch me and punish me however they want."

Basundhara's friends raised their eyebrows and asked, "Then? What will you do?"

Basundhara smiled slyly and said, "Wait for the class to end. I'll go to Sir's cabin."
