Chapter 5 - chapter 5

Jessica took out her phone and began yelling loudly into it "I'll be waiting for you at the gate, Mom. I'm almost sure I saw you."

There was no one on the other end of the line, but Jessica reasoned that if anyone was here, they'd notice her chatting on the phone and leave her alone.

Jessica felt a wave of relief as the gates appeared in front of her. She was only a few steps away from becoming free. Jessica quickened her speed, wanting to get home and put the nightmare of a night behind her. Whisky tendrils of white mist began to crawl through the railings as Jessica approached the route that led straight to the gate. The mist was semi-transparent at first, allowing Jessica to see the gates and the light from the street lamps through it, but as she took a few steps forward, the mist's nature altered. It thickened and densified until it flowed out between the railings, completely engulfing the gate and roadway in white.

As the mist consumed me, Jessica grumbled, "Oh, Fuck."

She could barely see past her nose at this point. Jessica was stuck in this situation and had no choice but to bumble her way out.

Jessica began to shuffle her way towards the cemetery gates. Everything was well until her toe brushed up against a tombstone's stone foundation. As she inhaled deeply, she felt a stinging ache in her foot.

Jessica exclaimed, "no, no, no, no!, mother ....!"

Jessica groped for the nearest headstone and rested against it while spinning around on one foot. Jessica, try not to break your toe. The metaphorical icing on this filthy cake would be a fractured foot.

Jessica lifted her head up, rubbing her toes. Jessica's stomach was in knots. A dark shape approached her, gradually piercing the fog with its solidity. All the hairs on the back of her neck began to stand on end as the temperature around her dropped sharply.

The enigmatic person was getting closer.

Please, God, she prays that this isn't some drunk trying to take a shortcut home...

Jessica fought to see through the white with her eyes.

"Are you OK, Madam?"

An elderly man's calm, pleasant voice came through the fog. Jessica couldn't tell who he was because she couldn't see him properly, but she assumed he was either the church's minister or the groundskeeper.

"Sir, please accept my greetings. I'm sorry for bothering you, but I can't seem to find my way out of here." "Ah," the man remarked as he approached. "These late-night fogs can be extremely perplexing. Take my arm in yours and I'll lead the way."

Jessica took his arm and hastily added, "Thank you.At the gate, my friend is waiting for me." Jessica couldn't rule out the idea that this man, too, was a creep.

Jessica couldn't help but notice how chilly and damp the man's arm was as they moved through the fog. His jacket sleeve felt as if he had been out in the rain for several hours.

"Are you the place's keeper?" Jessica was the one who inquired.

"Yes, in a way. For the past three centuries, I've been keeping an eye on this place."

"Three centuries, huh?" "Yes, despite the fact that I spend the most of my time sleeping in the ground."

Jessica laughed as she said, "Sleeping in the earth... well, I suppose I can find my way out from here."

"No, no, no, no, The ceremony is about to begin, and you are the honored guest."

Jessica released his arm and began backing away from the insane man.

"I'm sorry, but I have other plans. Perhaps we could do this at a later date." "No!" He screamed and grabbed her wrist. "You must accompany me."

Jessica answered, "I'm sorry, but I can't."

"It's too late now to return."

"OK, you're scaring me now, so I'm going." He sighed and said, "You can't. My dear, the curse is upon you. There's no getting away from it now."

Jessica looked down for the first time at his fingers, which were tightly wrapped around her wrist. "What's up with your arm, huh? The skin is a shade of gray."

"It's no longer alive."

Jessica believed he was joking, but as she examined his skin, she noticed something moving beneath it. Jessica stumbled backwards after letting out a gasp.

"What's the matter with you? What's the matter with your skin?"

When the mist parted, Jessica realized what was wrong with him for the first time. He was no longer human. Jessica stared at him in a state of bewilderment as it dawned on her that the urban legend was true. "I made a mistake- I had no idea, I assumed it was-" Jessica shook her head.

"Is he a legend? Is this a fairy tale?" He inquired. "Yes." Jessica expressed her fervent hope that he would understand her situation and let her go.

"Sorry, my child, but you've already acted out your vows by standing there in that attire, waiting for our Lordship." He responded glumly. "Are you the Dark Prince?"
