Chapter 1 - Prologue

"Where am I?"

Akagi, the aircraft carrier shipgirl from the renowned First Carrier Division, found herself in a dream, standing in an unfamiliar city painted crimson by the setting sun. The city was in ruins, as if ravaged by conflict. Signs were in English, with no trace of Japanese.

"(No one else is here…)"

No human presence, no stray dogs or cats nothing but desolation. Feeling anxious, Akagi was at a loss when—

BOOM!

A collapse echoed nearby.

"(What was that?)"

She ran toward the sound, hoping to find someone, anything to ease her loneliness. At the source, a silver-haired youth in a red coat, wielding a greatsword on his back, stood before a crumbled building.

"(Someone's here!)" Akagi started to call out, but—

"Hyahyahyahya!" A sinister laugh cut through as a reaper-like creature appeared, swinging its scythe at the youth. He dodged, countering with his greatsword and dual pistols. Akagi watched, stunned, as the surreal battle unfolded too real for a dream. The youth defeated the creature, which collapsed.

RUMBLE! CRASH!

A massive tower emerged, shaking the ground. Akagi fell, startled.

"What now!?"

As she glared at the tower, the youth approached her.

"Been a year since we last met. Time flies."

His words reached her in Japanese, confusing her. Before she could respond, the defeated creature rose and flew toward the tower. The youth holstered his guns and walked on.

"You'll treat me, right, Vergil?" he called.

"Wait!" Akagi shouted, chasing after him.

Yokosuka Naval Base, Shipgirl Dormitory

"…A dream?" Akagi woke.

"Are you okay? You were thrashing," Kaga, her fellow First Carrier Division shipgirl, asked.

"Sorry, Kaga. Just a strange dream."

"I was worried. A nightmare?"

"I'm fine, thank you."

Akagi recounted the dream to Kaga.

"It felt so real…"

"Dreams are just dreams. Reapers? Humans beating them? Never heard of such things," Kaga said.

"…Right."

Yokosuka Naval Base, Admiral's Office

At the same time, a sinister jester-like figure stood before the Admiral, the base's commander.

"Who are you!?" the Admiral demanded.

"Don't freak out, I might cry! Haha!" the figure mocked.

"What do you want?"

"Power, right? I'll give you demon power! Hyahahaha!"

The jester advanced, laughing. The Admiral's screams echoed through the night.

Devil May Cry World

Dante, a half-human, half-demon devil hunter, lived in this world. By day, he ran a handyman business; by night, he hunted demons.

"Just named the shop, and it's already wrecked," Dante grumbled.

Days earlier, he'd reunited with his twin brother, who embraced their demonic heritage and sought their father Sparda's power by unsealing the demon tower Temen-ni-gru. Dante fought to reclaim their mother's amulet, the key to the tower, and stop his brother's ambitions. They clashed three times, debating who truly inherited their father's legacy. Dante won, but his brother rejected his help, vanishing into the demon world.

Dante returned to the human world, but Temen-ni-gru's chaos destroyed his new office. Now, he ate pizza in a café, waiting for jobs.

"Lady's covering repairs, Enzo's handling contractors… Where's that jerk with my jobs?"

Jingle!

Enzo, a portly Italian broker, entered. "Dante! Got a job!"

"About time, Enzo."

"Don't complain! You reject half my jobs!"

"Pet-finding? Seriously?"

"You're in no position to be picky!"

"…Fine."

"Don't mess this up. And if you think I'm skimming your cut, I'm not!"

"Skim again, and I'll put lead in that beer gut."

Enzo explained the job. Dante left, tossing, "Pay for the pizza."

"What!? Me!?"

Cemetery

At the job site, Dante was surrounded by demons the Seven Hells, named after the seven sins.

"Time to clear out!"

Wielding his greatsword Rebellion, Dante fought, switching weapons: slicing with Rebellion, freezing with ice nunchucks, cutting with wind-and-flame swords, striking with lightning-charged guitar bats, and pummeling with light-infused gauntlets before riddling them with bullets. The demons fell quickly.

"Not bad. Demons in a cemetery? Nighttime's better, but it's barely noon. Time for a nap after the payout… Huh?"

A spatial distortion appeared a hole showing a seaside road where a human was attacked by a demon next to a black car. Trusting his instincts, Dante jumped in.

Kancolle World

"What's this monster!?" the Marshal, an elderly navy commander, shouted as his guards fought a demon.

"Protect the Marshal!"

"Run, sir!"

The demon Hell Vanguard, the reaper from Akagi's dream killed the guards effortlessly.

"Damn it!"

As it lunged, gunfire erupted.

BRATATATAT! SLASH!

Hell Vanguard was shot and sliced, vanishing. Dante landed.

"You okay, old man?"
