Everyone's eyes snapped to me as my phone vibrated. I fumbled to silence it, heart pounding against my ribs.

"Aren't you going to answer that?" Imogen asked, her eyes narrowing suspiciously.

"It's just a notification," I lied, shoving my phone deeper into my pocket. The vibration stopped at the same moment Mrs. Johnson's call went to voicemail.

"How strange," Mrs. Johnson frowned at her phone. "Let me try again."

"Mom, please," Imogen stepped forward quickly. "Look at your monitor. Your blood pressure is rising. This isn't worth risking your health."

I watched Imogen's perfectly calculated concern with disgust. She was good at this—manipulating situations, playing the devoted daughter while sabotaging me at every turn.

"Evelyn, she's right," my father said, moving to her bedside. "Let's not upset you further. We can deal with Juliana's... situation... without bothering you."

Mrs. Johnson hesitated, her hand still clutching her phone. "But if we could just clear this up—"
