Chapter 324 - Chapter 324: Everyone is Fragmented, So Don't Point Fingers

Chapter 324: Everyone is Fragmented, So Don't Point Fingers

"It seems that regarding the enemy known as Chaos, our goals are aligned."

Romulus read through the contents and ultimately chose to approve the old Farseer's proposal.

They did indeed need support in the field of warp studies.

Outside the battleship, the energy sparks from the Cadian planetary void shields occasionally illuminated the outer deck of the Dawnlight.

The Chaos invasion during this period had spread like a plague, affecting several sectors. As a heavily hit area, on Cadia, you never knew which bump in the ground would spew forth a daemon army.

Aside from occasionally crushing some overconfident xenos trying to loot a burning house, the four of them had also dealt with various daemons.

After all, Chaos had gotten smarter. Those cunning Greater Daemons, especially those of Slaanesh, under pressure from the Primarchs, had fully absorbed the techniques of the Commorragh Haemonculi and applied them to their invasion of realspace.

Now, when they entered the material universe, they learned to do so in segments; a single killing could not completely destroy them.

Even more annoying was that the unique and precious Greater Daemons had been ordered by their masters not to leave the warp.

Ramesses had been trying to lure Kairos Fateweaver out again, but the two-headed bird, once keen on spying on their movements, had vanished as if it never existed.

In the brief confrontations, they had gradually forced Chaos to evolve; splitting their souls to reduce the risk of entering realspace was just one adaptation.

Romulus's gaze returned to the proposal, his knuckles unconsciously rapping on the desk.

Among the known Eldar Craftworlds, there was likely no branch with a richer reserve of warp knowledge than Ulthwé. He noticed that the old Farseer had deliberately omitted certain details in the clauses.

Obviously, as the Dawnbreakers and Chaos began to compete, the increasingly urgent situation left these Eldar with no choice.

According to intelligence, the situation of Craftworld Ulthwé was indeed not optimistic. As a Craftworld bordering the Cadian Sector, they had long endured high-intensity war harassment. Now, under the increasing pressure of Chaos, their resource supply lines and vital Spirit Stone resources were in jeopardy.

Romulus looked at the remaining proposals.

Ulthwé could provide some Webway gates located in the Dawnbreakers' occupation zone to facilitate transport, but the Imperium would be responsible for clearing and securing the routes; the Eldar would simply open the doors.

The toll was nothing else but Spirit Stones. In the future, if Ulthran persuaded more of his kin, deeper cooperation could be unfolded.

For example, visiting the Formless Lord's warp theme park or something.

It was evident that Craftworld Ulthwé was trying to forge a deeper binding relationship with them, even willing to share Webway usage rights with the Imperium for their sake.

And the old Farseer was being clever.

Whether to convince the Seer Council or to show their regard for Romulus and the others, the object of these agreements was always the Dawnbreakers formed by the four of them, not the so-called Imperium.

Romulus looked up at Ulthran, then at the Solitaire beside him.

No wonder he had to call in the Laughing God; without Cegorach here, his life might not be guaranteed.

Of course, Romulus believed that even if they had the ability to capture Ulthran, it wouldn't be of much use.

At the level of the old Farseer, even dying at the hands of Slaanesh wasn't really a threat. For these figures who had transcended base desires and shouldered the survival of their entire race, death by Slaanesh was nothing.

"Can Ulthwé provide Webway routes to other Segmentums?"

Romulus asked.

Compared to the mess that was the Veiled Region, he cared more about the development of the Dawnstar Sector.

"No."

Ulthran shook his head gently, a subtle glint of appreciation in his eyes—

That's it. That greedy ambition of 'I want it all.'

He spread his hands, his tone helpless yet frank:

"If we possessed Webway routes to other Segmentums, why would Craftworld Ulthwé waste ten thousand years in the Veiled Region?"

It was well known that Craftworlds traveled very slowly; they could even be caught by Hive Fleets in the void. Twenty years ago, the Tyranid invasion of Ultramar had directly resulted in the destruction of three minor Craftworlds.

But no matter how slow, the Craftworld Eldar hadn't lost the technology to traverse the Webway. With its aid, drifting for ten thousand years should have brought them to other Segmentums, not kept them wandering near the Eye of Terror forever.

The reason was simple.

Craftworld Ulthwé did not possess large-scale Webway routes leading to other Segmentums, so naturally, they could only hold their noses and get beaten up near the Eye of Terror.

And although the various Eldar Craftworlds had some contact, their relationships weren't good enough to share routes that were a matter of life and death for each other.

Why is everyone so fragmented?

Romulus frowned slightly. This thought reminded him of Trazyn's explanation when he returned to the Dynastic Council to request technical support.

It was common knowledge that thousands of Blackstone pylons stood on the surface of Cadia, ancient Necron constructs that contained the expansion of the Eye of Terror.

But even so, Cadia still endured the endless encroachment of Chaos. The enemies on the surface could never be fully eradicated; according to the local Ordo Malleus Inquisitor, lifting a sewer lid at random would reveal a nest of Nurglings conducting a ritual.

Therefore, shortly after the war broke out, Romulus had asked Trazyn to activate Cadia's Blackstone pylons, as in the original history, to further weaken Chaos's corruption of the surface.

However, facing the patron's request, Trazyn mentioned he had to go back and trade for technology.

The Nihilakh Dynasty possessed the most wealth among the Necrons, but they did not master all technologies.

A famous example was the World Engine. With the Nihilakh Dynasty's wealth, they naturally possessed such an artificial C'tan, but for the Dynasty to maintain the World Engine, they actually needed to find Crypteks from a dozen other Dynasties to participate in different stages of repair work.

When the Silent King's 'Command Protocols' governing all Dynasties existed, there were no problems. But with the disappearance of the Command Protocols, these Dynasties shattered like the member states of a certain "indestructible union."

In short, do not treat the current Necrons as a unified whole.

Trazyn's example was vivid, and Romulus understood immediately.

And now the Eldar were the same.

Leaving aside the split into four factions, were all the individual Craftworlds basically orphans?

Romulus's gaze turned to the Solitaire on the other side, his crimson pupils scrutinizing.

Ulthran might not have it, but surely the Laughing God wouldn't be lacking?

Didn't they say the Black Library stored all knowledge in the galaxy?
