Chapter 294 - Chapter 294: The Grey Knights Have Arrived

Chapter 294: The Grey Knights Have Arrived

Segmentum Obscurus, Armageddon, Mandeville Point, Strike Cruiser Relentless.

"Haaa—"

The moment the Relentless transitioned from the void, Brother-Captain Hyperion of the Grey Knights' 3rd Brotherhood, the 'Warders of the Ordos,' awoke from his meditation, a look of pain on his face.

His companion, Kaldor Draigo, who had been with him since leaving Terra, immediately grew tense. "What is it?" Draigo hefted his Nemesis Daemon Hammer, its surface crackling with lightning, and stared intently at his comrade.

Hyperion was gripping the silver-inlaid armrests of his chair. His armour, which he never removed, awakened from its meditative state and imbued his grip with new strength, letting out a heavy groan. He groaned stiffly, and large areas of burns appeared on his face.

This made Draigo even more nervous. He recalled the advice their Brotherhood's Apothecary had given them before they had left. They were psychic burns, an ailment that most Grey Knights would contract in the course of fighting daemons. Whenever a Grey Knight delved too deep into the warp for too long, they would often flare up again. This was particularly severe in Hyperion's case.

He had once faced Angron on Armageddon. Three-quarters of his body had suffered severe damage. It was even difficult for him to remove his armour.

"Sister, we need your help," Draigo said, looking at his pained comrade and immediately opening the comms.

Thirteen seconds after he had spoken, the cabin door slid open. A Sister of Silence, accompanied by a Custodian, arrived.

'Are you playing with those evil sorceries again?' the Sister of Silence did not rush forward, but began to sign to Draigo.

Draigo looked at the Custodian beside him in confusion. "She is asking if you are conducting critical research in the psychic domain, and if, for safety reasons, it can be violently interrupted," the Custodian Shield-Captain, Marcus Achallor, said after analyzing the Sister of Silence's hand signals.

The Sister of Silence turned and glared at the Shield-Captain.

"Of course you can. We were just conducting a routine meditation," Draigo replied, and then saluted the Sister of Silence.

Seeing this, she immediately returned the sign of the Aquila and then strode forward. As the Sister of Silence approached, the suffocating feeling that made psykers instinctively feel disgusted also came. Draigo endured the discomfort and watched his comrade's state with concern.

The pained expression on Hyperion's face, which had rendered him unable to speak, quickly relaxed. The burns began to fade from his face. This made Draigo let out a sigh of relief. He once again saluted the Sister of Silence with gratitude. The Sister of Silence waved her hand nonchalantly and continued to stand there.

"Can you tell me what happened, Brother Draigo?" the Shield-Captain asked, stepping forward with a gentle tone, seeing the anomaly had entered a controllable phase.

"It is as you see. Hyperion's psychic burns have flared up for an unknown reason. We will need to investigate the specific cause. A relevant report will be provided to the Adeptus Custodes later," Draigo replied with a flat report.

The Shield-Captain nodded in acknowledgment, then looked at Hyperion, waiting for him to recover. Everyone looked as if they were used to it.

Custodian, Grey Knight, Sister of Silence. Such a combination, in the eyes of anyone in the know, would be considered terrifying. But for the current state of the galaxy, such a configuration was just the norm. It all started with Lord Ramesses's jokes and the questioning of the Emperor's Mercy, Navradaran.

The escalating Chaos incidents had enraged the Custodes and had left the Grey Knights overwhelmed. The heretics and daemons around Terra seemed to be endless. Even the Custodes had suffered considerable casualties in the process of expelling the daemons. Out of necessity, the Custodes had to recall the Sisters of Silence, who had disbanded again after the War of the Beast, and had formed a joint force with the Grey Knights. In this process, the secrets between them were constantly being revealed over time.

"Cough~ Cough cough!" With the silver armrest cracking, Hyperion coughed up a large amount of blood and finally recovered from his pained state.

"Hyperion, what happened in your meditation? Why did the psychic burns erupt?" Draigo immediately stepped forward and questioned, his gaze lingering on the刺目的 bright red blood.

"It wasn't a psychic burn," Hyperion replied weakly, wiping the blood from the corner of his mouth. He had learned to ignore the pain of the burns. But it was just pain. As a Grey Knight, his body was covered in countless other wounds, all over and varied. But none of these pains could compare with the one in his leg.

He rubbed his aching thigh through the thick ceramite plate and said, "It was the shard of the hero Hyperion."

The hero Hyperion, the previous Grand Master of the Third Brotherhood, and also the one known as the "Bladebreaker" by the Wolves. It was he who had shattered the Daemon Primarch Angron's sword into a thousand pieces on Armageddon. And Hyperion, who also belonged to the Third Brotherhood, was one of the thirteen survivors of that battle to banish the Primarch.

But unfortunately, after the battle, a shard of Angron's blade, a piece of Chaos-tainted bronze, had been embedded in his thigh during the fight. Sometimes it just made the limb hot. Sometimes it was a painful numbness. This pain would usually last for several days, forcing him to be angry because of the pain. Sometimes it would interfere with his thoughts, making him不由得 ignite a resentful anger at the injustice between the trial and the honor that the universe had assigned him.

His gaze lingered for a moment on the tall, golden Custodian. He used his reason to dispel the negative emotion of wanting to tear him apart with his psychic powers. Hyperion continued to focus on the surging anger that had just poured into his brain.

He had thought of removing this cursed shard. Whenever he took off his armour and touched his thigh, he could feel this shard shift slightly with the force of his fingers, constantly stabbing his body tissues. But whenever he tried to remove it, it became erratic and invisible. He had once considered amputating his entire leg to try and get rid of Angron's influence on him, but he had ultimately given up.

This was by no means a cowardly retreat. Nor was it a卑屈 surrender. It tore at his flesh, but it also forged a shackle. A crimson chain that could not be broken between him and the Butcher Primarch, Angron. This allowed him to sense the changes in the Daemon Primarch.

"Yes, I saw it," Hyperion replied to Draigo's 'as I suspected' expression. "I saw the Daemon Primarch's anger. It was an unwilling anger that erupted from a lack of choice. The Blood God will have a new move in the material universe."

"So, the Primarch's guess was right?" Draigo looked at a small booklet on the table. Ramesses's promoted psychic manual.

Although the Grey Knights, due to a shortage of manpower, had not had the opportunity to visit the Primarchs, this Primarch had still asked the Exorcists Chapter, who had established contact with the Grey Knights, to deliver his psychic research results. If not for the support of this knowledge, which the Grey Knights had never mastered, they would have probably suffered even more severe casualties in the process of dealing with daemonic incidents.

This had led to a rise of respect and admiration for Ramesses within the Grey Knights. Unlike the Custodes and the Sisters of Silence, who were almost completely cut off from the warp, in the perception of the Grey Knights, they could often see the communication between the formless soul and the golden sun.

"Yes. The Primarch was right," Hyperion said, stiffly turning his head to one side and forcing his eyes open to stare at the window. The cold light of Armageddon's moon, Tisra, shot in through the hardened glass, casting a crimson halo on his bedside.

The Primarch had been waiting there all along. A feeling of worship and reverence appeared on his face.

"Then what are you waiting for," Draigo immediately got up, preparing to change into a new suit of armour. His face was filled with excitement.
