Things changed between Ruto and Juta after that night. With none of them saying it, they'd both reached an unspoken truce.
Juta didn't realize it initially, but he slowly became accustomed to their new routine. In the mornings, Ruto performed his obligation to the kingdom, and Juta would remain in the chamber and wait for him.
After that day with the servants, Ruto no longer chained him. He'd told Juta that was willing to trust him.
Juta had been surprised by Ruto's sincerity, as though the half breed was showing him that that he wouldn't necessarily torture him if he behaved.
The truce between them lasted for days, which slowly graduated into weeks.
Juta hadn't felt the need to do anything unusual either. He knew attempting an escape would be impossible. Why bother escaping when he had nothing outside? That village he'd formed and ruled over had been completely destroyed. But here, at least one foolish half-breed seemed to care about him.
