Leera sits before her ornate mirror, carefully applying rouge to her cheeks with delicate strokes. Her reflection shows a woman trying desperately to recapture her former beauty, despite the exhaustion and stress that mark her features. She dabs perfume behind her ears and adjusts her gown to better display her swollen belly.
The sound of approaching footsteps makes her heart leap with hope. When she sees Amendiel's tall figure in the doorway, her face lights up with genuine joy.
"Amendiel!" She rises from her chair, her hands smoothing over her dress as she rushes toward him. "I didn't expect to see you today. You look—"
But her words die in her throat as she takes in his expression. The murderous look in his golden eyes makes her blood turn to ice. Her rushing steps falter, then stop completely when she notices the guards flanking him - especially the one she recognizes from earlier, the same guard who had been stationed outside Faelyn's chambers.
