Chapter 4 - Chapter 04: New Beginning

"Hey, welcome to Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School. You'll be studying here once you're a little older."

Gojo Satoru's voice was as breezy as the wind rustling the trees around them. Shingen Genichi stood beside him, wide-eyed, taking in the strange and sacred atmosphere of the grounds. The path ahead was lined with ancient stone lanterns, flanked by evenly spaced trees that led toward a cluster of traditional buildings nestled deep within the mountains — eaves curved elegantly like the wings of cranes, corners arched like the pages of a book folding open.

Shingen followed Gojo, his shoes tapping against the stone walkway. "This place is wrapped in a barrier," Gojo explained casually. "Normal people can't see it, and Curse Users won't just wander in. You're safe here. Stay put for a bit — I've got business to handle."

They walked through a few quiet courtyards before arriving at a tall man who stood like a wall — broad-chested, arms crossed, trimmed beard on his chin, short-cropped hair stiff with discipline, and sharp eyes full of presence.

"Satoru, what's this? You kidnapping kids now?" the man asked, raising a brow.

"No,no,no...nothing like that. Just saving them from being eaten alive," Gojo replied with a smirk. "This is Shingen Genichi. Special kid. I'll explain later. For now, he's yours. I'll be back."

Before Shingen could protest, Gojo had vanished again, leaving him alone with the towering stranger.

For a moment, neither of them said a word. Shingen stared upward. The man's serious face didn't budge. This guy was supposed to be friendly?

"Ahem…" The man cleared his throat, realizing the awkward silence wasn't going to end itself. "I'm Yaga Masamichi. You like toys?"

Shingen blinked. That... wasn't what he expected.

"I've got a whole room full of moving ones," Yaga continued, gesturing with his head toward a nearby door. "They're not your ordinary dolls either."

At the mention of moving toys, Shingen's interest stirred. He recalled something from his knowledge of this world: Cursed Corpses — puppets infused with Cursed Energy, capable of independent movement. He remembered Panda, one of Yaga's most famous creations.

Curious, Shingen nodded.

Yaga led him into a workshop filled with shelves of animal-like dolls and mechanical-looking tools. The room smelled of wood shavings and old cloth, with metal clamps and enchantment paper littering every table.

"This one's simple," Yaga said, handing him a white, fluffy sphere roughly the size of a small basketball. It had cartoon eyes and a mouth, but no limbs. "Just pour your Cursed Energy into it. Think about making it move. Then smash it on the floor."

Shingen cradled it in his hands, curious. The texture was soft, bouncy — almost plush-like. He focused, channeling energy into it. Instantly, the round toy started shaking violently. The eyes blinked to life, and it trembled so much that Shingen had to throw it down to keep from dropping it.

The moment it hit the floor, the fluffy ball exploded into motion.

It bounced wildly, ricocheting off the floor, ceiling, walls — so fast it blurred. It zipped around like a supercharged pinball.

Yaga's eyes widened. "Huh."

That wasn't supposed to happen. It had been a prototype with low power — a cute gag toy he'd made during an idle afternoon. But now it was cracking the walls and leaving tiny dents in the ceiling. What kind of cursed energy output was this kid working with?

Just as Yaga stepped forward to intervene, Shingen reached out calmly — and caught the toy mid-bounce with both hands, stopping it cold.

Yaga blinked.

Gojo hadn't lied — this kid really was something else.

Shingen laughed, hugging the ball to his chest. The glee on his face was pure. Whatever age his mind might secretly be, his body was still that of a child. And playing with this overpowered bouncy ball clearly hit a sweet spot.

Yaga, watching his new guest gleefully throwing and catching the toy over and over again, eventually gave in and fetched a few more harmless Cursed Corpses from his collection. If nothing else, it would keep the boy entertained.

By the time Gojo returned, the scene that greeted him was almost comical: Yaga, sitting cross-legged on the floor with an amused expression, and Shingen Genichi chasing a husky-shaped Cursed Corpse that darted clumsily after the bouncing white toy.

The fluffy ball launched across the room. The husky gave a happy bark, charged after it, missed completely, crashed into a cabinet, bounced up like nothing had happened, and chased after the ball again.

"What in the world…" Gojo scratched his head.

Yaga stood, stretching. "He seemed bored, so I gave him a few toys. This one's Shirone — not a success, but lovable."

"Shirone?" Gojo raised an eyebrow.

"The husky. Bit clumsy, but he's got potential," Yaga replied. "And this kid… you weren't exaggerating. Where'd you find him?"

"Oh, you know — just your everyday cursed domain rescue," Gojo said, grin widening as he explained Shingen's backstory.

Yaga's face grew serious. "That's… unfortunate. And you're just going to leave him on his own?"

"Well, I figured I'd find him a place to stay. Maybe a nanny. Or maybe not." Gojo rubbed his chin. "Wait — what about with Megumi and the others?"

Yaga gave him a look. "He's seven or eight. Don't be irresponsible. Didn't you adopt Megumi? Didn't that teach you anything?"

Gojo looked like he had just unlocked a cheat code. "Right! I'll just raise them together. Megumi, Tsumiki, Genichi — what a power trio!"

Yaga sighed and waved to Shingen. "Come here."

Shingen came over, still holding the fluffy ball in one hand and petting Shirone with the other. Gojo smiled and crouched beside him. "I've taken care of everything with the orphanage. Got you a home nearby — you'll love it."

"Thank you," Shingen replied quietly.

He tried to return the ball and Shirone, but Yaga shook his head. "Keep them. The ball's just a toy, but Shirone has some low-level combat instincts. Might be useful someday."

Shingen looked down at Shirone, who wagged his tail happily, and smiled. He hadn't expected the gruff Yaga to be so kind.

Gojo gave no warning as he scooped him up again. "Alright, let's go!"

Shingen barely had time to gather Shirone and the fluffy ball before the world blurred — and they were gone.

The scenery snapped back into focus: a quiet residential street with a modern detached house at the edge. Gojo handed Shingen a key. "This is your place. We'll get you a nanny soon if you want one. But first — let's meet your future roommates."

They headed next door. Gojo knocked rhythmically on the door, calling out in an exaggerated tone, "Megumi!Tsumiki!Open up! Your favorite person in the world is here!"

The door opened to reveal a girl with kind eyes and a warm, polite smile. "Good afternoon, Gojo-san."

"Where's Megumi?" Gojo asked, peeking behind her. "I brought someone for him to meet."

"In his room," she replied softly.

Gojo walked right in like he owned the place. Before he could open Megumi's door, it opened from the inside — and there he was.

Megumi Fushiguro, still a child, hair spiked into its signature sea urchin mess, stood with arms folded and a tired look on his face.

"Do you ever knock?" he asked flatly.

"I knocked," Gojo grinned. "Just not on your door."

Megumi let out a sigh. "Never mind…"

Gojo reached out and flattened the boy's hair, only for it to spring back up stubbornly. Then, in his typical flair, he spun toward Shingen and gestured like he was presenting a prize.

"Ta-da! Shingen Genichi. Like you, he's awakened a Technique. Say hello to your future classmate!"

Shingen studied Megumi — younger than he expected, but his sharp expression was unmistakable. That stiff, awkward coolness. That weird hair. He looked like someone Shingen could either be friends with — or feel an overwhelming urge to mess with.

Megumi, meanwhile, gave him a long look before muttering, "I don't want to be a Jujutsu Sorcerer…"

Gojo ignored it entirely. "Well, too bad! You've got the power, and now you've got a buddy. Oh — and school starts soon, so unless fate intervenes, you two are going to elementary together."

He turned to leave, hands already in his pockets. "I'll leave you three to bond. Don't fight. Or at least don't break anything. Bye!"

And just like that, Gojo vanished — leaving Shingen Genichi, Megumi Fushiguro, and Tsumiki Fushiguro standing in the quiet house together, with Shirone the husky wagging his tail between them.
