COLTON'S POV
As expected, one of the guards finally walks in and slams the door behind him. I'm thankful for the fact that only one guard comes in. I continue screaming in fake pain as he looks from me to Naomi skeptically. He might suspect that I am up to no good so I have to make this look as real as possible.
"What the hell is going on in here!?" The guard demands, pointing his gun at me with no restraint. I notice what he is wearing as I lie on the floor. He has the keys to the cells strapped around his waist.
"Please, you have to help him" Naomi cries. Her actions must be fake but the tears falling from her eyes are quite real. She's scared and she doesn't want anything to go wrong with my plan. Her fear will be what make this guard believe our act.
"He just suddenly fell and started screaming. I don't know what happened but he looks hurt." She says as the guard starts lowering his gun slowly. He's falling for it. He's falling for it and I'm going to kill him.
"Come closer." The guard orders me in an authoritative voice. "Come to the edge of the cell." He shouts but ignore him as I keep thrashing around in pain and then he scoffs and turns around heading towards the door. No. I need him to take the bait. I need him to want to open my cell. If I scream any louder, he'll suspect that something is wrong so I do something risky. I stop screaming and pretend to pass out.
"Are you just going to leave him like this?" Naomi screams and then she gasps as she stares at my body on the floor. "Oh my God, he's not moving anymore. He's not even breathing. HELP HIM!" She starts crying and the guard swears under his breath and after a few seconds of contemplating, he swears again and grabs the keys from his waist. I feel them dangle around as he struggles to open up my cell hastily.
"You're lucky Veronica said we can't kill you." He says as he swings the door to my cell open and stoops down, trying to turn my body around and find out what's wrong with me. Bingo.
I smirk and in a swift motion, I twist my body around and wrap my legs around his body as my hands wrap around his neck. He tries to reach for his gun but I hit him hard in the head and then cover his mouth up with my hands so that he doesn't make any noise. I focus all of strength on his neck as he tries to reach for his gun and before he can get to it, I snap his neck like a twig and he dies in a second in my arms.
Naomi watches the entire thing with wide eyes as she breathes heavily and trembles. I don't think she has ever seen anyone die in front of her before. I don't think she has ever seen anyone get killed in front of her before and I know it's hard but she'll just have to take it like a champ because we have no choice.
"We need to move fast." I say as I grab the cage keys and unlock Naomi and then I go back to my cage and take off the guard's clothes and replace them with mine and then I toss him to the side. After which I put on his clothes, covering my hair and my face with the mask that he was conveniently wearing.
"What now?" Naomi asks. "What do we do now?" She looks around with a panicked look on her face as she shivers in fear. But even as she trembles, she keeps her head held high and follows me around, waiting for me to tell her what to do.
"Now. We need to get the hell out of here before someone finds us out. I'm going to pretend to be a guard and act like Veronica asked me to move you somewhere else." I grab a dagger from the guard and hand it to her. She holds onto it with shaky hands as she looks up at m with watery eyes.
"I've never had to use a weapon before. I don't even know how to." She says as she stares at the dagger in her hands like it is foreign matter from another universe.
"It's a deadly weapon and it's sharp. If we get into a complicated situation and you have to defend yourself, you stab anyone in your way, do you understand me?" I hold onto her shoulders and she nods her head at me in understanding.
"Wait…" She says and then suddenly wraps her hands round my torso in a warm hug as she sobs. "I don't know if we're going to make it out of here alive but I want to thank you. Thank you for giving me a fighting chance. Thank you for giving me hope. I had lost it. I'll do what I have to do and I won't be a burden. I'll be strong. I want to get out of this place."
My body tenses up with her hands around me but I finally give in and reciprocate the hug. She finally lets go off me and offers me a kind smile.
"Let's go. Just stay next to me and you'll be okay. Right now, majority of the guards will be focused on where the auction is taking place so there might not be that many guards on this side of the building but they're still here." I wince in pain as the wound on my shoulder and thigh magnify a bit from fighting and killing that guard, but I ignore it. And I'll ignore it all night until I get Naomi out of here.
"When we get to the grounds outside, we'll need to find a car. If I don't manage to get in with you, you get into the driver's seat and drive the hell away from here while I cover you and whatever you do. You don't look back." I say and she widens her eyes at me.
"But I can't leave you." She says with a weak voice.
"If it comes down to it, you'll have to. I have no problem with dying tonight, Naomi. My sole mission is to get you out safe and that's what we're going to do okay?" I place my hands on either side of her face as she nods and then I give her a minute to compose herself before letting her go.
"Let's go." I say as I walk towards the door. I open it slowly and then peep outside to verify if there are any guards in the vicinity. There is no other guards outside so I suppose just one guard was standing outside of the door guarding Naomi and I. One thing about Veronica is that she is careful and she is always one step ahead but once she thinks she has won, she lets down her guard and that is exactly what is making her so vulnerable in this moment.
"Coast is clear. Let's go." Naomi follows carefully behind me as I lead her down the hallway and towards the stairway. We're so close. So damn close and I honestly believe that if we're careful enough then we'll be able to do this. We'll be able to get out of here unscathed with no wounds on anyone. Once I get Naomi in a car, I want her to drive like her life depends on it until she's far away from danger.
As we reach the end of the hallway, I see three guards climbing up the stairs and I don't hesitate to shoot at them with the silencer. I act fast and aim for their heads and in seconds, three of them drop dead. I'm so glad that the guard had a silencer on him because I can kill whoever I want right no without drawing too much attention to myself. Naomi almost shrieks but she closes her mouth with her palm as she stares at the dead bodies in front of her.
We walk down the stairs and luckily for us, no guards are in sight but I know there will be guards all over the front of the house more than the back. So, I lead Naomi into the kitchens instead and as soon as I open the door to the kitchen, I am met with ten guards walking around lazily. It's weird that they are all packed in here and not in the house. What the fuck are they doing in the kitchen.
Once they notice me, they do not react immediately.
"What are you doing here?" One of them asks me with a raise of his brows.
"Just getting her some food." I answer in a plain voice, not giving away any emotion. I ready my hands to grab my gun as I step in front of Naomi, shielding her with my body as I get ready for what is about to happen.
"Isn't that the girl Veronica asked to not be let out of her cage?" Another guard asks me with a raise of his brows and suddenly, all the guards in the kitchen are on alert.
"For fuck's sake…" I swear and grab my gun.
