Like a hawk watching its prey, every eye was fixed on Kayden—like he was some crucified enemy everyone waited to see fall.
He knew the hatred for him would never end, maybe it never could. But that wasn't enough to silence him. The man was ugly, the witch doctor's appearance horrifying, and Kayden simply pointed it out. Now everyone looked at him as though he had committed an abomination. What the heck.
"Mister, that was uncalled for. You're ordered here for investigation, not to make fun of someone's disability," one of the female council members snapped.
Kayden scoffed. Of course they'd reprimand him. Levi and Zolan had already taken their seats among the rows reserved for the royal family, leaving him alone in the middle of the court.
Stephen noticed and wanted to offer Kayden a seat, but the witch doctor's harsh voice cut through.
"He isn't sitting until we check him out. We must know whether he is supernatural or not," the witch doctor declared.
