Mika already knew.
He already knew how badly he had treated his family before.
It wasn't that he had abused them or hurt them intentionally or done anything particularly cruel.
It was more subtle than that. More insidious.
He had simply...distanced himself.
Whenever they called, he wouldn't pick up.
Whenever they messaged, he would avoid responding for as long as possible.
Whenever they tried to make plans, he would find excuses not to show.
And this was mostly directed at the Battle Angels themselves—the mothers—since he was locked in that constant battle of emotions with them, never sure how to feel, never sure how to act.
But the daughters?
They had suffered from his distance too.
He knew that now.
He knew the effect it had on all of them—the loneliness, the sadness, the quiet heartbreak of wanting to spend time with someone who kept pushing them away.
And he regretted it.
He regretted it so much.
That's why he was trying to change now.
