Chapter 45 - Chapter 45 The Adventures of Werewolf (Part 3)

"Go!" Alfrina bent down to help Lockhart, whose hair and face were covered in dust, making him look quite disheveled.

"Don't stop me," Lockhart shook off her hand, feeling enraged that others had seen him in such a state. "I can handle this wolf by myself!"

He picked up his wand from the ground and pointed it at the grey wolf, "Explosion!"

This was a spell he had just learned, and its effect was extremely powerful.

A playful glint flashed in the grey wolf's eyes as it took Lockhart's spell head-on.

Lockhart's spell was indeed quite powerful. After a loud bang, the entire wolf was engulfed in flames, and plumes of dust billowed out.

"Success!" Lockhart triumphantly raised his hands, straightened his back, and smoothed his disheveled golden hair. Alfrina also breathed a sigh of relief.

The sound of the explosion gradually faded, but Alfrina heard other noises coming from within the flames. Something was wrong!

The sound of metal falling to the ground reached their ears, and then the grey wolf sprang out, shaking its head to clear the dust from its body.

Alfrina saw the four chains in the dust and finally understood what Lockhart had just done.

The freed grey wolf bared its teeth at the two, revealing its gleaming fangs, as if laughing triumphantly.

"Quick, follow me!" Gary had no time to respond to Sirius's taunts now. He scrambled up from the ground, grabbed his wand, and hurried into the house.

Before they even entered, Alfrina, pulling the terrified Lockhart, rushed out and plunged into Gary's arms.

"Run, run!" she shrieked, pushing Gary.

The remaining four were startled by Alfrina's appearance and stood frozen in place. Then they heard heavy breathing coming from the room, and a grey wolf darted out. The four felt their legs give out. The wolf's body recoiled slightly, then it pushed off its hind legs and lunged at them.

A group of twelve or thirteen-year-old Wizards were like toys before the grey wolf; the disparity in size and strength was so immense.

It wasn't until the grey wolf was about to charge at Sirius that the strong will to survive made James and the others react. Sirius, facing the grey wolf's claws, nimbly crouched down and rolled on the ground, dodging the attack.

To avoid the grey wolf's attack, the four ran out of the Shrieking Shack and into the large open space in front of the house.

"Stop it with magic!" Sirius shouted, turning back to cast a Stupefy.

He had twisted his ankle while rolling around in the Shrieking Shack earlier and was now limping.

The spell successfully hit the grey wolf's thick fur but had no effect. The grey wolf's assault did not slow, and it charged towards Sirius, who was bringing up the rear.

"Obstacle!" James, Peter, and Gary simultaneously cast three Obstacle Curses. Blue-green sparks shot from their wands, and after hitting the grey wolf, finally slowed its movement.

They followed Alfrina up a hillside, occasionally casting Obstacle Curses to hinder the pursuing grey wolf.

However, as time passed, the grey wolf's resistance to the Obstacle Curse increased, and the distance between it and Sirius, who was falling behind, grew shorter and shorter.

If they went around this hillside, they would reach Hogsmeade, where they could find Wizard help, but Sirius could not wait that long.

The grey wolf caught up to the limping Sirius, lunged fiercely, and, enduring the others' Obstacle Curses, tackled Sirius to the ground.

Sirius knew he was finished. The panting wolf's maw was only 0.01 centimeters away from him, but he knew he wouldn't fall in love with this wolf.

Alfrina and Lockhart, who were running at the front, turned back to help, but the closest, Peter, was still more than ten meters away from Sirius and could only watch helplessly as the grey wolf bit down.

Just as the grey wolf's gaping maw was about to bite Sirius, the grey wolf suddenly stopped moving. Sirius, pinned beneath him, could see an expression of extreme reluctance on the ferocious grey wolf's face.

It raised its head and looked at the sky. The full moon was completely obscured by thick dark clouds.

It let out a whimpering howl. Sirius felt the pressure on his body suddenly lessen. It stepped back two paces, as if giving up the attack, and its eyes changed from blood-red to brown.

Sirius quickly got up.

"What's going on?" he asked his companions behind him, but he didn't dare to look back, fearing the grey wolf would lunge again.

Though even if the grey wolf did lunge, he wouldn't be able to do anything; he might just die more clearly.

"I don't know…" James also didn't understand why the grey wolf had suddenly changed its nature.

Alfrina looked up at the sky, deep in thought.

Lockhart seized the opportunity to break free from Alfrina's grasp, raised his wand, and ran towards the grey wolf.

"Why bother thinking so much? Maybe it's scared." About five or six meters from the grey wolf, he once again raised his wand, "Explosion!"

This time, Lockhart poured all his magic into the spell. He thought the grey wolf's sudden halt was due to the injuries from their previous spells, and now he wanted to defeat it in one go.

The spell hit the grey wolf's neck, and this time the spell successfully broke through, leaving a bone-deep wound on the grey wolf's neck.

"Step back!" Alfrina shrieked.

Sirius instinctively jumped back two steps.

Lockhart was still admiring the results of his spell.

The dense dark clouds in the sky suddenly tore open, perfectly revealing a full moon.

Moonlight cascaded onto the grey wolf's body. It howled at the sky, its eyes turning crimson again. The wound on the side of its neck seemed to emit green smoke under the moonlight, healing at a visible, insane speed.

"It's over, it's all over." Alfrina's face was ashen. The grey wolf lowered its head, baring its teeth at Lockhart, who was still dazed, and charged like lightning.

Lockhart was so scared that he stumbled backward two steps, accidentally tripping himself. He could only watch helplessly as the grey wolf charged towards him.

"Shield Charm!" Gary acted. The Shield Charm was an absolutely advanced spell for second-year students.

Gary had seen this spell in Lucy's Defense Against the Dark Arts notes. She had recorded it in great detail, including the pronunciation of the spell and the wand movements.

However, Gary himself couldn't guarantee he could cast it every time. Now, in this critical situation, he had to rely on the power of the Vine Wood wand.

A thick, transparent protective layer stood between Lockhart and the grey wolf.

The grey wolf's momentum did not diminish. It crashed into the Shield Charm, its body momentarily suspended in mid-air, then fiercely shattered the Shield Charm.

It continued to lunge at Lockhart. Now, no one could save him. The timid Peter directly covered his eyes.
