Theo stood by the wall, quietly watching Daisy as she watered the flowers in the back garden. The morning light filtered through the trees, soft and golden, touching everything except the heaviness in his chest.
It had been two weeks since Jasmine's death, and Daisy hadn't shed a tear since that night. She smiled, she spoke when spoken to, and she went about her day as if the world hadn't collapsed around her.
But Theo knew better. He could sense it, the way she smiled, the way her eyes sometimes drifted to nothing, unfocused and far away. She was hiding it, burying it deep like the roots of the flowers she tended.
He took a slow breath and then walked straight towards her. The gentle hum she made while watering the plants was calm.
"Daisy," he called softly.
"Oh gosh! Theo! You should give me a hint!" She almost splashed the water towards him.
Theo chuckled softly at her startled reaction, lifting his hands in guilt.
