"So you mean Emma was actually poisoned?" Xavier asked, sounding just as surprised as I had been when I first found out.
I had just finished telling my brothers everything. From how Emma had told me about being poisoned, and how I'd found Tyler dead in his cell.
I gave a slight nod and said, "Yes."
Xavier pounded the armrest of his chair with his fist. "And Tyler! I don't believe it. Tyler was one of our oldest, most trusted guards. I never would have thought he was capable of such-such treachery."
Xerxes, looking confused, murmured, "I'm finding it hard to believe myself, but then again, if for argument's sake we suspect it wasn't Tyler, who else could have poisoned Emma?"
Xavier sat up a little straighter. He had that look in his eyes—the one he always got when he was trying to recall something.
"You have an idea?" Xerxes asked him.
