Emma's tortured voice still echoed in my head and Ash wasn't making it any easier.
"Tell them now," he urged. "Tell them what you know. YOU SAW HER! WHY ARE YOU BEING SILENT?"
By sheer force of will, I pushed thoughts of Emma out of my mind and silenced Ash. Moving closer to my mother, just in time to hear the doctor say, "...rest. She needs plenty of it if she is to make a full recovery."
My brothers and I looked down at my mother as she lay unconscious, her head pillowed in my father's lap. I tried to swallow past the sudden lump in my throat as anger simmered inside me.
While my father and the doctor talked, the hairs at the back of my neck began to prickle. I turned and found Xavier staring at me, a curious expression on his face.
I raised a brow in silent question.
Their voices faded into the background, and then I heard Xavier's voice in my head through the mindlink.
"What's going on? Is there something you're not telling me?"
