Of course, the players somehow had prior knowledge that anytime a monster was defeated, a Boss monster was to show up, but they hadn't thought it would occur in a place like this.
It wasn't even so confirmed. The players didn't know it was to occur with all the monsters they were going to face.
The first time Drahon had encountered a Boss monster in the game was back at Level One, when they finished killing off all of the Skeleton monsters.
From the knowledge he had gained, a Boss monster would rise from the corpse of any beast or monster they killed. It seemed to be some cursed mechanic of the game world.
Anytime they were to kill some monster, a Boss monster would be waiting for them.
And now, even if they killed something as little as a rat, a Boss monster was waiting for them.
