POV: Cade
I nearly crashed my truck when I saw the black SUVs surrounding our ranch.
"Federal agents," Ash said grimly from the passenger seat. "This is bad."
"How bad?"
"Look at their equipment."
Men in dark suits were setting up machines I'd never seen before. Devices with screens that beeped constantly. Metal detectors that looked like they belonged in a science fiction movie.
"What are those things?"
"Supernatural energy scanners, if I had to guess."
My blood turned cold. "Can they detect us?"
"Only one way to find out."
We parked behind the crowd of news vans and walked toward our home, trying to look like normal humans instead of worried werewolves.
"Remember," Ash whispered, "we're just concerned fathers coming home from a business trip."
"Right. Normal humans don't know their children can disintegrate weapons with their minds."
"Exactly."
