Chapter 40 - The Shooting Gallery

After leaving Selena's photo studio, the family of four went to find a quiet restaurant. As soon as they walked in, large lizards with all kinds of different tails walked past Leon. He stood in the doorway, stunned, looking at a room full of dragon customers. Leon's legs started to feel weak again.

"First-class honors… first-class honors… so many first-class honors!" Leon muttered, dazed.

"What are you scared of?"

Leon turned to Rossweise. "Huh? Scared? I'm excited! That's a lot of first-class merits I'm going to get. I'd get rich killing them all."

Rossweise gave him a look of disdain. "What's so exciting? Don't forget, you're the special one who had two little first-class honors with a first-class honor."

"No, no, your level isn't just first-class honors."

"Then what is it?"

"First-class honors where the king himself puts the crown on me and gives me the award."

Rossweise chuckled and ignored him. They sat at a table by the window and ordered a few simple dishes. The restaurant was quiet, and everyone was talking softly.

Leon and Rossweise also silently agreed not to start a conversation with each other. The two little ones were very well-behaved and started eating quietly when the food came.

After lunch, there would be about four or five hours before the photos were ready. Luckily, Sky City had plenty of fun places to help pass the time.

Of course, the main point was to make the daughters happy. Leon and Rossweise didn't really care where they went. Even though they couldn't get along in their daily life, you couldn't expect a pair of worst enemies to smile and greet each other every day.

But this couple, who seemed so mismatched, actually understood each other very well when it came to taking care of the kids. They walked until they came to a Young Dragon Amusement Park. The two little dragon girls ran off together, while Leon and Rossweise followed not far behind, keeping some distance between them.

In the Young Dragon Amusement Park, there were many parents with children. But most were single parents taking care of their kids. Couples like Leon and Rossweise were very rare. It seemed dragons really were into having babies by themselves.

Rossweise explained, "Sky City is a very open-minded place. It often takes interesting things or cultures from other races."

"As for the other dragon clans outside, most are too proud. They look down on learning or accepting things from other races."

"Oh…I see."

Leon put his arms behind his head. He paused, then said casually, "I think you're pretty good at accepting new ideas."

Rossweise glanced at him."Why?"

"Do you remember the last time I suggested you have the daughters call you'mom' instead of 'mother'? Did you talk to them about it that same night?"

Rossweise didn't avoid the question. She admitted it openly.

"Yeah. I have to admit, you humans have more delicate ideas about raising children than dragons do."

"Exactly. If it were just you handling the kids alone, the results might be hard to even imagine," Leon said, smiling smugly.

Bang, bang, bang!

Three gunshots came from the balloon pop game stall.

Leon and Rossweise looked at each other. Without a word, they both walked toward the stall. As they got closer, Noah lifted the gun again and fired two more shots.

Leon noticed now that the dragon clan's toy guns shot bullets made of concentrated magic energy. No wonder Muen wasn't playing. Compared to her sister's advanced skills, she wasn't old enough to use magic yet. But Noah missed with these two shots as well.

Snap!

A little upset, she put the gun back on the table. She bit her lip, her eyes full of disappointment.

"Mom, Muen, let's go play somewhere else," Noah said, trying to sound okay, but she still looked a little grumpy.

Even though most of the time she acted grown-up and sensible, she still had a child's side. When something really bothered her, you could see it clearly on her face.

Leon didn't tell her to try again or anything. It was obvious the stall owner had messed with the toy gun. Otherwise, with Noah's skill, she wouldn't have missed every time.

Leon had figured out this kind of "business trick" when he was a kid. He didn't expect they could still cheat kids out of their money in the dragon's Sky City. He walked forward and lifted Noah down from the chair. The family of four was about to leave. But the stall owner seemed to notice this family was dressed nicely, like they had money, and he wanted to squeeze a bit more profit out of them.

"Ah, didn't get a single prize today. Some parents just don't know what their kids really want," the owner said, wiping the toy gun and hinting at something.

Leon suddenly stopped. He looked down at Noah.

"Do you want those teddy bears?"

Noah bit her lip. She hesitated for a moment, then shook her head. "No, I don't want them."

The owner's words were a hint. There was probably more he wanted to say.

Leon looked at Muen. "Muen, do you want them?"

"Um…Muen doesn't want them either."

Okay, that meant she did want them.

Leon took Muen's hand, turned around, and walked back to the stall.

Noah was surprised for a second. Then she looked up at Rossweise.

Rossweise smiled and nodded at her.

With her mom's okay, Noah ran over too.

"Let's play ten more rounds, boss," Leon said, back at the stall.

"Ten rounds? Isn't that a bit few, sir? This game looks simple, but it's tricky. Your daughter didn't hit anything just now," the owner said, sweet-talking, clearly trying to get Leon to spend more money.

But Leon repeated calmly, "Just ten rounds."

"Alright, alright, ten rounds it is."

The owner handed over the same toy gun as before.

Noah took a few coins from her pocket and gave them to the owner.

"Thank you, "Leon said.

"Yeah,"Noah nodded.

Leon lifted the toy gun. Magic energy flowed from his fingertips into the gun's magazine.

Besides aiming, the dragon version of the balloon pop game also needed careful control of magic energy.

The first shot.

The bullet went the wrong way.

"It's okay,it's okay, keep going," the owner said, sounding fake.

Muen tugged on Leon's clothes and looked up.

"Daddy, maybe we should stop. Muen doesn't need that teddy bear. It's okay."

It wasn't that the family didn't have money for a few more games. They could just buy the teddy bear at a high price.

But the bad luck for the owner was that this family was very stubborn. Especially the one holding the gun right now.

Leon patted Muen's little head. "It's okay. Daddy can do it."

"Yeah, sir, I'm sure you can! How about adding more money and shooting a few more—"

The owner spoke too soon. Leon missed the first shot because he was testing how much the gun had been messed with. Now that Leon knew, he could adjust for it. He fired several shots in a row.

After using all ten shots, Leon hit the target nine times. The prize was two large teddy bears.

"Thank you, boss. See, I told you ten times was enough."

Leon gave the two teddy bears to his daughters. The owner was speechless and almost cried.

Where did this expert come from? Even with a messed-up sight, he can still hit the target!

Get away from my stall!

Leon turned around, feeling satisfied. He looked up at Rossweise. The mother dragon had nothing, while the two daughters came back with full hands.

He thought about it.

He turned back.

"Boss, ten more rounds."
