Chapter 60 - awakening class

The group was shocked seeing their Dean in their class.

"What are you doing here, Mr. Damien?" Joey questioned.

"Well, I'm this class's awakening teacher. Nice to meet all my freshmen who were strong enough to join this class."

"Well, that explains a lot," Nico commented.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Almost no one ever saw you in the first year hall. You're like a ghost, and you barely checked up on any of the classes which also begs the question: Are you really a dean?"

"Hey, I am your dean. I just have this class to take care of so I only have time to do my dean duties."

"Or are you using this class as an excuse to not do your dean duties?" Wren asked with a suspicious look.

"That's cool and all, but can you guys please get off me?" Riven yelled out.

They all got off of Riven and moved from where they teleported, not wanting to be crushed by any more students.

The group looked around at their new setting, looking at the orange, almost golden arena. The group themselves seemed to be in the spectator sidelines. When they all looked in the middle of the arena, they could see students back one another, but unlike their weapons, the class was only using their evolved abilities.

"Now this is my kind of party," Harkel said. He was going to grab the ledge to hop down in the middle, but a barrier stopped him.

"Woah." Harkel then started feeling all around the barrier. It was invisible until someone touched it, then a bright blue glow appeared.

"If you're done touching, I could teleport you down to the rest of the class so we can learn," Damien said, which made Harkel's cheeks turn red in embarrassment.

"Now let's go." But before Damien could teleport them to the field, another white flash was seen where two boys fell.

"Get off me, runt!" one of them yelled out. "Woah, this place looks so cool."

The group knew who this boy was — it was the boy who was getting in a confrontation with a girl outside. And the group also knew the other person there; it was Emmett. Riven was surprised the boy was here since he originally classified Emmett as weak, but then he really thought about it — he never really saw Emmett use his power at full strength or seen the boy in a one-on-one battle.

"Good timing, now I don't have to make two trips. Now you two hurry up and get over here before I leave you behind and you get detention. And trust me, you don't want detention."

Damien stared at the two in their eyes, giving them shivers as they quickly ran over to the group, but the other boy made sure to keep his distance away from Nico.

They all appeared in the middle of the arena with Damien, letting out a huge clap. Everyone then soon stopped training and immediately looked at Damien and started bowing.

"Are they OK?" Tessa whispered.

"Oh trust me, you're going to see real soon why they act like this."

This gave everyone a shiver down their spine.

"Now that our first years are finally here, it's time for me to make my announcements on what we'll be doing today. Today will be physical training. We will be doing reps of exercises that involve your evolved ability. You will extend your ability to the limit. If I find out — and trust me, I'll know — if you hold back or not, you will get detention. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes, sir!" all of the second years yelled.

"What exactly is detention?" Riven asked.

"Trust me, you don't wanna know."

After Damien said those words, he teleported himself with some students and came back. He repeated this action over and over again until the first years were left. He then teleported all of them together.

"You, come here." Damien pointed at Riven, who walked over to the man. He had a type of silver armor and put it on top of Riven. The weight weighed the boy down, him struggling to get back up, but after remembering what Damien said at the start about them holding back, he used his true awakening form to get back up, which allowed him to get up easily.

But then Damien tapped on the armor and an interface showed up with it saying:

"100 tons."

He then changed it to 200 tons. Riven then almost piledrove right back into the ground, but he was able to lift himself up. Then Damien held his hand out and an apple appeared. He put it on a pedestal that was just standing there.

"Now I want you to lift up this apple while being weighed down by two hundred tons. I expect results by the end of the week." Damien then walked away, going towards the others, which scared them. He walked up to Leo and gave the boy three metal balls that looked both liquid and solid.

"You will control all three of these, being able to make constructs and weapons — anything out of these metal balls all at the same time."

Then Kira — he summoned holograms of beasts and humans with several injuries on their bodies and even missing limbs.

"You will constantly heal these holograms. If you cannot heal it in one fast go, the wounds and missing limbs will show up once again. So the only way you can pass with this is if you're able to instantly heal all of these in one go."

Then Nico.

"Your flames are powerful, but when it comes down to other people with the same ability, you're nothing in comparison no matter how much firepower you have. See, what you need is more control. Your flames aren't just flames. They're pyrokinesis. You can control flames without even producing your own flames. If an evolved person has the same ability as you, you can control their flames and use it against them."

He then teleported a small fire and then a ring.

"I want you to give this flame into that small ring. If you can, I will up the ante and make the flame smaller and you make the ring smaller as well."

Then he went to Tessa.

"Your evolved ability is flight. Even though I heard you might've evolved a second one, I will still stick to your main one." Damien then put the same armor that was on Riven on Tessa, but the weight itself wasn't as much as what Riven had on, but it was still straining the girl down.

"You will fly up and try to touch the top of this area. I don't expect you to get this week, but I expect you to get a quarter of the way there."

He then went to Jordan.

"Now your evolution is a tricky one. You can control ink, but from the report you can also control shadows somewhat, so how exactly do I do this?" Damien was thinking until he snapped his fingers.

"Now I know."

Several holograms showed up of the beasts from the plant that they went on their first outing.

"I want you to replicate some of these beasts into ink and have them face one another. Most likely your ink beasts will be weaker, but the more they destroy the more you will learn from them."

A bigger beast then showed up, one similar to the werewolf.

"How did you—?"

"How do we do something like this? Well, those things that attacked you left a lot of their DNA lying around on the world. Wasn't too hard. Now what I want you to do is try to hold it down. It will run forward and you just have to stop it from running, keeping it in its place."

The beast itself looked like Milo. He knew it wasn't by his eyes.

Then Harkel.

"You will have to resist that of a windmill going at high speed. You have a wind evolution, then you must become the master of the wind. I'll teleport you there later. Truthfully, I'm teleporting all of you in separate spots, but yours is too big to be teleported here and to be shown out as an example for you. But long story short, you must be able to walk through it and stop the windmill from pushing you back and stop it in general."

Harkel nodded at the man's words.

He then walked to both Wren and Skye.

"Now the both of you will have the same thing technically." Damien teleported another armor in his hand, but different from the one both Tessa and Riven got. He then put it on the two.

"This is the Impulse Plate. It forces an evolver to use their ability, and with that I want this to help you." He pointed at Wren. "To discharge more lightning out of your body and make it where your lightning is stronger than before and get your body used to more output."

"And then there's you." Damien then looked at Skye. "I heard what happened between you and the second year, Sarah. You have a true awakening form and you can make words into reality just by saying them, but it has a limit. She goes for how much you can produce, so with this on, you will produce words just by saying them. Oh, and another thing!" Damien yelled out the last part. "Those with armor on cannot take them off unless I want them to be taken off since I'm the one with the key. So yeah, just in case you try to play me."

Damien then walked over to Harkel.

"Air is pretty calm when it comes down to forced and natural evolved people, so it was not gonna be too hard. Keep air flowing around you in a current like you're controlling a wave of water. While doing that, keep your body in the air. Try to get used to your own weight while at it. And I want you to keep your body up in the air, but I also want you to do it without using your true awakening form. Build up your base power and control of the air, then when you go back in your true awakening form, you will feel the difference and feel it being stronger."

He then walked up to Luka.

"Truthfully, of all of them, you're probably the easiest one. What I want you to do is get creative. Your evolved ability is nature. You can use and do many things, not just controlling vines. So you figure that out on your own." He then walked away.

"What type of help was that?" Luka questioned in his mind.

And then he came to Joey, the one that he really didn't know what to do with.

"I went all through the forced and natural evolved powers in the archive, yet your ability to both do powerful beams and being able to help others are nowhere to be found. Now, I don't get a big head; there are many abilities that people have that aren't in the archives, so you can't feel special, but not too special. Now here's what I think you can do: I want you to let out beam over and over again. You're also going to attack a physical beast, but it won't attack back. Trust me, we neutralized it. You will attack this beast over and over again, but you will not kill it. You will injure it over and over and heal it over and over again. You basically have a mixture of some of your classmates' evolved training."

He then walked up to Emmett.

"Now for you, you need to learn how to control the ground on a mass scale. Not being able to control a certain position or a certain point — you need to be able to just stomp on the ground and have the entire terrain turn into what you want it to be. Now what I want from you is to make it where you can do this at 20 meters by the end of the week."

He then went up to the boy from before.

"Now you, your ability is telekinesis, so it shouldn't be too far off from gravity, boy over there. I just have to make the weight less and just make it where you carry something more than just an apple. I'll make you carry a bowling ball, yeah, a bowling ball." The boy could tell Damien was coming out with his training routine off the top of his head.

"Now I will teleport all of you to a separate room where you all will train on your own. Are you ready?"

Joey wanted to ask a question, but Damien ignored him.

"All right, I see you're ready. Let's go!"
