Cain had many questions but there was only one he could openly ask.
"This Duchess is from hundreds of years ago? How is it possible that she could be alive today?"
Anna seemed to be getting more and more suspicious of the line of questioning but in front of the other students, she could only swallow them for now and answer.
"Officially, the history books state that the gods granted the Heroes immortality after vanquishing the Betrayer."
'Bullshit! Those so called Gods wouldn't move, even if the world was to face ruin.'
Gaius immediately retorted yet Anna continued as nobody but Cain could hear him to begin with.
"They were celebrated as saviors, and granting them eternal life was seen as a divine gift. Essentially it was a way to preserve peace and stability through their continued presence. At least, that's what the books say."
She hesitated then, just slightly. A pause most wouldn't notice.
"But... I have my own theory."
