Chapter 34 - The Emissary’s Game

Setting: Velaris – War Chamber, Forbidden Library, Selaria's Domain

Theme: Secrets unravel, war lines shift, and a forbidden prophecy stirs.

---

[Scene 1 – The Gathering Storm]

In the War Chamber of Velaris, torches flickered with nervous light.

Kaelrin, Lyra, Darien, and the remaining highlords sat around a crescent-shaped table of obsidian. The crimson scroll from Queen Selaria lay unopened before them.

> "It reeks of black magic," murmured Archmage Relan.

> "It reeks of desperation," Kaelrin countered. "We need to know what she's truly after."

Darien broke the seal.

Inside were two demands:

1. Turn over Kaelrin — the Duke and descendant of the Flameborn Line.

2. Turn over Lyra — marked as "The Veiled Key" in ancient prophecy.

And in return?

Velaris would be spared.

Lyra's hands trembled slightly.

> "Why… me?"

The room remained silent. Until the Archmage stood slowly.

> "Because… you are more than you know."

---

[Scene 2 – The Veiled Key]

In the Forbidden Library, hidden beneath the castle, Lyra and Kaelrin followed Relan deep into the shadows.

He summoned a sigil with blood and light. An ancient book unlocked.

> The Tale of the Veiled Key and the Flameborn Blade.

It told of a woman born with a fractured soul — half light, half ruin — who could open the Gate of Echoes, a portal between realms… and gods.

> "She was the Veiled Key," Relan whispered, looking at Lyra.

> "And the Flameborn?" Kaelrin asked, though he already knew.

> "You."

They stared at each other.

Two fates.

Two fire-forged souls.

Bound… and doomed.

> "And if we refuse Selaria?" Lyra asked.

> "Then she brings the Drake of Ash — a creature not seen since the gods fell."

---

[Scene 3 – The Assassin's Invitation]

That night, a cloaked figure slipped through the castle gates.

Moving like wind, she evaded every guard, every ward.

She entered Lyra's chambers.

> "You were warned not to stay," the voice said, muffled by a porcelain mask.

Lyra leapt up, blade drawn.

> "Who are you?"

The figure dropped a coin — silver on one side, blood-red on the other.

> "A Shadow from Selaria. And a friend."

She vanished.

Left behind: a sealed letter and a single red feather.

Kaelrin found Lyra moments later.

> "You're trembling."

> "We're already at war… and it hasn't even begun."

---

[Scene 4 – Selaria's Domain]

In the Crimson Cathedral, Queen Selaria stood barefoot beneath a burning chandelier.

Before her knelt a dozen acolytes.

> "Velaris hesitates," her adviser whispered.

> "Let them," she said. "They must break before they bend."

> "Shall we begin the Offering?"

Selaria nodded.

A child was brought forward — wide-eyed, silent.

Selaria lifted a chalice and chanted.

Red light poured from the child's chest — not blood… memory.

> "The Gate opens soon," she whispered. "And the Key will kneel before me."

She drank.

And screamed with ecstasy.

---

[Scene 5 – A Decision in Moonlight]

On the northern balcony, Kaelrin and Lyra stood beneath a shivering sky.

> "You're going to leave," Lyra said softly.

> "Only to stop her."

> "And if you don't return?"

> "Then this world was never mine to keep."

She reached up, brushing his face.

> "You are mine," she said. "And I will burn heaven and hell to bring you back."

He kissed her.

And the stars above seemed to hold their breath.
