As the prosecutor disappeared down the hall, a familiar face approached with a wide grin. Officer Miller, one of the few guards Ethan actually considered a friend, stepped forward and gave him a playful nudge.
"Look at you, walking around like you own the place. Oh wait, you basically do," said Miller.
"Good to see you, Miller. How's the shift treating you?" said Ethan.
The two started walking toward the Director's office, the heavy clatter of boots echoing as they shared a laugh. Miller leaned in closer, his voice dropping to that conspiratorial tone they used to share back when Ethan was behind bars.
"The shift is fine, but the boss? Man, ever since you left, Hayes has become a complete nightmare. She's demanding, she's irritable, and she's hungry. We've had to start a damn rotation just to keep up with her," said Miller.
"A rotation? Don't tell me you guys can't handle one woman," said Ethan.
