Chapter 3 - Chapter 3; Mother, can you divorce Dad?

She gathered Xuan'er's clothes and carried them to the sink, but a sudden wave of nausea rose up, catching her off guard. Yueyao dropped the basket and stumbled to the bathroom.

She vomited until there was nothing left, only bile burning her throat up out of her mouth. Her vision went black as she collapsed against the cold tiles, her trembling fingers knocking over a glass tumbler that shattered loudly alerting the maids and Shen Xuan

"Mother…"

She opened her eyes weakly hearing her son's voice that would make her overcome everything... Shen Xuan stood in the doorway, dressed in his pale blue pajamas. He was only four, but his little face looked eerily calm for such kind of situations.

"Xuan'er…" she whispered, reaching out to him as, her shaking hand stretched toward him, "Come… come to Mommy…"

But Shen Xuan stepped back, avoiding her touch even more so keeping his distance. His dark eyes were as emotionless as his father's, they seemed to be made from the same mold!

Her hand dropped to the floor limply seeing her son stepping back and giving her such a cold glance. The pain in her chest was far sharper than the cramps twisting in her gut.

And everything went black.

Yueyao woke to the antiseptic sting of the hospital ward.

"You have an Acute gastritis, likely caused by stress and an irregular diet," the doctor said with a hint of worry, "You need rest. Please avoid emotional strain and stressing yourself."

She nodded silently her mind blurry! Her lips were bloodless, and her eyes felt like they were clouded.

"Should I inform Master Shen?" Aunt Mei, who was accompanying her, inquired worriedly. "He… he might want to know…"

"No." Yueyao shook her head with a faint smile, "Don't disturb him." She knew him, he was unfeeling and uncaring towards her, nothing would move him.

After Aunt Mei left, silence fell over the wardroom. Yueyao turned her head toward the window, gazing at the dawn light creeping across the sky.

Suddenly, the wardroom door creaked open. Shen Xuan stood there, his small hands clutching the strap of his bag.

"Mother…"

Tears welled up in Yueyao's eyes seeing her son, "Xuan'er… come here, baby."

She reached out, her hands stretched out as her entire body aching to hold him close.

But Shen Xuan only tilted his head with such cold eyes and was unfazed! "Mother… can you divorce Father?"

Yueyao's outstretched hand froze in midair, her eyes wide open surprised. Her chest tightened painfully hearing that from him.

"Why… why would you say that?" she asked, her voice trembling and unbelievable that it came out of his mouth.

Shen Xuan's clear eyes blinked at her, "Because… if you leave, you won't cry anymore. You won't be sad and you can live your life!"

Yueyao's tears fell freely. She pulled her hand back and covered her mouth to stifle a sob. She has been careful around him but still, she hadn't expected he would recognize the situation she was in.

Her four-year-old son had seen through her suffering. Even a child could tell that her marriage was only an endless graveyard of her dignity and hope.

But she still forced a smile and whispered, "It's okay, Xuan'er. As long as you are here, Mommy will be okay… You are my world!"

Outside the ward, Shen Xiao stood silently by the doorway. His gaze flickered when he heard her words, but his expression remained cold as frost.
