Chapter 7 - Cloaked

A long sixty days meeting with the devil could be tolerable, but not the sight of two lowly mortal women being the reason he wouldn't be able to make it back in time like he foreshadowed was the least he could take.

His demonic gaze darkened on the one so courageous enough to stand in his way. She was so small and easy to have her body and brains a nasty mess on this lonely road if he should encourage Apophis to make the move.

But there was something about this human that interested him enough to exercise the tiniest drop of patience and see if she would realize her mistake and move.

Eve saw that the mysterious form of the rider on the horse was willing to wait and not run her over like she feared. She sighed in relief while letting her hands down before looking up at his tall dark form for help.

The dress he had on was dark and simple to be considered befitting of a noble—the white horse towering over her small figure was a special breed—one she could tell rose from the ashes of numerous rituals and magic based on the peculiarity in its eye color. Anyone able to afford such a rare breed of horse must indeed be rich and wealthy enough to be assumed as a noble.

And he might be their last ticket to use to get past Red Ville's tight security.

''Um...''

He tried not to lose it yet. He had never been more irritated and composed at the same time about a situation as this before.

''...please, we might need your help…''

She said, and he could tell she was scared with the way her voice broke and her lips trembled a bit. Somehow, his divine gaze wandered all the way down to her body, and they paused at her feet.

''We are…nobles….''

Of course, you aren't. Even the poorest mice might look more presentable and believable.

His gaze hardened on her, trying to figure out her problem before he decided if all this was worth a millisecond of his time.

''...we lost our dragon plaques….''

Is she this clueless and terrible at lying? Only demons possess the dragon plaques.

What a nuisance.

His eyes seemed to linger more on her bruised feet being subjected to survive the horrors of a shoe made two sizes smaller than her feet.

''And we can't seem to find our way into the road of Red Ville…''

Kira gasped when a solid dragon plaque appeared at Eve's feet. A plaque worth more than a thousand barrels of golden coins shined brightly at her sister's feet. Eve stared at it because it was the most beautiful and worthy thing in all of existence. She stared back at the mystery rider in gratitude, her heart pounding in her chest as she was about to open her mouth to thank him...

Kira immediately pulled her sister from the road as the cloaked rider dashed past them in a hurry, disappearing down the road and with the night.

Eve couldn't help but smile in gratitude again. She bent down to pick the heavy, pocket-sized plaque. Kira stood close to stare at it but frowned at the peculiarity of the golden plaque in her sister's palms.

She tried to remember how Demonlord Raha's plaque looked and was confused by the differences it had to this one.

''What? Isn't he also a demonlord?'' Kira wondered aloud at the strangeness of the style and uniqueness of this particular dragon plaque.

''What do you mean?''

Kira stared back at the plaque in confusion. ''This is totally different from the dragon plaques they issue to demons and demonlords according to their ranks, and it looks to be made out of solid gold—not a cheap imitation.''

Eve stared down at it, not having a clue about these things.

''Probably he is from a higher or different rank of demonlords…?'' Eve said to Kira, who was finding that hard to believe.

''I doubt that, because no demonlord rank would be worth a dragon plaque made out of White Gold Stone. The rarest form of gold in all of Hell and the underworld as a whole.''

Eve's eyes fell on the road winding down before them as she thought deeply into this.

''Or maybe he is just the rarest kind of demon deserving of a White Gold dragon plaque. And he has just done us a huge favour. He seems to be heading down our way... why don't we try catching up to him and returning his White Gold Stone dragon plaque?''

Kira stared at her sister before nodding her head in approval.

''We return it back to him once we've gained access into Red Ville with this—no demon would dare doubt our worth now that we have this,'' she said, pointing to the plaque in her palms. ''We walk down the rest of the red road in Red Ville and reach Gall Stone Mountain in no time without missing so much of tonight's celebration.''

I can also finally die in peace if I get to see him just once and keep loving him forever.

Her smile grew, and Kira thought this journey would have been more miserable if she hadn't brought Eve along with her. Her other sisters would have given up a few minutes on their way down here to Lem's Street and would have been too scared to stop a random stranger on a horse for help at night.

Kira nodded her head at her sister, sucking back her tears before taking the plaque from Eve to keep it safely in the small purse she carried along with her. Who would have imagined that this journey would earn her the chance to see something made beautifully out of White Gold Stone before? Another thing to brag and be proud of apart from tonight's event.

''Shall we?'' Eve asked, extending her hands to her sister for them to continue their journey to the Red Palace. Kira placed her hands in hers and nodded for them to continue.
