Chapter 3 - NEW FRIENDS

Chapter 3

MIRA

Mira walked into school, still feeling a bit angry with Max after their encounter the previous day. But she decided to let it go and be cool, not wanting to let one awkward interaction ruin her day.

As she walked down the hallway, she met two girls who seemed friendly and approachable. "Hi, I'm Sophia," one of them said, smiling. "And this is Rachel."

Mira smiled back, feeling a sense of relief. "I'm Mira. Nice to meet you guys."

The three of them chatted for a bit, exchanging stories and laughter. Mira was starting to feel more at ease, enjoying the company of her new friends.

Just as they were getting to know each other, Ethan appeared out of nowhere, grinning from ear to ear. "Hey, Mira! Ready to explore the school with me?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

Mira raised an eyebrow, surprised by the sudden interruption. "Uh, I was just getting to know Sophia and Rachel," she said, gesturing to her new friends.

Ethan nodded, unfazed. "Oh, great! They can come too! I'll show you all around the school."

Before Mira could protest, Ethan had already taken her arm and was pulling her away from Sophia and Rachel. "Come on, I'll show you the best spots," he said, his enthusiasm infectious.

Mira couldn't help but laugh as Ethan dragged her along, Sophia and Rachel tagging along behind them. She had a feeling that this was going to be an interesting day.

As Ethan took Mira around the school, he pointed out various landmarks and shared stories about the school's history and traditions. Mira listened intently, fascinated by the tidbits of information he shared.

Ethan showed her the best places to study, the most popular hangout spots, and even the secret passageways that only a select few knew about. Mira was impressed by his knowledge and enthusiasm.

Sophia and Rachel tagged along, chiming in with their own experiences and anecdotes. The four of them laughed and joked, quickly becoming fast friends.

As they walked, Ethan told Mira about the school's clubs and extracurricular activities, suggesting ones that might interest her. Mira was grateful for his guidance, feeling more and more at home with each passing minute.

By the end of the tour, Mira felt like she had a good grasp of the school's layout and culture. She thanked Ethan for showing her around, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him.

"No problem, happy to help," Ethan said, grinning. "You're going to love it here."

Mira smiled, feeling a sense of excitement about the days ahead. With Ethan, Sophia, and Rachel by her side, she was ready to take on whatever challenges came her way.

*********

After school, Sophia and Rachel decided to come over to Mira's house for a sleepover. They spent the evening gossiping and giggling, sharing stories about their boyfriends and crushes.

Mira listened intently, feeling a bit like she was part of the group. But as they talked, she found herself gazing out the window, wondering if she would see Max again.

She couldn't help but think about their awkward encounter and the way he had smiled at her. She felt a flutter in her chest as she thought about his twin brother, Ethan, and the way he had taken her on a tour of the school.

Sophia noticed Mira's distant expression and nudged her playfully. "Hey, Mira, what's on your mind?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

Mira snapped back to reality, feeling a bit self-conscious. "Just thinking about school," she said, trying to brush it off.

But Sophia wasn't buying it. "Come on, spill the beans," she said, leaning in closer. "Do you have a crush on someone?"

Mira hesitated, unsure of how to respond. But before she could say anything, Rachel chimed in. "I bet it's Max," she said, a sly grin spreading across her face.

Mira's eyes widened in surprise. "How did you know?" she asked, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Sophia and Rachel exchanged a knowing look, and then they both burst out laughing. "We've seen the way you look at him," Sophia said, giggling.

Mira's face turned bright red as she realized she had been caught. But she couldn't help but laugh along with her friends, feeling a sense of relief that she had shared her secret with them.

But she couldn't look that easy

Mira shook her head, trying to play it cool. "No way, I don't have a crush on Max," she said, trying to sound convincing.

Sophia and Rachel raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying it. "Come on, Mira, we've seen the way you look at him," Sophia said, teasing her.

Mira laughed, feeling a bit embarrassed. "I'm just curious about him, that's all," she said, trying to downplay her feelings.

Rachel grinned mischievously. "Curious, huh? Well, we can definitely help you get to know him better."

Mira's heart skipped a beat at the suggestion. She wasn't sure if she was ready to get to know Max better, but a part of her was curious to see what would happen.

Sophia and Rachel continued to tease her, making jokes and playful comments about Max. Mira laughed along with them, feeling a sense of camaraderie with her new friends.

As the night wore on, they talked about everything from school gossip to their favorite TV shows. Mira felt like she had finally found her tribe, and she was grateful for the friendship and support.

As Mira went downstairs to get a snack, she ran into her dad, who was sitting in the living room, reading a book. He looked up and smiled as she approached.

"Hey, kiddo! How's it going?" he asked, putting down his book.

Mira shrugged, feeling a bit self-conscious about her conversation with Sophia and Rachel earlier. "It's going good, I guess," she said, trying to sound casual.

Her dad noticed that she seemed a bit off and got up from his chair to give her a hug. "You know, I'm glad to see you're getting over your mom's passing," he said, his voice filled with love and concern. "You're starting to smile again, and that's all I can ask for."

Mira felt a lump form in her throat as she hugged her dad back. She knew he was still hurting from the loss of her mom, but he was trying to be strong for her.

"I'm happy, Dad," she said, pulling back to look at him. "I've made some new friends at school, and they're really nice."

Her dad smiled, looking relieved. "That's great, sweetie! I'm glad you're making friends. You're growing up to be a wonderful person, just like your mom would have wanted."

Mira smiled back, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her dad. She knew he was trying his best to take care of her, and she appreciated his love and support.
