Chapter 3 - Oscar Level Acting

(A/N: Disclaimer! For narrative purposes, monsters in this story are far stronger and more dangerous than in canon. Humans still remain naturally superior. However, in this version, even a regular adult monster could tear a child limb from limb… and LV acts more like a magical aura or haki from One Piece, enhancing one's lethality and their power the higher it is since LV is technically a form of "intent." I'll also be adding some new monsters.)

Time quickly resumed and the world began returning to how it once was.

Flowey continued his little dialogue.

"Down here, your soul is the culmination of your very being! Your soul starts off weak, but can grow strong if you gain a lot of LV!"

Frisk had a skeptical look at the talking flower. But due to the amiable way the flower was talking, she began to lower her vigilance.

"LV?" She muttered in confusion.

"You want to know what LV is?" Flowey chuckled. It then revealed, "Why LOVE of course!"

"You want some LOVE, don't you?" The flower said.

"Don't worry," Flowey reassured her with a cutesy wink. "I'll share some with you two!"

"Down here, love is shared through... little white... 'Friendliness Pellets!'"

Small little white orbs materialized out of thin air behind the flower, the supposed "love."

"Are you ready?" Flowey asked, tilting his head innocently. "Move around! Get as many as you can!"

Seeing the sketchiness of this scenario, only a fool would believe this flower's words.

I gave a glare and said, "Cut the crap! No one would fall for th—"

Suddenly, glowing white pellets flew toward us in a neat semicircle, like a trap made of light.

Frisk stepped forward happily.

I facepalmed mentally.

'You absolute idiot!!'

I quickly ran forward, grabbed her arm and yanked her back just as the pellets slammed into the ground, exploding like flashbangs. The stone floor near them instantly cracked and exploded into smithereens!

She gasped. "W-What…?!"

Seeing that his attack missed, Flowey's face suddenly warped. His eyes went completely black, and his voice deepened. The flower had dropped its awful facade!

"You idiots!"

There goes the cutesy mascot...

"In this world… it's kill or be killed!"

Vines then erupted from the ground, barbed and sharp like razors, shooting out in all directions. I pushed Frisk down with me and we evaded most of them. However, a few grazed the right side of my face and one even directly sliced open my back!

Holy shit it hurts!

I gritted my teeth as my face contorted in pain.

As I had tried my best to shield them from Frisk, taking most of the damage, she remained uninjured.

It hurt and stung like hell, but I knew I had to keep a clear head.

Facing death as a suicidal person who had just been given a spark of hope hardly fazed me. I only took this as an opportunity to raise my affection points with Frisk!

Heheh...

All according to keikaku.

Drip. Drip.

Blood trickled down my face, dripping onto Frisk's delicate cheek. She had a look of shock, her eyes constricting with countless turbulent emotions. Confusion, anxiousness, worry... they were all revealed in her expression.

"Kira..." She muttered, still processing everything, and why I had risked my life for her.

Flowey's grin widened. "What's the matter? Too slow? Too weak? That's why you'll both die, HAHAHAHAH!"

Soon, countless vines and small white orbs encircled the two of us, all with the intent to pulverise us into oblivion!

I held Frisk tightly, giving her a reassuring and final smile.

I'm raising all of those death flags!

Of course, inwardly, I didn't panic. Okay. Maybe a little.

Frisk's eyes watered slightly. She felt that death was imminent. "Kira, no—!"

Despite both our lives being threatened, I was quite touched that she seemed to be worrying so much about me. She was quite a likeable person, though perhaps I'm fond of her because she reminded me a little of Chara.

However, as the attacks got dangerously close, relief washed over me as I saw it!

Because in that moment, a red shimmer glowed at the corner of my vision.

A massive fire ball came flying and crashed into that annoying ass flower, sending it flying into the darkness!

"Ahh!!" It's high-pitched voice echoed in the distance.

Frisk lay there frozen for a moment, tears flowing down her cheek.

With my Oscar-like ability to perform, I took the initiative to act. I gently rubbed her tears away, giving the best heroic smile I could muster, despite the horrible pain I'm feeling.

"It looks like someone came to save us..." I spoke softly with a sunny smile.

Frisk blinked at me through tear-blurred eyes, her lips quivering. "Y-You… You're really hurt…"

I chuckled weakly, trying to make it sound like a joke, despite me feeling as if I'd pass out any second. "Heh. Don't worry, it's nothing. I'm just glad your safe."

If I could see her affection meter like in those romance games, I'd probably receive a critical strike from that line just now!

Even I'm quite amazed at my genius.
