Nora opened her eyes faintly only to see white around her. "Did I make it to heaven, well that was great at least she will feel at peace but what about her mum" she pondered, feeling sad and bad for leaving her mother alone. She was still feeling sad when a blurry figure came to her view asking her a question she couldn't quite hear. The person held her eye putting light in front of her before waving then she heard the person ask if she was alright. She tried to sit upright when she felt a dull pain in her head.
"Looks like I'm not in heaven then" she sighed. She opened her eyes very well to see a drip attached to her hand.
"I'm definitely still alive, not in heaven" she nodded to that thought.
The thought that she barely escaped death scared her, so what exactly happened. She sat up and turned to the doctor telling the nurse something who turned to look at her when she sat up.
"Umm hello I'm... I'm not dead right, ohh what a stupid question, sorry I meant how did I get here?" She asked the doctor in a whispering tone.
The doctor laughed at her silly question and he told her what exactly happened. "You are at the hospital, obviously, you were rushed in, it seemed that you had a terrible accident, bleeding all over, it was nothing serious though, your boyfriend seemed to be wo...wait, wait, what boyfriend, I definitely don't have a boyfriend, well not yet so what are you saying, or perhaps did I lose my memory, definitely not right" Nora rambled with wide eyes cutting into the doctor's word.
"Well about that I...." Again he was interrupted by the sound of the door making a little noise, and a tall handsome guy with brown hair, deep blue eyes and pink lips walked in, his cheek bruised and it stood out on his fair skin, Nora was to stunned to speak. "Who was this handsome angel" she gasped in awe, staring dreamily at him.
"Well speak of the devil, this is the guy" the doctor said looking at the boy who was staring at Nora and Nora stared back.
He stared deeply at Nora. "Brown eyes, hmmm, she's really pretty" he thought as he remembered how he got here.
He was walking right past when he saw Nora crossing the road and then the car came out of nowhere, he was hoping she would run but she looked too shocked to even move so without hesitating he ran over to her and pushed her out of the way before the car could hit her, knocking both of them to the floor. He hit his hand on the floor but he was fine so he quickly stood up and went to Nora's side to see her bleeding all over her head. He called the ambulance as a little crowd gathered around them.
When the ambulance got there, he followed them to make sure she was okay and, unknowingly to him, because he felt drawn to her in a way.
"No way, I'm just helping her out of good will, nothing more, nothing less" he shook his head as if to clear the thought from his mind. He turned his head to stare at Nora whose hair was sticking to her face and he felt the sudden urge to run his hand through her long silky brown hair, he quickly looked away.
This girl is going to be dangerous to my mental health, I can feel it" he shuddered inwardly. He just hoped he won't get tangled with her.
Back to the present...
Here he was looking into her eyes on instead of leaving. "You should treat your wound so it won't be infected" the doctor said, drawing the boy attention towards him.
"It's not necessary, I'm fine, I've a band-aid in my pocket" he said his voice slightly deep and pleasant to hear.
"OMG! His voice is so sexy" Nora was practically drooling at this point as she stared dreamily at the boy forgetting about the pain in her head for a minute.
"Fine, but you are in the hospital so you should probably see a nurse. I'll be back to check on you again, Miss." The doctor left the room and everywhere turned silent as the door opened and closed again.
Now that they were the only one in the room, Nora admired the figure in front of her before she looked at the boy that walked towards the bed before stopping beside the edge of the bed.
"I only came here to give you your phone before I leave" he said though he knew that reason was dumb because he could have just left it with the receptionist but the urge to see the colour of her eyes stopped him from leaving.
Nora stretched her hand to collect and phone and she was happy to see that the phone was still intact except from a small crack at the edge of the phone. "You need to compensate me for saving your life" he suddenly said and Nora looked at him, perplexed.
What.. compensation? Well thank you for saving my life, if you want money....I... uhh..I can give it to you ange....I mean...thank you my lifesaver" Nora stammered blabbing nonsense and everywhere suddenly turned awkward. The boy looked at her as if she had lost it.
"I don't need your money, do I look poor to you...hmm?" He asked his eyes narrowed at her as if trying to detect something.
"Then what do you want then?" She asked with widened eyes not sure what this angel wanted from her.
"Nothing much, I just want you to pay for my dry cleaning, it's because of you my cloth got dirty anyways and you look rich so I know you can pay your bill yourself" he said looking at her brown eyes.
"You just said you were not poor but anyways never mind, I'll pay my hospital bill myself and you can drop the cloth I'll dry clean it for you and return it" she said looking at his cloth that did not look that dirty or so she thought because he wore all black and only small part of his was covered with dust.
"Never mind I'll dry clean it myself..well then, I'm leaving, have a nice rest bye" he said not wanting to stay any longer in the room. He knew the conversation they just had made no sense but they both just wanted to prolong the conversation.
"Hey...wait a minute" she quickly muttered
"What do you want now?" He said pushing his bangs backwards as he turned to face her.
Nora's breath hitched as she watched him. "Damn, he's too hot"
"I...uhhh..I...you didn't tell me your name, my name is Nora, she stuttered quickly so he won't leave.
"You don't need to know my name, it's better if you don't know" he whispered the second sentence to himself.
"Why can't I know? Hmmm...perhaps are you on the run?" Nora asked to lighten the mood.
"NO!!! I'M NOT!!! Why would you say such a thing?" He asked looking slightly uncomfortable. She was so close...
"Awwww you look so cute right now" she chuckled interrupting his thought. "Tell me your name if you are not on the run then unless I'm right" she continued teasing him while smiling at how cute this handsome boy looked right now.
"Like I said before, you don't have to know" he said with an expressionless face.
"Okay you don't have to tell me now but can you please come and visit me in the following days, I don't want to be alone, Nora said putting on a sad face so he would say yes. She would have to stay in the hospital for some time because of her injury.
"I'm sure you have friends and family that can visit you" he said but he knew deep down that he also wanted to visit her but that will only invite trouble and he didn't want to risk it.
"About that, I just moved to this country and I don't have any friends and my parents..well they don't live with me. My mum is coming soon but I don't want her to worry about me because she already has enough on her plate so please just stay with me or visit me till I'm discharged" Nora said her eyes red with unshed tears.
His hands went to his hair tugging it in frustration, he was so confused on what to do and why she was at the verge of crying. What he did not know was that Nora remembered the reason she was in this country in the first place.
"Okay fine, I'll visit you, now can you stop crying, you look weird like that." He sighed
"Hey that's not true, my mum says I look beautiful when I cry" she pouted. He just shrugged his shoulders.
"So...now that you have agreed, can you tell me your name?" She asked blinking her eyes at him. He stared at her for some time before finally looking away.
"Hmmm fine my name is..Ian" he finally said. "Your name is lovely just like...uhh..yeah Ha! Ha!" She chuckled nervously.
"Yeah, I've to go, I've a shift at a cafe so good bye for the second time" Ian said. "Ohh okay byee" Nora said her face drooping. "Can you get me something on your way here tomorrow, maybe some ice cream or iced Americano."
"I'm not sure you should take anything cold for the main time" he said with one of his eyebrows lifted. "But I want to drink something cold, it's not like I'll get brain freeze or something" she said rolling her eyes. "Ok as you wish" he said before leaving. Immediately he left the doctor came in to give her a pain reliever before leaving too.
Ian came back as promised and he brought an iced Americano for Nora. They strolled in the hospital garden for a while because Nora wanted fresh air. They did not talk much though, after some time he left after Nora had dozed off immediately after they got to her ward. When Ian got home, he freshened up before lying down. "Nora..hmm..nice name" he thought before dozing off.
Nora stayed in the hospital for two more days and Ian came to visit her during the evenings because he had to work in the cafe in the afternoon, anytime he came they strolled in the garden.
A day before Nora would be discharged, the two of them strolled in the garden as usual in the evening. They sat on the bench in the garden, with Nora sipping iced Americano.
"Ahh this is nice" Nora exclaimed, staring at the starry sky. Ian looked at her before looking up too.
" In two weeks time I'll resume school, I can hardly wait" Nora smiled. "Hey..uhh..Ian how old are you anyways" she said trying to get used to his name.
Ian barely shrugged. "I'm not telling." Nora's eyebrows furrowed. "Why won't you tell me, I'm seventeen years I'm gonna clock eighteen in a few months time."
"You don't learn do you? You should know I won't tell you my age yet you go ahead and tell me yours" Ian murmured to himself, shaking his head. "Hmm did you say something?" Nora asked.
"No I did not" he replied and her eyes narrowed at him. "Why won't you just spill it out, it's not like anything will happen. You did not want to tell me your name at first but you ended up telling me later and nothing happened" she mumbled hoping he will talk.
There was a brief silence before he opened his mouth to talk. "You are so pushy...well I'm nin...I'm eighteen, I'm going to clock nineteen next year" he stuttered.
"You are just a year older than me, you act kinda old for your age." Nora said and he simply rolled his eyes.
Nora yawned and rubbed her arms feeling the hair on her hands stand because of the chilly breeze. "I think it's time to go inside I'm feeling sleepy and cold."
"Ok let's go inside" he said and led Nora into her ward.
"Will you come tomorrow?" Nora asked as she watched Ian cover her with her blanket.
"Probably" he shrugged.
"Please come, okay?" She said with pleading eyes but he did not respond.
After some time she dozed off. Ian stood up from the couch and walked towards the bed and moved to push the few strands of hair that were sticking out. "Don't expect me" he murmured to her even though he knew that she could not hear anything before he quitely left her ward....
