Chapter 19 - ch19

# **Chapter 19 – The Seeds of Rebellion**

*(\~2,000 words; unrest begins, Talia's conscience, Nerissa's visions deepen)*

---

**Outer Colonies – Rhade System**

In the dim recesses of a mining complex, a dozen men and women huddled around a battered holoprojector.

Its flickering image displayed Earth's oceans boiling under the Titans' plasma lances.

A woman in a ragged militia uniform pointed at the image, voice tight.

"Tell me again—this is restraint?"

A grizzled ex-mercenary spat on the floor.

"He wants us terrified. Easier to rule that way."

The projector flickered—now showing Shawn's impassive face, his Sharingan bright and terrible.

"Then let's give him something to fear," she said.

In the shadows behind them, a hidden comm beacon pulsed once—signaling across light-years to a waiting resistance cell.

---

**Citadel – Throne Room**

Shawn sat on his throne as Talia approached, her booted steps echoing.

"My lord," she reported, bowing low. "Supply lines have stabilized, but unrest is growing on Rhade and Vireen."

He studied her, searching her impassive face for any sign of treachery.

"And the occupation forces?"

"Stretched thin," she admitted. "The clone regiments can hold for now…but if coordinated uprisings erupt, we'll have to divert forces from the core."

Venom's voice rippled across the chamber.

"Then crush them preemptively."

Talia's jaw tensed.

"With respect—if we answer every protest with annihilation, you will rule a wasteland."

Venom's smile was sharklike.

"Then he will *rule,* won't he?"

Shawn raised a hand.

"Enough. I will consider alternatives."

---

**Private Quarters**

Later, when the chamber was empty, Talia knelt alone beside the flickering tactical displays.

In that quiet, she dared to whisper what she could never say aloud:

"Forgive me, Commander. But I will not stand idle and watch you become the monster they claim."

---

**Earth – Avengers Tower**

Tony gestured at the hologram of the Citadel, lips compressed.

"Look at this. Power relays here, here, here—if we can slip a strike team in, we can cripple his reactor grid."

Steve crossed his arms.

"And bring his fury down on Earth twice as hard."

Natasha tilted her head, studying the data.

"Maybe. But if he's busy putting down rebellions, he may not have the bandwidth to retaliate at full strength."

Tony sighed.

"That's what passes for good news now? Maybe he's too busy crushing planets to kill us all?"

Steve held his gaze.

"If we don't try, he won't need to."

---

**Citadel – Nerissa's Chamber**

Nerissa sat beneath a blanket, small fingers twisting a scrap of fabric into knots.

Shawn entered quietly and sat beside her.

"Another vision?" he asked gently.

She nodded without looking up.

"They're coming," she whispered. "The man in iron…the woman in red…and something else."

Her eyes lifted to his, dark and endless.

"You."

He swallowed.

"What about me?"

She shivered.

"You're…breaking. Like glass."

He wrapped his arms around her, pressing her head to his chest.

"I am not breaking," he murmured. "I promise you."

But her voice was so soft, he almost couldn't hear it:

"You don't see it."

---

**Outer Colonies – Rhade Resistance Cell**

The ragged militia leader met with a tall figure cloaked in matte-black tactical armor.

"You're sure you can get this to Earth?" she demanded.

The figure's voice rasped through a voice modulator.

"I have contacts. Stark will want this intelligence. If your people can sabotage the Citadel's relay, you'll buy them time."

She hesitated.

"Time to do what?"

"To end this."

---

**Citadel – Talia's Resolve**

In the hush of the war room, Talia finally allowed herself to exhale.

*I swore an oath to protect him. Even from himself.*

She keyed a hidden comm frequency, the encryption borrowed from the very systems she helped build.

"This is General Talia," she whispered. "We must talk."
