Chapter 25 - 23.

Chapter 23: Update, Monsterferria, New Species, and New Synergies

Two days passed in the blink of an eye.

Chico dove into the Dungeon each morning with sharpened focus and returned each evening with tired limbs, full pouches, and another surge of strength.

His focus was on the 6th and 7th floors, he would go deeper soon.Battle Growth did its work, but… he noticed it. The gains were slowing down. He was getting stronger, but not as strong compared to 2 days ago.

Still, the numbers were nothing to scoff at:

And with dives came profits.

On both days, he hit the triple-digit kill mark without fail. One day brought in 213,000 valis. The next, 217,000. He was building a small fortune, and more importantly, an arsenal.

Each day also came with its own prize in the form of a Random Silver Gatcha Ticket, and the results were more than satisfying:

Marked (2.4 Rarity, 0.49% odds)

Uncommon Ability

Allows you to place marks on objects or creatures that you can monitor at any time. You are always aware of the location of the mark relative to you, as well as the condition of the bearer. You can have up to 10 marks at once, with this number increasing as you grow stronger.

&

Intermediate Mechanics (2.2 Rarity, 1.96% odds)

Uncommon Skill

You are a decent mechanic, capable of repairing most mundane machines when given proper tools. You possess a solid knowledge base of mechanical systems and how to construct basic machines from parts.

Of the two, Marked immediately sparked ideas.

A ring.

A necklace.

Something fragile…yet meaningful.

An item that, if broken, would call him instantly. The ability to track someone's position and well-being… That had potential. Especially for those he cared about.

But for now, he shelved the idea.

Because today wasn't about plans or profits.

It was about Monsterphilia.

——————————————————————

Chico opened his eyes and found himself face-to-face with Demeter. Her hair was tousled, her smile soft, and her presence as radiant as the morning light slipping through the curtains. They hadn't gotten out of bed yet, and neither seemed in a rush.

"Good morning," he whispered, kissing her gently.

"Mm…morning," she replied, returning it with a kiss of her own.

"Monsterphilia today, huh?"

"Mhm. We'll head out after breakfast. I want to visit every stall I can find. I heard they'll be having some more interesting foods." Her eyes twinkled with excitement.

Chico chuckled. "Guess I'll need to wear something loose."

He sat up, gave a long, satisfying stretch, and then turned back to her with a smirk. "What should I wear? I could go in full armor. Escort you like royalty."

Demeter raised a brow, amused. "You could wear whatever you like. I'll just be in a dress. A light blue one, I think."

Chico pictured it and smiled warmly. "You'll look wonderful in that color."

"I know," she teased, lifting her chin. "I look good in every color."

He caught her tone and leaned in. "No doubt. Though…I do love you in black."

"Oh?" she replied, tilting her head.

"Yeah…" he grinned, "but even more when you wear no color at all."

Demeter's eyes widened just slightly before a blush rose to her cheeks. She placed a gentle hand to her face.

"Oh dear~."

Chico gave her a wink, then kissed her forehead. "I'll get ready. I'm actually really excited for today."

Demeter smiled, rising from the bed as well, but she beat him to the bathroom. Chico watched her go, eyes full of affection…and a little bit of desire.

She walked slowly, hips swaying, and just before she disappeared, she let the straps of her nightgown fall. The silk garment slid off her shoulders and pooled at her feet in a whisper. Her bare back caught the light as she glanced at him, winked, then bent down, very slowly, to pick it up.

And with one last wink, she vanished into the bathroom.

Chico let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding.

"…Such a damn tease."

He shook his head with a grin, muttering to himself as he stood up. "I'll get her back for that…."

He made his way to his own room and headed for the shower, a very cold one.

Monsterphilia awaited.

And an eventful day would happen.

——————————————————————

Orario was alive today.

Music echoed down every street, flutes, drums, laughter layered into the chorus of a city celebrating.

MonsterFeria had arrived once more, and it brought with it color, food, and a kind of energy that hummed through the streets.

Streamers draped the buildings, and the air smelled like spices and sweetness, charred meat skewers, candied apples, roasted nuts, syrup-soaked pastries and much more.

Chico walked between the two women comfortably. Demeter, radiant in a flowing light blue dress, held his arm with easy affection.

On his other side, Persephone kept a slight distance, though not out of discomfort, her calm, unreadable expression often gave way to the faintest smirk when Chico made a dry comment or Demeter tugged him in a different direction.

Persephone wore something far simpler than her mother: an earth-toned sleeveless top and a short skirt with wrapped sandals, her honey-gold hair tied back into a loose tail. The outfit complemented her tanned skin and gave her an approachable, grounded presence, easy to mistake her for a traveling adventurer, if not for how comfortably she carried herself.

Their first stop was a classic, dart throws. The prizes weren't anything fancy, but the challenge made it fun. Demeter went first and hit nothing but air, each miss more dramatic than the last. Chico chuckled behind a closed fist while Persephone silently watched her adoptive mother toss the final dart into the frame instead of the board.

"My aim must be cursed," Demeter said, pouting slightly.

"No doubt, dear," Chico offered.

Persephone stepped forward next and, without any buildup, landed three perfect hits in a row. The vendor handed her a stuffed bear plush, which she promptly and wordlessly dropped into Demeter's arms.

Demeter grinned. "See? I trained her well."

"Pretty sure aim isn't inherited," Chico quipped.

From there, the trio moved through more of the festival. They sampled everything. Chico picked up a small basket of grilled skewers, beef, pork, even some mystery Dungeon meat (apparently it was pork, cooked from a Battle Boar), and passed them around. He fed Demeter a piece directly just to see her smile, and Persephone snatched one of the skewers with a smug glance that said she wasn't above playing along.

Later, they shared a fried dumpling plate, standing shoulder to shoulder in front of a flame-grilled snack booth. Demeter wiped sauce from Chico's cheek with her thumb, and Persephone elbowed him when he tried to hoard the last one.

"Just because you're growing fast doesn't mean you can hog all the food," she said dryly.

They passed by music performances, beast shows, even a few open-skill demonstrations. But eventually, they slowed near a stretch of artisan stalls.

Tables were lined with trinkets, handmade accessories, carved stones, and crystal pendants that sparkled in the light.

Chico stepped aside quietly while the two browsed, and when he returned, he held out two small, gift-wrapped boxes.

"For you two," he said plainly.

Demeter's eyes lit up. Persephone raised a brow as she accepted hers without a word.

Inside each box was a necklace, a teardrop of glass holding a small gemstone at the center. Identical in form, but personalized by color: pale sky blue for Persephone, amber-gold for Demeter.

"I marked them," Chico explained. "It's a new ability. If either of you ever get into trouble…damage the necklace. I'll know exactly where you are and come running."

Demeter didn't even hesitate. She set the box aside and leaned forward, pressing a kiss to his lips, her hands warm against his face. "I adore this," she whispered.

Persephone studied her pendant for a moment before slipping it over her neck. "You realize I'm still stronger than you," she said, dry amusement in her voice.

Chico gave her a lopsided smirk. "Yeah…for now."

She smiled, genuinely this time, and let the pendant rest over her chest.

The moment lingered. The three of them stood at the edge of the plaza, backs to the sun, the rhythm of the festival continuing all around them.

They weren't done yet.

In fact, the trio would gain some company.

——————————————————————

The sound of cheerful voices broke through the haze of festival buzz.

"Chico-kuuunn!"

Chico turned, blinking once before a bright smile met him head-on, Tiona Hiryute, bouncing on her heels as she waved enthusiastically, her green eyes practically glowing in the sun. Her signature outfit looked as lively as ever, and behind her stood two familiar faces: her twin sister Tione, sharp-eyed and calm, and Lefiya Viridis, standing slightly back with polite nerves clearly etched into her expression.

"Tiona-san," Chico greeted, smiling as he raised a hand in return. "Good to see you again."

Tione nodded. "Demeter-sama, Persephone-san, Sol-san."

"Good day," Lefiya added with a small bow. "Demeter-sama, Persephone-san, Sol-san."

Demeter gave a soft smile and returned the greeting with her usual warmth. "Ah, so these are the girls from Loki Familia I've heard about."

Persephone dipped her head respectfully. "Nice to see you all, again."

Chico introduced the two parties with a few casual lines, helping ease Lefiya's nerves and opening the group into natural conversation.

Tiona had no such hesitation. She quickly gravitated toward Chico's side, grinning wide as she started peppering him with questions.

"Have you seen some of the smaller monster stalls yet? One of them made an Imp do a handstand, on a spinning board!"

Chico laughed. "Now that is something we have to see. We've just been wandering so far."

"Well, let's fix that then!" she said brightly, linking arms with him without a second thought.

Chico was a bit surprised at the contact, but he didn't really mind, and shifting his gaze to Demeter showed that she didn't mind either.

No one in the group protested, Tione simply exhaled, her tone dry as usual. "Just remember, we're supposed to meet Loki and Ais later"

"The more the merrier," Persephone muttered under her breath. Chico caught the edge of a grin tugging at her mouth.

The six of them moved as a unit now, two trios that had become one. They hit more stalls, this time sticking closer to the heart of the festival.

They shared a plate of fried squid skewers, with Lefiya and Persephone turning their noses up at the texture while Tiona and Demeter happily devoured theirs. Tione stuck with roasted mushrooms and grilled fish, and Chico bounced between everything, gladly picking at leftovers.

At one stall, a simple reaction game drew them in, press the lighted button faster than your opponent.

Chico went up against Tiona on a whim, and the result was a blur of flashing lights and both of them laughing when she beat him by half a second. Though she definitely held back

"Fast hands," he admitted.

"You bet," Tiona shot back with a fist to his shoulder.

They shared easy grins after that, and their conversation flowed naturally, talking about Dungeon dives, favorite foods, even bad bathhouse experiences. Tiona was surprisingly easy to talk to, her energy grounded by her honesty. Chico found himself enjoying her company more than expected.

Demeter and Persephone noticed, of course, Demeter with a subtle smile, and Persephone with a slight side glance that said, hmm, interesting.

After an hour of walking, eating, and trading jokes, the group slowed near a crossroads.

Tiona stretched her arms overhead. "Coliseum should be opening up soon. The big events are starting." She turned to the group with her usual grin. "Wanna come with us? Loki's supposed to meet us there. Ais should be arriving too."

Chico glanced to his companions. Neither Demeter nor Persephone looked opposed, in fact, Demeter gave a small nod.

"Sounds fun," she said. "Let's go together."

The atmosphere subtly shifted as they neared the Coliseum. More Ganesha Familia members were stationed around the entrance, moving with focus, many of them geared up in armor, not the relaxed, ceremonial kind either. Real gear. Real weapons.

Tione narrowed her eyes. "Strange…Ganesha's people usually put on a show, but this looks like actual prep."

"Isn't that a little…strange?" Lefiya murmured.

"I was thinking the same," Persephone said, her tone quiet but alert.

Tiona turned toward the rest of the group. "So? Anyone else curious?"

The answer didn't come in words. Chico's eyes had sharpened slightly, and Persephone's posture had shifted, subtle, ready. Even Demeter looked mildly unsettled.

"We're going," Chico said, his voice calm.

Without missing a beat, he stepped in front of Demeter and, before she could question it, scooped her into a bridal carry.

"Chico!" she gasped, blushing in surprise. "You could've warned me—!"

"I could have," he smirked, already jogging.

Demeter huffed and buried her face in his shoulder, clearly flustered but not resisting. The others laughed, Persephone shook her head, and Tiona practically skipped to catch up.

And with that, the entire group made their way toward the Coliseum, laughter and tension mingling in the air, the rhythm of the festival still echoing behind them. Whatever was waiting, they'd see it together.

——————————————————————

The group didn't have to jog long.

Loki herself was ahead of the group, arms above her head, red hair loose and wild. She seemed to be shouting some orders.

Loki turned and noticed the large group. "Good timing! We've got ourselves a situation."

Tione crossed her arms. "What's going on, Loki?"

The goddess exhaled and jerked a thumb toward the Coliseum. "Monsters got loose. A few toughens, but nothing ya' can't handle. Someone broke them out." Her smile faded slightly. "We got Ais up top looking for any more."

"Oh, we can definitely help!" Tiona pumped up her fist, ready for some action. "C'mon guys! Let's go and beat up some monsters!"

"I'll wish you guys good hunting, I'll probably only slow you guys down." Chico gave Tiona a small apologetic smile, Persephone also would leave them to it, as she wished to protect her mother.

Tiona and the group gave a nod of understanding. And just like that, they were off. Tiona and Tione were easily able to launch to the closest roof, while Lefiya had to run a little, then jump.

As the original trio remained, another figure emerged through the outer gates, quick steps, half a dozen Guild workers behind her.

"Ariel!" Chico called, spotting the golden-blonde hair and sharp gaze immediately.

Ariel scanned the group, and once her eyes landed on him, she didn't hesitate. She jogged over, brows pinched. "Chico. Are you alright?"

He nodded. "Yeah, we're all good—"

Then, the ground rumbled beneath them.

It wasn't a light tremor. Dust shook loose from the Coliseum walls. The people still lingering in the area froze.

Chico's expression darkened. "…That doesn't sound good."

Then, from behind the outer ring of buildings, brick and stone exploded skyward. A massive green stalk burst from the rubble, thick, ridged, and topped with a swollen bulb that quivered before splitting open. Long, leaf-like appendages unfurled, flailing through the air. The monster was massive, plant-like, but undeniably monstrous.

Persephone's voice was tight. "I've…never seen anything like that."

"The Guild hasn't either," Ariel said immediately, staring in disbelief.

Loki cursed under her breath. "A new one… Dammit. This one's even bigger."

Chico stepped forward, watching the tendrils lash the air.

"…A new species, huh," he muttered, half to himself.

Then he turned, eyes locking onto Demeter and Persephone.

"Tiona-san, Tione-san, and Viridis-san…they're unarmed."

Persephone immediately caught on. "Don't tell me you're going."

Chico looked at her, and his gaze was steady, resolute.

"I trust you to protect the goddesses."

"I didn't say I couldn't, I'm saying you don't have to—"

"Let him go," Demeter said gently.

Persephone turned sharply toward her, but Demeter's expression held no fear.

"He'll return to us healthy. I trust him."

Chico's throat tightened for a second, but he nodded with steel behind it. "I will."

"You better," she said, stepping close. "Considering you made a promise…to us."

That made Ariel blink. Her gaze flicked from Demeter to Chico. A promise…to us?

Before she could voice it, Demeter leaned in, and kissed him.

Not on the cheek. Not soft or restrained. A deep, parting kiss. Warm and full of fire.

"For luck," she whispered against his lips.

When she stepped back, Chico's breath hitched.

But only for a second.

He turned sharply, boots pounding against the stone as he sprinted forward. In one smooth motion, he jumped, thanks to his Strong Legs, he launched himself up onto the rooftops.

He didn't look back.

Ariel stood frozen, her eyes on the space he left behind.

She'd seen the kiss. The way Demeter touched him. The way he responded.

Something flickered in her expression, not quite pain, but close. She blinked it away.

But Chico didn't notice.

He had a promise to keep.

And three people he had to reach and provide some assistance.

——————————————————————

Chico sprinted across the rooftops, his boots thudding against tile and stone. His breath was steady, his posture honed. He wasn't moving at full strength, not yet, but with the Ring of Swiftness' boost and his falna, he was moving as fast as he could. Fast enough to catch up. Fast enough to help.

His magic pulsed in his chest like a second heartbeat, but he didn't call on it. Not yet.

And especially not his wings.

He wasn't ready to reveal those. Not here. Not like this.

'I know this event…'

His thoughts sharpened as he moved, the city blurring at his sides. The details weren't perfectly clear, but he remembered the gist. A plant-like monster. Unnatural. Dragged from the Deep Floors, or something like it. A mistake. An experiment. Whatever it was, it was dangerous.

And it was here.

And three people he was just spending time with had gone off unarmed.

Tiona, Tione, and Lefiya.

He grit his teeth, gaze flicking forward. He'd give them whatever help he could. He had tools. He had options. And if the worst came…

He reached into his Item Inventory.

His fingers found two familiar shapes.

First: a jawbreaker, rough-edged and heavy for its size. Scrap Iron Candy.

He popped it into his mouth, and immediately recoiled. His face contorted.

"Ugh…like chewing nails and rust," he muttered, but he kept it in. He had to. The boost it provided was worth every bitter taste.

Then came the second item.

The Enchanted Golden Apple.

He pulled it from the inventory with hesitation. Just holding it made his palm tingle with energy. It pulsed with radiant warmth, vitality and regeneration rolled into one.

He stared at it for a moment as he ran, the wind rushing past him. The cooldown was steep. Over 8 days. It wasn't something to waste lightly.

But…

Better safe than sorry.

He brought it to his mouth.

And the flavor nearly stopped him in his tracks.

Sweet, rich. Vibrant and warm, like biting into sunlight, and love, and home.

It wasn't quite Demeter's cooking.

But it was close.

He swallowed hard, blinked the warmth from his eyes, and shoved the rest of the apple back into his inventory. Save it. For later.

The monster was in view now.

Green tendrils whipped through the air like vines. Each movement was wild and erratic, but controlled, alive with purpose. The thing was huge. Its head, or flower?, quivered and flexed, emitting a low, pulsing groan that echoed off the walls.

Chico narrowed his eyes.

Time for the final prep.

He reached toward his chest.

Armor: summon.

The response was immediate.

Power surged outward, encasing him in familiar strength. A soft hum filled his ears as the pieces materialized over his body, chestplate, greaves, gauntlets, helm.

Only this time…it wasn't the same armor as before.

What once shimmered silver now gleamed in a darker metallic grey, like tempered steel ready for war. His arms and legs bore an even brighter silver sheen mixed in with the darker metallic grey, the plating tighter, sleeker. The blue highlights had deepened into a darker navy, almost indigo, richer, more regal.

The helmet sealed with a faint click, his vision narrowing as his senses sharpened.

Upgraded. Evolved.

He felt it.

The weight was perfect.

The balance, flawless.

'Now I'm ready.'

He pushed forward with renewed speed, wind howling past him, eyes locked ahead. He would provide whatever assistance he could, tools, defense, backup.

And if things got out of hand…

He'd be ready for that too.

——————————————————————

~Tiona POV~

"Nothing here," I called out, hopping effortlessly from one rooftop to the next.

The wind tugged at the hem of my normal attire, but that didn't bother me. Tione followed close, gracefully, while Lefiya scrambled after them a short distance back, her expression tight with focus.

It was supposed to be a simple sweep. A quick recon. Just to make sure there weren't any loose monsters.

But something itched at the back of my neck.

I slowed slightly, scanning the rooftops. The festival noise in the distance had dulled, drowned beneath the strange quiet of this part of the district.

"…You feel that?" I asked, glancing back at my sister.

Tione frowned, her brow knitting. "Yeah. Something's off."

Then out of nowhere, the ground began to temor, and then—

*BOOM*

The plaza below cracked open like an egg. Stone burst upward, and something thick and green shot out of the ground, huge, gnarly, and alive.

"What the—!?"

"A new species…!?" Tione exclaimed right beside me.

It wasn't just some oversized plant. The thing had muscle under its vines, a sickly-slick bulb at its center, and writhing limbs like it wanted to hug and crush at the same time. One of those vines snapped toward a kid standing frozen in the street.

Not happening.

I didn't think. I just jumped.

Tione was right behind me.

We hit the ground hard, dust flying around my feet, and I punched the thing right in the side of its…head. Tione swept in low and jammed her palm into its side. The monster reeled back a bit, but…

"Ah…!" I winced, shaking out my fist. "That thing is harder than steel!"

"Stay sharp!" Tione snapped. "Lefiya! Hang back, don't let it near the civilians!"

"R-Right!" Lefiya called down from the rooftop.

We dove in again, dodging vines, kicking at its stalk, smashing into whatever looked soft. But it was like punching a tree covered in armor.

Two minutes in, and we hadn't even damaged it.

This thing wasn't normal.

Every hit we landed just made it angrier. It slammed the ground hard, cracking stone and nearly knocking us off our feet.

I heard Lefiya's voice above me, calling out to people. She was guiding them away, good. We needed them gone.

My blood was pumping, my knuckles ached, and we still hadn't slowed this monster down, we had to back off a bit. I was just about to yell to Tione that we needed weapons when I heard it—

"Tiona-san! Tione-san! Heads up!"

That voice. I knew that voice.

I turned, and there he was.

Chico.

He jumped down from the rooftop in similar armor I'd seen before, a darker grey with blue accents that made him look like a proper adventurer. And in his hands was one of the same blades he used to kill the Minotaur when I first met him, and on the other…the same stick we used to hit Bete back at the Hostess.

He landed right between Lefiya and us, arms wide, knees bent, dust kicking up around him.

"Chico…?" I breathed.

What was he doing here?

No, scratch that. I already knew.

He came to help us.

He chose to help us.

"Catch!" Chico threw the stick towards me, and the blade towards Tione. We caught it easily, it was a good throw.

We were now equipped, and it was all thanks to him.

His presence actually seemed to make the monster pause for the first time.

And just like that…

Support had come.

We were armed.

And we would take care of this thing.

——————————————————————

~Chico POV~

I made it in time.

Both Tiona and Tione had already gone hands-on with the monster, and the second I touched down, I handed them weapons, one of Demon King's Daggers for Tione, and the nearly unbreakable bat for Tione. I didn't have anything really suited for Lefiya-san…Nothing that would help her more than distance and support. She didn't strike me as the type to wield a sword well.

So for now…I'd do what I could to protect her.

"Lefiya, chant!" Tione called out, keeping the monster's attention with heavy strikes. "Start your spell!"

"I-I understand!" Lefiya's voice cracked a little, but she planted her feet and raised her staff. "S-Spirits of wind- !"

She barely got through the second line before I felt it.

The ground twitched. A pulse, a thud, and then—

Burst!

Another bulb shot out from the broken pavement.

My eyes snapped to it. Its aim was clear. Straight at Lefiya.

It moved fast.

Very fast.

I didn't think, I couldn't afford to.

I activated my Overdrive Core. Let energy flood through my muscles. I didn't put in everything…just enough to push my body to level 2 speeds. Any more and I'd risk burning out too soon.

I ran.

Not with grace. Not with strategy.

Just speed.

"Lefiya, brace!" I shouted.

She squeaked, eyes wide with panic as I came into her view.

I threw myself in front of her. One hand gripping the hilt of my single-edged dagger, the other braced behind the blade to reinforce the guard. I didn't know if I'd survive the hit, but if I could angle it just right, maybe I'd damage the damn thing when it struck me.

The monster faked a forward charge.

Then whipped its root-limb sideways.

I barely saw it move. Barely shifted my blade a few inches.

The tip scraped its skin, just a nick, and then—

WHAM!

It hit my side like a battering ram.

Air left my lungs. The world turned sideways.

I heard someone yell my name, Tiona, maybe?

Then my back cracked against a wall.

Everything blurred. My vision dimmed, but I was still conscious. Somehow.

I coughed.

Something came up. Tasted like blood.

I looked around, and right beside me, Lefiya-san hit the ground, hard.

She was curled up, eyes squeezed shut, body trembling. Worse shape than me. No armor.

Dammit…

I tried to move. My arms wouldn't budge.

Not like this. I couldn't fail here.

I wouldn't.

With a growl, I forced my arms under me. Pushed.

Every joint screamed, but I got to my knees.

Then my feet. It was just as difficult. The world tilted again, but I stayed up.

Heavy. Everything felt so heavy.

I looked ahead—and froze.

The monster that hit us…

It had bloomed.

Not with petals. With a mouth. With fangs. With saliva.

A jagged opening split its bulb wide, dripping and gaping, all pointed teeth and wet hunger.

It screeched. And it was getting closer.

Lefiya-san was still on the ground. Screaming? I think. My ears were ringing too hard to know.

But I wasn't going to let it get her.

This wasn't where I died. This wasn't where she died.

I raised my sword.

Wobbly. But steady enough.

My vision steadied. Strength surged into my legs. My hands clenched. My heartbeat roared.

Time to activate Desperation.

Because I didn't have much time left without it.

I was just about to release the switch when—

FWOOSH!

A gust of wind sliced through the air. A blur of golden hair and silver steel.

And then-SHNK.

The plant's head hit the ground, cleanly severed.

The monster's body convulsed once. Then collapsed.

I blinked.

And there she stood.

Ais Wallenstein.

Sword in hand. Wind at her back. Standing like salvation.

"…The Calvary is here," I muttered.

I didn't know whether to fall over again, or cry in relief.

But one thing was for sure.

We weren't out of the woods yet.

——————————————————————

~Ais Wallenstein POV~

I stood at the highest point of the Coliseum.

The wind brushed against my skin, light and fleeting. It carried the scent of sweat, stone, and blood. Far below, the crowd had thinned. Screams echoed from the streets. Something had gone wrong.

I already knew.

My eyes scanned the streets, every rooftop, every alley, every plume of displaced dust.

Movement.

I jumped down three stories, landing silently on a merchant roof. The monster I found there, a hard-armored lizard, didn't have time to roar before I split it down the middle. I kept moving.

Another: a troll. Big. Slow. I severed its tendons before it could swing. A third: A Bug Bear, a large brown creature. I killed it, too.

But then I felt it.

The ground trembled. A vibration I felt in my chest.

I turned toward it instantly. From behind a ring of buildings, something erupted. Dust burst into the air. A stalk, huge, green, bulbous, shot skyward. My eyes narrowed.

"…A new species."

I didn't wait.

"Tempest," I whispered.

Wind surged at my back as I leapt, gliding through the air, faster and faster, my hair whipping past my face.

From above, I could see the others now.

Tiona and Tione. They were fighting. Melee. Their usual way. But they weren't armed, no, wait. They were now. A male adventurer in full armor had handed them blades.

He was still near Lefiya.

I looked just in time to see the second plant-beast rise from the earth.

And then, strike.

The armored adventurer dashed forward, pushed past his limit. He took the brunt of the blow for Lefiya. But then it struck again.

Both of them were sent flying.

My heart clenched.

I didn't think.

I moved.

The wind beneath me screamed. My feet found a solid surface for only a moment before I launched again. I didn't blink, I couldn't.

I arrived just as the plant opened its fanged mouth again. It leaned down toward them, ready to end it.

Slice.

Its head dropped to the stone.

I landed silently, my blade humming from the motion.

I turned.

The armored adventurer was standing.

Bruised. Shaky. But standing.

I recognized him.

The one from the fifth floor. The one who'd slain the Minotaur…

The one who owed me a hundred jagamarukuns.

Thoughts for later.

I turned to Lefiya. She was still on the ground, eyes wide with shock. I wanted to check on her, but more monsters rose behind me. Three, maybe four. No time.

I looked back at the armored adventurer. "Look after Lefiya."

He nodded without question.

I faced forward again.

Then dashed into the fray.

My blade cut through the first monster cleanly, until CRACK.

My sword broke.

The upper half of the blade skidded across the stone.

"…I'm going to get yelled at."

No time to worry. I rotated my grip, using what remained of the blade, a jagged edge and the hilt. It wasn't perfect, but it was enough.

I continued cutting. I used wind to propel my strikes. To dodge. To break their balance.

But more kept coming.

And my blade wasn't enough anymore.

Then I heard her, Tione's voice, sharp and clear through the chaos:

"They're attracted to your magic, Ais!"

I paused for half a heartbeat. Then made my decision.

If they were coming for me, then I'd make sure they stayed away from Lefiya. And the other adventurer.

I pushed forward, deeper into the ruins and broken streets.

But—

A box rattled ahead.

I landed, crouching, and saw a child.

Alone. Hiding. Small hands covering her ears, trembling.

I froze.

I couldn't go further. Couldn't risk luring the monsters into her.

And I didn't have enough time or space to get her out.

I tightened my grip on the broken sword.

"…I'll hold them here."

If I had to become the eye of the storm, then I would.

No matter how many came.

——————————————————————

~Chico POV~

As soon as Ais-san disappeared into the fray, I dropped to Lefiya's side.

Her eyes were wide, dilated, and she wasn't responding. "Hey…Lefiya-san," I said, kneeling. No answer.

Blood ran from the corner of her mouth.

But then, a breath.

Ragged, shallow, but a breath all the same.

"Good," I whispered. "You're still with me."

I reached into my inventory, pulling out the golden apple, the same one I'd bitten earlier.

Rare. Precious. I hadn't planned on using it today, not fully. But that didn't matter anymore.

"You're hurt. Bad," I told her, holding it out. "Take a bite. It'll help."

She blinked, eyes trying to focus. She coughed again, blood spattering her lips. "W…what…?"

I didn't hesitate. "Ais Wallenstein-san told me to look after you."

Her eyes widened at the name. She turned her head, past me, searching.

"Ais…-san…" she whispered. And then she saw her.

Ais, alone in the street, holding back a tide of monsters with half a blade and pure will.

Lefiya's whole body trembled. "She's fighting…alone. And I…" Her hands curled into fists. "I'm useless…!"

Her voice cracked. Tears ran freely down her face.

I didn't let her spiral.

I grabbed her shoulders. Firm, but not harsh. She flinched, then looked at me, really looked at me. Her eyes were red, wet, filled with guilt.

"No," I said. "Right now… Ais Wallenstein needsyou."

Her lips parted. Her breathing stopped for a second.

"She…needs me?"

"Yes." I nodded once, sure and sharp. "She's not going to last alone. And I can't keep up with her. But you-you can help her. You have to."

I tore off a clean piece of the golden apple and gently placed it in her mouth.

"This'll make you feel better," I said. "Stronger."

She hesitated for only a second.

Then she bit down.

Two chews. A swallow.

Her eyes lit up.

I saw it, the color coming back to her face, the panic melting into clarity. Her breathing deepened. The pain faded. Her spirit returned.

And something else flickered behind her eyes.

Resolve.

"Good," I whispered. "Now…you bring the ice…"

I stood, hand already glowing.

"…and I'll bring the fire."

She nodded, no hesitation now, and leapt toward the plaza. She landed behind the vanguard, Tiona, Tione, and Ais, all of whom were fighting with everything they had.

Lefiya raised her hands.

I raised my hands.

She began to chant.

"White snow, harbinger of the end…"

And I joined her.

"All evil shall burn by my light…"

The monsters noticed immediately.

Every single one turned our way. Roots curled. Bulbs opened. Fangs clicked.

But the trio, those three warriors, they shifted formation. Tiona, grinning like a wild child. Tione, eyes burning with sharp control. And Ais, wind dancing around her like a living cloak.

They held the line.

Covered us.

Protected us.

We kept chanting.

Thirty seconds. The wind howled louder. My body was glowing, light pouring into the seams of my armor. I could feel my mana swell, brighter, heavier, hotter. Gold and white, both holy and destructive.

Forty seconds.

Lefiya's voice rose with clarity and force. She raised her hands. Frost shimmered around her like a halo.

She launched her spell.

Ice bloomed.

Not snow, ice. Spikes and storms, freezing winds and chains of crystal. Every single plant monster in the plaza froze in place, trapped in seconds.

The trio backed off, smart and fast.

It was my turn.

My fireball was massive, half the size of a building. I could barely keep it stable, the heat burning my arms even through the armor.

But I could feel it.

The spell was pure.

It was right.

"Burn!"

I let go.

The fireball soared.

And then—

BOOM.

The world lit gold.

It was like the sun had come to the plaza, just for a moment. Heat, light, and sacred flame swallowed the square.

Every frozen monster melted, shattered, and burned all at once.

Silence followed.

No more movement.

Just golden embers floating in the air…like fireflies.

I stood there, catching my breath, chest heaving. My arms felt like lead, my body like it was about to collapse.

But I stood tall.

Lefiya stepped beside me, dazed…but smiling.

We did it.

Together.

——————————————————————

~Lefiya POV~

I did it…

No, we did it.

Sol-san. Ais-san. Tiona-san. Tione-san.

They were incredible. Inspiring.

And me? I…I was able to help. I helped Ais-san. I wasn't dead weight. I wasn't just a burden to be protected or pitied. Sol-san told me she needed me, and I-I did my best.

And this time…my best was enough.

I could feel it, from my head to my toe. My cheeks hurt from smiling.

Ais-san approached, calm as ever, even with frost still evaporating from her shoulders, but before she could say anything, Tiona threw herself forward and grabbed both Sol-san and me into a giant, breath-stealing hug.

"THAT. WAS. AWESOME!" she shouted, swinging us both a little off the ground. "That magic combo was so cool! You two totally saved the day!"

Sol-san chuckled in her grip. I think I squeaked.

Then Ais-san stepped closer and looked right at me.

"Thank you," she said.

And then she added something that made my heart stop.

"You were just like Riveria."

I nearly fainted on the spot.

That meant so much. More than she could possibly know. I looked down, blinking hard, holding back another wave of tears, happy ones this time.

Tiona finally let go of me, though she kept Sol-san in her arms like he was a favorite plush toy. Her eyes sparkled with excitement.

Then I felt it building inside me…that little ember of courage.

I stepped forward.

"Ais-san, I…Ais-san, may I accompany you into the Dungeon?"

She looked at me.

No hesitation. No delay.

"Yeah…Let's go, Lefiya."

My breath caught in my throat.

Then Tiona grinned even wider. "I'm coming too! And Tione will! And Chico-kun will too!"

Sol-san laughed at that. His helmet shimmered, then vanished in a quiet hum.

He looked…a bit roughed up. There was dried blood on his lip and chin, his hair a little messy, but his eyes still had that calm, strange depth to them.

"I'd love to," he said, "but I'm still only Level One, remember—?"

And then he collapsed.

Tiona caught him easily, lowering herself to the ground with him resting on her lap.

He looked up at her with a faint blush. "This feels familiar…"

Tiona giggled. "You do like falling into my arms, huh?"

He smiled back.

Loki showed up then, a kid riding piggyback, but they leapt off and ran toward someone nearby. Probably their mother.

Loki placed her hands on her hips, looking at all of us.

"Alright, kiddies. Still got some work to do. Lefiya, if you're hurt, get the Guild to patch you up. Tione, Tiona, check underground. I've got a feeling in my gut, and I don't trust those weren't the only plant things. Ais, you're with me. We're scouting for stragglers."

Everyone nodded, no complaints.

Tiona gave Sol-san a sheepish smile. "Sorry, guess we gotta cut your reward short…"

He tilted his head, then gave her a soft chuckle. "My reward, huh…?"

He didn't press. "Thanks anyway."

Then he pulled the golden apple from earlier out of his inventory and took a bite.

Tiona's eyes sparkled. "Ooooh, what's that?"

He held it out to her with a smile. "Wanna try?"

She nodded eagerly, took a bite…

…and froze.

Her whole body locked up.

Then she chewed.

Then swallowed.

And then—"That's the best thing I've ever tasted!"

Sol-san seemed genuinely happy she liked it.

Then he turned toward Ais-san and bowed slightly.

"Thank you. For saving me earlier."

He paused, reached into his belt pouch, and pulled out a small handful of Valis.

"And this…is payment for last time. Added a little extra for today."

Ais-san blinked, then nodded quickly. Her expression stayed calm, but…I think she looked happy. Really happy.

That's when Loki leaned in, grinning. "Ehh? And what are you paying my Aizu for, hmm?"

Sol-san blinked once. "I may or may not have asked for a favor. And in return, promised to pay her enough for 100 juggamarkuns."

Silence.

And then Tione and Tiona burst into giggles.

He rubbed the back of his neck, clearly amused. "Seemed fair at the time."

Then he turned to leave. He bowed slightly to the group.

"I should get going."

He stepped in front of Tiona and held out a hand.

She tilted her head, then gasped. "Oh! The wooden stick!"

She handed it back with a big smile. "That was super fun."

He nodded in thanks, then moved to Tione.

She held out the dagger slowly, almost reluctant.

"Can I…keep it?"

Sol-san chuckled. "It's my best weapon. I really can't afford to give it away."

Tione pouted dramatically, but handed it over.

"Fine. But I'm borrowing it again someday."

He smiled, tucked it away, then turned…

To me.

He looked right at me.

"You did a good job, Lefiya-san."

My heart soared.

I opened my mouth to say something, anything-

But he was already walking away.

Back toward the coliseum.

Back to his goddess.

'Thank you…Chico-san.'

Rolling…

Rule 63 (3.3 Rarity, 0.83% odds)-Rare Trait-

"Where Banana?" Reality across all of existence has been twisted, warped, retconned and remade to make some men women.

'Uh oh…'

As soon as that thought passed…What I could only describe as reality shifting in real time took place…and then everything calmed down.

Oh gods. I am praying to the Gatcha gods that Bell remains a dude. If he changed there could be massive repercussions…probably. I wasn't exactly sure, but I hoped nonetheless.

I am now going to pretend this does not exist until it becomes relevant.

Anyway, besides that new…trait…

These were such amazing pulls! Oh he couldn't wait to get more ability slots. Just the idea of putting Overdrive Core, alongside Desperation, and Perfection? Oh the boosts had to be massive. He could probably take on a Goliath solo with all of these active!

Probably.

Maybe.

Okay, maybe not…yet.

Not to mention more mind reserves. He could already feel his energy capacity rising.

I walked slowly through the side streets, boots scuffing against stone, hands in my pockets. The streets were still a mess—ash drifting like fog, sounds of guards and Guild staff echoing through the alleys—but my mind was far away.

That plant-like monster…It had risen in the middle of a plaza. A festival. Around civilians. No warning.

If Ais-san hadn't arrived…

If I'd been slower…

If Lefiya-san hadn't stood back up…

This world was dangerous. But I already knew that. And it wasn't getting safer.

I passed through a shaded alley and dismissed my armor back into my inventory, exhaling. I didn't want to look like a walking wall of steel when I got back. That battle had taken enough attention as it was.

When I finally reached the Coliseum, I spotted the trio immediately: Demeter, Persephone, and Ariel. They stood near the entrance in a loose triangle, Demeter and Ariel mid-conversation.

I barely had time to wave before Ariel noticed me.

Our eyes met.

And she looked away.

That…was strange.

When I reached them, she turned slightly, gaze low. "I'm glad you're alright," she said quietly. And then she left.

No explanation. No smile. No teasing remark.

I blinked after her retreating figure, hand half-lifted, unsure if I should follow or not.

Demeter touched my arm gently. "She'll be fine. Just…give her a little time."

I glanced down at her hand, then nodded slowly. "Alright..." I was still confused. I…don't know what I did.

She stepped closer, reached up, and turned my face slightly. "You're bleeding."

I put my hand over hers. "I'm fine. Took a hit, but my armor absorbed most of it."

Still, my lip stung.

I reached into my inventory and pulled out the golden apple, half-eaten and miraculous. "This helped," I said, holding it up.

Demeter's eyes sparkled. "Can I?"

I handed it over without hesitation. She took a bite, eyes widening in delight. "Oh…that's good."

I grinned. "Not as good as your cooking, though."

That got a blush and a big, warm smile out of her. Worth it.

Persephone cleared her throat softly. "We should debrief. What exactly did you face?"

I nodded and gave them the full report, plant-based monsters that moved like serpents, hit even harder than Minotaurs, and shrugged off normal strikes. Many had bloomed with teeth, and all were drawn to magic like a moth to flame. I explained how I armed the twins, protected Lefiya, and barely held out before Ais Wallenstein herself intervened.

I described the moment Lefiya and I launched our magic at once. How the plaza lit up like dawn.

Persephone gave a slow nod, genuinely impressed. "You performed well."

Demeter smiled softly beside her. "I'm proud of you."

I let the praise linger a moment, then smirked. "Keep going. Praise me more."

They both chuckled.

With MonsterFeria canceled and the streets being cleared, we decided to wander for a while before heading back home. It felt nice. The adrenaline was fading, replaced by a subtle satisfaction.

That was when we stumbled across a small commotion.

A flash of white hair bolted past—an adventurer carrying a goddess.

"Bell Cranel…" I murmured.

And thank the gods he was still a boy…

Anyway.

He looked panicked but determined, holding an unconscious Hestia close. The crowd buzzed with whispers. Someone said he protected her from a monster in Daedalus Street…A white-haired ape?

Demeter frowned with worry, but Persephone placed a hand on her arm. "Lady Hestia will be alright. Just exhausted, I believe."

I listened to the rumors swirl. My chest felt…lighter.

Bell Cranel is getting stronger.

He really might be the hero this world needs.

I smiled to myself.

I'd keep my promise. If he ever needed me, and I was able, I'd be there.

As the duo and I turned toward home, I felt something calm settle in my heart. And also…something warm.

Tonight, I'd request a status update.

And tonight…I would relax.

——————————————————————

~Chico POV~

Demeter wrapped her arms around my chest like she was scared I'd vanish if she let go. Honestly, after the way she dragged me into bed and demanded cuddles, I was too exhausted to protest. Not that I wanted to.

Her hair was tucked under my chin. She was so warm.

"Comfortable?" I asked.

"Very," she murmured into my collarbone. "You're not allowed to fight in public again unless I get thirty minutes of uninterrupted snuggling afterward."

I chuckled. "That's oddly specific."

"You want to negotiate?"

"…Fair point."

She hummed with satisfaction and nuzzled in tighter. I held my status sheet beside us, reading it over and over again..

And oh boy.

My magic was just shy of S-rank.

It truly was amazing, how much I've grown. I was getting stronger, and I would only continue to grow.

But then I thought about my limits. I remembered… Bell Cranel had broken the Falna boundary. S, SS, and even SSS Rank. No one else had, to my knowledge. Was it possible for me?

Maybe.

Even if I didn't, I had something else just as powerful by my side. My Gatcha, my abilities, my traits, my skills, my items. Speaking of abilities…

I looked over my status again.

I had 17 total abilities. 17.

I have only been utilizing a few abilities now. Overdrive Core, which is a combined ability. Desperation, an ability that would boost me to surpass my limits in the face of danger. Holy Flames, the perfect magic against monsters. Battle Growth. A true cheat code in regards to the falna.

But I had only ever combined four abilities so far. I hadn't taken the time to explore the others.

Maybe now was the time.

"Hey, Demeter?" I asked softly.

"Mm?"

"Wanna help me with something?"

Her head lifted just enough to meet my eyes. "Of course. What is it?"

"I'm thinking of new ability combos. Now that I can combine three into one, I want to brainstorm some synergy ideas, but I only have 3 slots, so I just want to find some good pairs for now."

She perked up immediately, eyes lighting with interest. "You're asking me to help make something that'll help you in battle?"

I nodded.

"Oh this sounds fun." She sat up, dragging the blanket with her like a cloak. "Alright, before we begin..."

"How does this work? Do you have to combine the ability and name it? Does it automatically combine? You mentioned synergy, what about abilities that have little synergy, or no synergy at all?" Demeter was really serious about this. And that made me quite happy.

"I have an option to combine abilities, I just think of combining the ability and if they have synergy potential…then the two abilities will create a new one. As for little synergy or no synergy…I'm not sure. I haven't tested it too much. But I'm more than ready to find out." She raised some good points, this was why I wished to get her ideas.

"Let's start with abilities that would have good synergy."

The two had a small brainstorm, and chose the abilities Strength + Six Arms. The two combined and made…

——————————————————————

Six-Armed Vajra AsuraRarity: Elite

Base Abilities: Strength + Six Arms

You manifest two extra pairs of fully functional, superhumanly strong arms on top of your original pair—each capable of lifting vehicles, crushing stone, or wielding weapons with destructive force.

Your strength is evenly distributed across all six limbs, and each one retains full dexterity and control. With energy consumption, each arm can perform feats of brute force beyond what a single body could normally achieve.

Your body structure subtly reinforces itself to support this level of output, making you a walking powerhouse of martial dominance.

Should the user experience wrath…the ability grows stronger proportional to said wrath.

???

——————————————————————

"Six-Armed Vajra Asura…"

I said it aloud before I could even process it. The weight of the name alone had me frozen. I knew that name, that form.

Demeter, who'd been resting against me, stirred and leaned in closer. "What did you get?" she asked, voice curious but calm.

I blinked slowly, still taking it in. "It's…an elite ability. It's…an incredible ability"

That caught her attention. She sat up straighter. "And what does it do?"

I exhaled, the words coming out slow and steady, like I was still wrapping my head around it.

"It gives me 2 extra pairs of arms—fully functional, fully dexterous. All of them as strong as my original pair. It reinforces my body. By itself, I can lift heavy objects, punch through stone, and bend metal. If I put some mind to it, I'll get even stronger temporarily. And when I get angry…when I feel wrath…it makes me stronger. Proportionally stronger."

Demeter tilted her head, brows rising. "That's…incredible. But…why that name? And what's with the wrath part?"

I hesitated. It wasn't just the power. It was what it could represent.

"…Asura is a figure from…a legend. A god of wrath. Of unrelenting power. He wasn't exactly evil—but he was rage incarnate. He fought entire divine realms, powered by fury and vengeance. His body was a weapon. The 'Vajra' part—is a form if I am not mistaken. One that granted him 2 extra pairs of arms, and increased the strength of his original pair. He is said to be the strongest being in his respective legend."

Demeter blinked, lips slightly parted in thought. "A god of wrath…Six arms…Sounds dangerous."

I gave a weak chuckle. "Yeah. I think this ability may have the most potential out of any. But it comes with that…wild edge. I fear I could lose myself to wrath….and never return."

She laid a hand over mine, gentle and warm. "Then don't lose yourself. Make that fury yours, not the other way around."

I smiled at her, grateful. Then glanced at my palm.

"…Still. Hell of an ability."

I saw the extra section…but it was hidden. Perhaps if I gained an ability that had perfect synergy, it could reveal its true power.

"Let's try another one." We both looked over the list again.

The next pair we decided on was Conditioning + Battle Growth. The combination turned into…

——————————————————————

Accelerated Evolution

Rarity: Epic+

Base Abilities: Conditioning + Battle Growth

Your body is a hyper-efficient growth engine—constantly evolving, adapting, and strengthening with every strain and struggle. Every movement, every injury, every exertion is fuel for your permanent growth, reaching the biological peak.

When not in combat, your body conditions itself at an accelerated rate, gaining the benefits of training, rest, and physical exertion far faster than normal. You are always improving, even in stillness—but especially when pushed.

In battle, your growth efficiency spikes dramatically. The more intense the fight, the greater your immediate gains. Your mind sharpens, your instincts refine, and your body molds itself to meet the challenge. Each clash becomes an opportunity to surpass your former limits.

——————————————————————

I whispered the name under my breath.

"…Accelerated Evolution."

Demeter glanced over from where she was reclining against me, her head on my shoulder, her hand idly tracing slow lines across my chest.

"That sounds…" she tilted her head, "ominous. Or brilliant. Which is it?"

I took a moment to absorb the description. My eyes scanned the details again, and again. Each word brought excitement the more I read.

"It's…honestly insane," I finally said, my voice soft, awed. "It's like a supercharged version of Battle Growth but streamlined. More efficient."

Her fingers stilled. "Explain it to me."

"It means I grow. Constantly. Efficiently. Even when I'm resting, training, walking around…my body's always improving. But when I fight…that's where I really evolve."

"Permanently, right?" she asked, brows lifting.

I nodded slowly. "Permanently. Every bit of growth I get in a fight sticks. It's not a temporary boost. It's real. If I train for a week, it's like training for a month. If I come out of a battle, the gains will be even more so than before."

Demeter exhaled through her nose, a gentle sound of appreciation. "That's…remarkable." She turned slightly so she could see my expression better. "No. That's dangerous."

I gave her a little smile. "Only for the things that try to hurt me."

She hummed at that, brushing a strand of hair from my face. "So now your body is always improving… even when you're lazing around with me?"

"Exactly," I said, smirking slightly. "You're officially part of my growth process."

She chuckled, soft, warm, musical. "Then I guess I'll just have to keep you around…for your training, of course."

"Of course," I echoed with a laugh. "Strictly professional."

She leaned in and gave my cheek a slow kiss. "The way you already explained Battle Growth before was already crazy…but this is insanity, but if anyone deserves it…it's you."

I blinked at her…then smiled, letting the warmth sink in.

"…Thanks. I think this one will remain active for the time being."

We sat in silence for a moment, arms around each other. "Should we keep going?" I asked her.

"Let's try another one that could be very good." And once more the pair brainstormed.

In the end the pair decided on Barrier of Light + Holy Flames. Combining the two created…

——————————————————————

Sanctified AegisRarity: Elite

Base Abilities: Barrier of Light + Holy Flame

You conjure a radiant shield of pure holy flame—a burning wall of flame and light that guards against all things wicked. This barrier is not static; it roars with angelic fire, consuming darkness with divine purification

The Sanctified Aegis forms swiftly and expands with your will, cloaking yourself or allies in luminous fire. Curses, hexes, and spiritual afflictions are incinerated on contact, unable to take root. Unholy beings—undead, demonic, cursed, or corrupted—are scorched simply by nearing its blaze, and the damage they suffer intensifies the longer they remain in range. Dark-aligned magic weakens as it approaches, unraveling in the heat of divine light. Even attacks that do break through the barrier find their strength diminished.

In moments of need, the aegis can erupt outward in a pulse of burning light, repelling enemies and creating space through purifying flame.

This is no passive shield—it is a divine protection, a radiant bastion that judges all who approach.

——————————————————————

Chico exhaled slowly, the warmth of Demeter pressed against his side. "Sanctified Aegis," he murmured. "It's a holy flame barrier…burns curses, weakens dark magic, and sears unholy creatures. It's not just defense, it bites back."

Demeter blinked, clearly impressed. "That sounds quite valuable in the dungeon."

He chuckled, then let out a yawn, voice dipping with the pull of sleep. "Today was…a lot. But before all the monster madness, I was actually having fun…with you and Persephone. I'd like to do that again, go out together."

Demeter smiled softly, brushing his hair back. "Then we will. Just say when."

With that, the two sank deeper into the bed, limbs tangled, hearts at ease. Whatever came next…could wait until morning.
