Chapter 55 - CHAPTER 54: PROPOSAL

A Call That Changed Everything

Rose sat in her office, flipping through old case files absentmindedly. Though work had resumed, her heart still carried the weight of all that had happened. She sighed, rubbing her temples when suddenly—her phone rang.

She glanced at the screen. Alexander Bluestone.

A small smile tugged at her lips as she answered, "Well, well, if it isn't the man who's too busy bringing criminals to their knees. To what do I owe the honor of this call, Mr. Alexander?"

His low chuckle came through the line. "You're making it sound like I don't have time for my beautiful Girlfriend. But tonight, I'm making time."

"Tonight?" she asked, intrigued.

"Yes," Alexander said smoothly. "Candlelight dinner. Just you and me. I've already picked the perfect place. Seven o'clock. Don't be late."

Rose felt warmth spread through her chest. He always had this way of making her heart race. "And where exactly is this 'perfect place'?"

"You'll see when you get there," he teased. "But I expect you to look stunning, as always."

Rose smirked. "Oh? Am I supposed to take that as a challenge?"

He chuckled. "Not a challenge—just a fact."

She rolled her eyes playfully. "Fine, fine. I'll be there."

"Good girl," he murmured before hanging up.

She stared at her phone for a moment, biting her lip. She knew tonight was going to be special.

An Unforgettable Entrance

Alexander sat at the dimly lit restaurant, sipping on his wine. He wore a dark green blazer over a sleek black suit, exuding effortless confidence. He checked the time—seven sharp.

And then… she arrived.

The moment Rose stepped in, the entire room seemed to fade away.

She wore a stunning, tight full-sleeved red body wrap dress, hugging her figure like it was made for her. The pendant he had given her rested just above her collarbone, shimmering under the soft light, while the bracelet on her wrist gleamed like a promise. Her hair was left open, cascading in waves, framing her face perfectly.

Alexander slowly set his glass down, his lips curving into a smirk as she walked toward him. His sharp eyes raked over her, taking in every breathtaking detail.

As she approached, he stood up, pulling out her chair for her. But instead of letting her sit right away, he leaned in close, his voice a sultry whisper,

"You do realize, Miss Rose, that you've just given every woman in this restaurant an inferiority complex."

Her cheeks flushed instantly. She scoffed, trying to keep her composure. "You're unbelievable."

"And you're irresistible," he countered effortlessly.

She rolled her eyes but couldn't hide the smile playing on her lips. "Smooth as ever, Mr. Boyfriend."

"Only when it comes to you," he said, finally letting her sit.

A Conversation of Hearts

As the dinner progressed, the teasing settled into something deeper.

Alexander leaned forward, swirling his wine glass lazily. "So, tell me, Rose… what do you like most about me?"

She laughed, shaking her head. "That's such a loaded question."

"Is it?" He arched a brow. "Humor me."

She sighed, looking at him seriously. "Alright… I love the way you see through everything. You always understand people—their strengths, their weaknesses, their pain. Even when you act cold, you care more than you let on. You push people to be stronger, to be better. And…"

She hesitated before meeting his gaze. "You saved me, Alexander. You pulled me out of the abyss when I was falling. After you… after what happened in my childhood, I thought I lost myself. But you—" She exhaled deeply. "You helped me heal. You made me move forward. If it weren't for you… I don't know where I'd be."

A rare softness flickered in Alexander's eyes. He set his glass down, reaching across the table to take her hand. "You give me too much credit, love. I just did what any man would do for the woman he cares about."

She squeezed his hand. "No, not any man. You."

Alexander smirked but didn't let go of her hand. "Your turn," she said. "What do you like about me?"

He leaned back, tilting his head. "Where do I even begin?"

She rolled her eyes. "Don't start with your usual arrogance."

He chuckled. "Alright, alright. I like that you challenge me. You don't just follow orders or bend to my will. You make me think. Make me question things." He paused, then added in a quieter voice, "And you make me feel."

Rose's breath hitched slightly at that.

"I never saw myself as a man who needed love," Alexander admitted. "But with you… I don't need to be anything else. Just myself."

A warm silence settled between them.

"You really are impossible," she whispered, a soft smile on her lips.

"And yet, you're still here," he smirked.

She laughed. "Yeah… I am."

Under the Stars

After dinner, Alexander drove her to a secluded park. The city's lights twinkled in the distance, but here, everything was quiet. Peaceful. They sat on a bench, staring up at the sky.

"Have you ever thought about the future?" Rose asked.

Alexander glanced at her. "I have. More than you'd think."

"What do you see?" she asked curiously.

He smirked. "You."

Her heart skipped a beat. "Alexander…"

"I mean it," he said. "There was a time when I only lived for the thrill, for the chase. But now… the future isn't just about the game anymore. It's about having someone to share it with."

She smiled, looking away to hide the tears forming in her eyes. "You really know how to make a girl feel special."

"Only when it's you," he murmured.

Then, before she could react, Alexander stood up. He reached into his pocket and—without hesitation—dropped to one knee.

Rose gasped.

In his hand was a stunning wedding ring, shimmering under the moonlight.

"Rose," he said, his voice steady, "marry me."

Tears welled in her eyes as she covered her mouth in shock. "Oh my word!!!"

Alexander smirked. "I take it that's a yes?"

She nodded frantically, her voice breaking. "Yes! A thousand times, yes!"

She threw herself into his arms, sobbing against his shoulder. Alexander held her tightly, whispering,

"You're mine now."

She laughed through her tears. "And you're mine too, Alexander."

A Night to Remember

He escorted her home, but as she reached the door, she hesitated. Then, gathering her courage, she turned to him.

"Would you like to come inside?"

Alexander arched a brow. "Are you inviting me in?"

She swallowed hard. "Y-Yes."

He smirked and stepped inside, closing the door behind him. And then, in a swift motion, he pinned her against the wall.

Rose gasped, but this time… she wasn't afraid. She looked up at him, her heart pounding—not with fear, but anticipation.

Alexander smirked. "You're not scared this time… are you?"

She swallowed hard. "No."

"Good."

And then—he kissed her.

It was deep, intense, leaving her breathless. When he finally pulled away, she stood there, completely flustered, staring at the ground.

"Goodnight, fiancée," he whispered against her ear, before stepping back and leaving.

As the door closed, Rose placed a hand over her racing heart.

She was engaged.

And she had never been happier.

As For Alexander? He Was The Happiest Man On The Planet Now...….
