Chapter 55 - PROLOGUE: THE NEW BEGINNING

A small briefing room inside Jujutsu High. The fluorescent lights buzzed softly, casting a pale glow across the wooden table where three of the strongest sorcerers currently sat—each with their own unique brand of intensity.

Sat atop the table with his usual disregard for rules was Satoru Gojo, his blindfold slightly askew, revealing just enough of his eyes to give away the smug grin on his face.

Standing beside the window with her arms folded was Mei Mei, her long silver hair neatly tied, calm and composed as always.

Near the door, back pressed against the wall and her expression brimming with skepticism, stood Utahime Iori, hands on her hips.

"So..." Gojo drawled, breaking the silence, "we're actually trusting Megumi with this, huh? Recovering one of Ryoumen Sukuna's fingers isn't exactly... training wheels level."

Utahime rolled her eyes. "He's capable. He's disciplined. Unlike some people I know." She shot him a glare.

Mei Mei remained impassive. "The higher-ups are testing the waters. Sukuna's finger is a high-grade cursed object. Retrieving it will test whether Megumi can operate alone under pressure."

Gojo leaned forward. "I'm not saying he can't do it. I'm just saying, if anything happens, I'll blame both of you and claim I was against this from the start."

"Gojo," Utahime snapped, "You signed the authorization!"

"Yeah, yeah." Gojo waved a hand, chuckling. "Still. It's Megumi. He's serious. He'll probably brood his way through the mission and still ace it."

Mei Mei finally spoke again, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face. "There are whispers that Sukuna's cursed energy has begun attracting lower-level curses toward the school site. He'll have to deal with more than just tracking the finger."

Utahime looked worried now. "He's strong, but he's still a student."

Gojo's expression shifted—just slightly. Behind his easy grin was a quiet confidence. "If it's Megumi… I trust him. Besides—he's not going alone."

Both women turned to him sharply.

Gojo stood up, sliding his blindfold back into place with a smirk. "I sent someone to keep an eye on him. Just in case."
