Chapter 1 - A New Beginning

Lilith walked down the cold corridor leading to the principal's office. It was her first day at this university. While her previous institution provided her with career security, she chose Mountainridge University as a fresh start away from her hometown.

She was dressed in a sleek silver-grey shirt and a long black coat, creating a stark contrast against the faded university walls. A glance at her watch preceded her knock— a small, practiced gesture that signified her punctuality and poise. Her brown eyes, steady and observant behind silver-framed glasses, scanned the surroundings as she adjusted her stance and waited.

Soon, a baritone voice invited her to enter. Lilith stepped inside the principal's office, a space that beautifully blended timeless academia with personal history. Sepia-toned portraits of past university founders adorned the paneled walls, while the calming scent of old books filled the air. A grandfather clock ticked rhythmically in the corner, creating a soothing ambiance.

The principal, an elderly man with neatly combed silver hair, greeted her warmly. He wore wire-rimmed spectacles perched on his nose and a charcoal tweed blazer. Beneath it, a slightly wrinkled pale blue shirt peeked out, paired with a deep maroon silk tie. His wool trousers, a warm chestnut brown, matched the season's mood, complemented by polished black Oxford shoes.

He stood up to welcome Lilith. "Professor Blackthorne, it's good to see you again. Please take a seat," he said, shaking her hand.

"Principal Blythe," Lilith replied in greeting, shaking his hand before sitting down in front of him.

Principal Reginald Blythe was a respected figure in the academic world, known for his insightful guidance to various researchers over the years. He held numerous degrees and awards for his contributions to the field of Physics. However, as he grew older, he transitioned from research to become the principal of Mountainridge University. His life now revolved around the university and his wife, Helen Blythe.

"So, Professor Blackthorne, today marks your first day at this university. You have classes assigned, and I've already taken you on a tour. Please feel free to ask any questions if you have any doubts," Principal Blythe offered. It was her first day at this university. The last university provided her career security, but she chose Mountainridge to move away from her hometown.

"I don't have any query, Principal Blythe," Lilith said as she stood up. "I am glad to have you at the university, Professor Blackthorne," Principal Blythe said with a smile.
