Chapter 3 - Awakening

Xie Yulong had just turned six.

The once-waddling, wide-eyed toddler was now a sharp little boy, tall for his age, with snow-white hair down to his neck and clear crimson eyes that shimmered under sunlight. His days passed like a dream—loving parents, homegrown food, village laughter, and endless noises from his eccentric father.

Every morning, his mother made him memorize soul beast classifications. Every night, his father had him practicing soul force breathing techniques under the stars. The courtyard often echoed with their laughter and mild bickering.

Life was... peaceful.

But peace doesn't last long in a world where Spirit Masters reign.

On the morning of his birthday, a familiar knock came at the gate. A short, stocky old man stood there, his beard streaked with gray, leaning slightly on a carved wooden staff.

> "Little Yulong! Time to awaken your Martial Soul!"

He was the village chief, affectionately known by all as Grandpa Wu, though his full name was Wu Minghai.

At the Courtyard Gate

Lan Xueyao gently adjusted Yulong's robe.

> "Don't feel pressured when you awaken… ," she said with a serene smile.

> "Try not to scare the instructor," Tianyan added, crouching with a grin. "If you inherit my Fire Dragon, try not to burn the testing stones."

> "Or freeze them," Xueyao added dryly.

> "Right. She started it," Tianyan pointed at her.

> "You started it fourty years ago—"

> "Okay, let's not traumatize me before the ceremony," Yulong muttered with an embarrassed look.

His parents hugged him tight, worry glinting beneath their eyes. After all, they were both Title Douluo. He could inherit either a Fire Dragon or Ice Dragon—both top-tier martial souls on par with the Clear Sky Hammer. Everything should be okay unless he awakens a martial soul that evolved wrong way.

It should be safe… right?

Awakening Hall

The hall wasn't grand—an old circular building covered in spirit vine moss—but inside, it thrummed with energy.

Twelve children had gathered inside, including Yulong. Most looked nervous, shifting awkwardly in place.

At the center stood a tall, lean man in his twenties with a sharp, well-formed jaw, slightly long brown hair, and light green eyes that gave off a warm, charismatic glow.

> "Welcome, kids. I am Su Yuntao, Spirit Hall's assigned Spirit Grandmaster for this region. Today, I'll be awakening your Martial Souls."

Xie Yulong's eyes widened thinking.

> "Wait… SU YUNTAO?! The guy who awakened Tang San? The default NPC in every fanfic awakening scene? I'm meeting a legend!"

Yulong was both amazed and amused.

The Ceremony Begins

Six black stones were arranged in a circle.

Su Yuntao's body suddenly surged with soul power. "Lone Wolf!"

His muscles bulged, claws extended, and green light flashed in his eyes—he had activated his Martial Soul.

> "Everyone, step in one by one. When I signal, stand still and release your breath."

One by one, the children stepped forward. One by one, they awakened… disappointment.

> "Wood hoe." "Shovel." "Basket." "Frying pan…?"

Each child awakened a tool of survival. All of them lacked soul power. Su Yuntao sighed in visible disappointed.

> "Next."

Soon it's Xie Yulong's Turn

Yulong stepped into the circle, still calm, though inside...

> "System, don't fail me now."

Then—

> Ding! Life Choices System activated.

Two choices appeared before him:

> "...TITLE. IDIOT?!! Are you threatening me??!"

> "You really are something else, System. You built suspense, made me wait six years, and THIS is your idea of drama?"

> "Xie Yulong?" Su Yuntao prompted, confused by the boy's frozen face.

> "Whatever. Option one, of course! Idiot, my foot!"

He stepped forward, and the instant his feet hit the edge of the circle—

> "They can't spy on me! No Sea God! No Asura God! NOT EVEN THE 'Tang San Plot Armor Surveillance Cam'!"

His tiny body shivered—this time not from fear, but sheer delight.

> "This... this is perfect."

On the side su yuntao seeing him laughing like this thought if he had gone insane from pressure. He repeated and told him to step in the circle.Comming back to sense he hurriedly stepped into the circle blushingly.

As soon as Xie Yulong stepped into the circle, a surge of pressure pressed down like a mountain, suffocating yet exhilarating.

Suddenly, an agonizing pain exploded through his entire body. His limbs trembled uncontrollably, his vision blurred, and a fierce burning sensation tore through his soul. The world around him seemed to twist and writhe as if reality itself was bending.

Xie Yulong clenched his teeth and gritted his way through the torment. His face contorted with agony, sweat pouring down his brow, but his spirit remained unbroken.

Then, as the pain reached its peak, a majestic figure appeared behind him: a colossal Dragon —its body a magnificent display of nine shimmering colors—looming over the hall with divine authority. The Dragon lifted its massive head and let out a deafening roar that reverberated through the very soul of the continent.

Every soul beast in the vast lands trembled, they heard the roar in their soul, their hearts pounding in response to the Dragon God's call.

The sheer force of this divine roar made Su Yuntao drop to his knees, eyes wide in shock.

Far outside the hall, hidden behind veils of trees, Xie Yulong's parents felt the trembling ground and the overwhelming presence. Their eyes locked in disbelief—their son's soul was not only powerful, it was divine.

They knew instantly: this was no ordinary Martial Soul. This was a divine Martial Soul because they felt their martial soul cowering.

Xie tianyan said,"It seems his martial soul mutated and it's the mutation in the good way"

"It seems."Lan xueyao replied.

As Su Yuntao slowly recovered his composure, he tremblingly approached the boy who is panting after what seems like going through extreme pain.

"This… this is a top-grade Martial Soul," he whispered, his voice barely above a breath."(After all he is the legendary su yuntao, the default NPC of all MC in Fanfiction. It would be wrong if he gets the result correct.)

 "Check your soul power."

Xie Yulong raised the Soul Sensing Orb. The orb glowed brilliantly, and the reading appeared: Level 10 Innate Soul Power—the highest measurable by this tool.

Su Yuntao said excited "Level 10… that's impressive. In the past two days, I've encountered two innate Level 10 soul powers. But compared to the Blue Silver Grass awakened by the other candidate.... that soul is nothing compared to yours."

He shook his head and asked. "There's no record of this Martial Soul anywhere. What will you name it?"

Without hesitation, Xie Yulong's voice rang out clear and proud:

"Dragon God."

Su Yuntao smiled wryly. "Domineering name. Fitting for a soul like this."

He then extended an invitation. "With such a soul, the Spirit Hall would welcome you with open arms. You should come join us."

Xie Yulong met his gaze steadily. "No. Thanks but I have no intention in joining any faction."

Su Yuntao's expression shifted to one of urgency. "Think carefully. The Spirit Hall offers resources and protection no one else can match."

Xie Yulong shook his head firmly.

Seeing the resolve in the boy's eyes, Su Yuntao sighed. "Very well." Secretly thinking"I have to report this to the higher-ups after goin

g back"

Then said,

". Before I leave, take this."

He handed Xie Yulong a letter sealed with the Spirit Hall's insignia. "A recommendation to the Nuoding Academy. You will need it."

Xie Yulong accepted the letter without a word.
