Chapter 20:

Spars and Seraphs

'Thinking'

"Talking"

"Talking"

- Sakai Compound -

-Sora Sakai-

The last few days of Asia's stay at the compound were some of the calmest moments I've had the pleasure of experiencing. The innocent yet curious nature of her whenever there's something new for her to true or taste made even our most basic meals together an enjoyable experience.

In the small amount of time I'd spend joining her out on the fields, I got to learn a bit more about her life before ending up with the Fallen.

From simple things like how she loved to join the other children in the Church-run orphanages whenever they got to take trips to nearby parks and pick flowers together, to her days spent learning how to awaken her Sacred Gear and the awe it brought whenever she would use its powers to heal someone.

While I never said anything, it definitely felt to me like her life could be summed up in a single word: Controlled.

The minute she awakened the Twilight Healing, her every action and desire became overwritten by the Church's wish to turn her into a Holy Maiden and gather more follows underneath her banner. Using her innocent and trusting nature to build up an image in peoples minds which would draw in flocks of new believers, with every last one of them hoping to receiving healing from her in return for their devotion.

A rather simple, but effective method that I would likely applaud if I didn't get to meet the wonderful girl they used as their pawn to make it all happen.

'Technically there are worse ways to live,' I mentally capitulate while working on the latest potion inside of my workshop. The process of testing and creating new potions is a rather simple thing to do after the first few attempts, then it's just a matter of gathering new ingredients to see what they can create before allowing my mind to wander.

'She was fed, clothed, and protected from the true horrors of the world while being shown as much kindness -even if it was false- as the Church could provide her in return for her services.'

From what I could read in-between the comments she made about life under the Church's thumb, the priests, nuns, bishops, and other members of the clergy all treated her as if she was a saint before the knowledge of her ability to heal Devils came out.

'Outside of witnessing rather traumatic injuries that she needed to heal, Asia never had to see the look on a person's face as they died, or feel the gut-wrenching sensation after being forced to kill someone just to survive. Even simple things like racist, classism, and religious persecution from people of other faiths were kept as far away from her as possible.'

I guess there are actually two words in which to describe her life, not just one.

Sheltered and Controlled.

Again, not the worst thing in the world. But not the best, either.

Frowning at the direction my thoughts are going, I turn my focus back onto my potions as I finish the latest test of ingredients.

[Potion of Restore Health] (Moderate)

Heals a significant portion of the consumer's health.

Better than what I've been making before, but the rarer ingredients required to make them are only dropping in small quantities within the Dungeons. Too few drop at a decent enough rate for me to mass produce them, and those that I can make I need to keep on hand now that events are picking up again.

After Kuroka's visit, it became clear to me that I haven't been as watchful of the ripples I've been making in the world as I should be. I knew that there was no way of keeping my performance in the Rating Game against Riser a secret, but I hadn't expected people to act on that information so soon.

An oversight on my part, and one that can't happen again.

I got lucky with Kuroka, extremely lucky; because if it had been anyone else sent by the Khaos Brigade, anyone at all…I might not have walked away from that conversation alive.

Leveled Up - Profession:

[Profession: Potioneer] - Lvl. 21 (Novice)

Another small step in the right direction. But not enough to make a huge impact.

While grinding out levels in the Dungeons is an absolute must at this point, I also need to practice using the abilities I already have before I start trying to gain new ones. I've barely even begun to scratch the surface of what my Monk Class can do, and now I've got Lightning Magic from Akeno to practice with.

'Which reminds me, I'm going to be late.' Taking a quick glance at my watch, I gather up the potions ingredients I haven't gotten to test out yet and throw them back into my Inventory for later. Stuffing the newly crafted health potion in with the rest of it, I quickly close the door to the workshop and head towards the stairs.

After having spoken with Asia and spent some private time with Juuichi, I happened to pass by Raynare and Kalawarner as they were coming back from one of their sparring sessions in the basement.

Seeing them come up the stairs exhausted, yet satisfied with their training made me realize that I could use the last few days together to practice my skills with them.

Luckily, they both were more than happy to spend time together and immediately agreed to a friendly spar. The fact that it's going to be two-on-one should make it all the more interesting with me limiting what abilities I can use to only my Monk skills.

- Compound Basement -

"Great, you're both here!" I greet the two Fallen warmly as soon as I step off the stairs and into the basement.

The room itself is rather bare in terms of furniture, with only cushioned mats lining the cement floors that were likely brought in by the Servants to prevent any unnecessary damage from a bad fall or a rough takedown.

With some training weights in one corner of the room, and large light-fixtures built into the ceiling to provide the entire room with enough light, there's really nothing else but the basic essentials that a person could need to transform a formerly empty basement into a decent sparring room.

"So how do you both want to do this?" I ask as we move towards the center of the room. Taking a moment to admire the skin-tight exorcist-like bodysuits that look painted on their voluptuous bodies. "An all-out fight until one side in unable to continue, or just until first blood is drawn?"

Raynare glances at Kalawarner who shrugs. "We'll start with first blood, then see how ready you are to continue once we've kicked your butt." She teases with a grin.

'[Observe].'

Raynare - Level 29 | Kalawarner - Level 27

Sora Sakai - Level 92 [36%] - Summoner

Human - Sacred Gear User

Oh, this is going to be so much fun.

"Heh, if that's what you think," I chucklingly reply as I shrug off my top, leaving only my pants on and smirking at the lust-filled looks they send me. "Then maybe I haven't been as rough on you as I should have; because it looks like I'm going to have to spank you both rather hard to show you who the real winner is going to be."

A slight shiver runs through Kalawarner's body as the kinky submissive tries not to let the image my words create get to her, while Raynare simply rolls her eyes with a chuckle at her girlfriend's actions.

"Begin!"

As soon as I call out for the match to start, the Fallen both conjure their own weapons of light as they spread their four wings and take flight. Instead of the usual spear, Kalawarner creates a broadsword that looks eerily reminiscent of what I remember Baraqiel using in the anime. At her side, Raynare creates three floating light spears above her right hand that she raises threateningly.

'So, Kalawarner's decided to become a close-range fighter while Raynare supports her from long-range? Not a bad tactic.' It's rather impressive to see them growing out of their traditional roles, with most Fallen I've heard about sticking to simply throwing Light Spears repeatedly before trying to rush in for a stab as a last resort. 'But let's see how well they work together.'

Smirking at the thought of finally having a good fight after several days of mind-numbing Dungeon runs and spending time in my workshop making potions, I quickly race towards Kalawarner as she flies down at me. The glowing edge of her broadsword swinging in an overhead arc as my glowing golden palm comes up to meet it halfway.

'[Monk: Ki Strike]' Using the Ki energy coating my palm I smash through her light construct like it's made of glass, causing Kalawarner's eyes to widen in shock at the sudden loss of her weapon.

Before I have time to counterattack, I jump back to dodge the three light spears from Raynare that pierce through the cushioned mats and bury into the concrete floors. 'Heh, guess they're not holding back.'

Their ability to wield light magic is actually quite impressive, the constructs they can create are able to be made weak enough that they'll act more as blunt weapons, or sharpened to such a degree that they can pierce through solid rock with relative ease.

Seeing Kalawarner join Raynare back in the air using their crow-like wings to stay afloat near the ceiling, I send out a [Monk: Ki Burst] to separate them while racing towards Raynare. Of the two, it's better that I get her out of the way first so that I don't have to worry about being attacked from odd angles while facing Kalawarner in one-on-one close combat.

While I've limited myself to using only Monk Class abilities, thereby keeping me from activating my [Flight] skill, I can still use the surrounding to my advantage.

As Kalawarner comes flying down with another broadsword in hand, I wait until she takes a diagonal swing at me before leaning out of the way, barely missing the attack my inches as I use my momentum to spin around a nail her in the side with a kick.

"OOF!" The bluenette exclaims as she goes skidding across the mats, once again losing control of her weapon as it breaks apart into motes of light. Struggling to get back onto her feet from the rather heavy blow, I can see her wincing as she clutches her side tenderly.

'That's gonna bruise something nasty.' I grimace. Even when I hold back against them, the difference in our levels makes the slightest hits potentially lethal if I'm not careful. 'Looks like I'll need to heal them both up and apologize for this afterwards, likely with a lot of massages.'

At least with Kalawarner now momentarily out of the way, I can focus my attention on Raynare as she sends another small hail of light spears down at my position. The slight vibration in the air as I dodge them lets me know she didn't like watching her girlfriend get kicked across the basement.

With my options limited in terms of reaching her as long as she's up near the ceiling, I'll have to time this perfectly if I want a chance of winning without dragging our fight out.

'[Monk: Ki Burst]' Sending a torrent of golden Ki energy towards the flying black-haired sadist, I intentionally miss her by the slightest margins. The brief look of her confusion as the blast misses is almost as funny as the wide-eyed look she gets once it makes contact with the light fixture she's flown too close to.

In a blinding flash of light and a shower of sparks, the ceiling light explodes on contact with the burst of energy. The sudden intense light so close her face causes Raynare to cry out in shock as her retinas burn from the flareup, making her shield her eyes and face with an arm as she loses altitude in a mad dash to get away.

Now that she's lowered herself from the ceiling and busy rubbing at her eyes, I dash towards her as the sound of my feet pounding against the mats draws her attention.

In a desperate attempt to keep me away, she throws out six light spears with a wave of her hands, doubling the amount she can usually handle and draining much of her reserves. The obvious panic-attack being slightly beyond her control as four of the spears miss me by a wide margin, with the last two so flimsily made that a quick use of [Ki Strike] shatters them instantly.

"Sorry about this," I mutter as soon as I'm within her guard, leaning down to dodge a hidden seventh spear that barely misses my face as I lash out with another [Ki Strike] to her stomach.

As soon as my glowing palm makes contact with her, Raynare crumbles to the ground instantly as I hold back enough of my power to make her cough up the tiniest bit of blood. Had I not done so, the amount of power I can put into that attack would have either sent her flying into the wall, or blown straight through her stomach, likely killing her in an instant.

"AGH!" Over my shoulder, a shout of exertion from Kalawarner tells me she's finally back in the fight. Turning around as I feel the buildup of power, I'm suitably impressed by the sight of her wielding a significantly larger broadsword of light as she swings it down in a perfect vertical arc towards my head.

'Seems like both she and Raynare have come up with a few surprises.' Between the change in weapon from the spears she used to create, to Raynare's ability with creating multiple spears and having them floating around her body like weaponized satellites, there's no denying the two of them have been putting their all into growing stronger. 'Unfortunately for them, I've got some surprises of my own.'

[Class: Monk] - Lvl. 27 (Apprentice)

'[Monk: Ki Tornado].' Before her massive broadsword can hit me, Kalawarner is thrown back by a sudden tornado of golden Ki energy that surrounds my body, shattering her weapon and tearing through the front of her bodysuit like paper, revealing two watermelon-sized mounds glistening with sweat as they jiggle in the air. 'Heh, nice.'

Even with the patted mats on the ground offering some protection against rough landings, she still hits the ground hard enough to spit out a few droplets of blood.

"And that, I believe, is my win." I say out loud as soon as the fighting settles, leaving me standing there shirtless with only the slightest bit of sweat and small pant while the other two groan out in pain. "Yeah…I'm definitely going to be apologizing for this."

At least I got to try out one of the latest abilities I got for getting Monk to Apprentice.

[Monk: Ki Flurry] (Active) - Lvl. 7 (Novice)

A flurry of Ki empowered hits that has you strike faster after each hit.

[Monk: Ki Tornado] (Active) - Lvl. 9 (Novice)

Create a tornado of Ki energy around yourself.

The [Ki Flurry] ability I had to withhold from using because of how much damage a single [Ki Strike] did to them, let alone what sort of damage several similar consecutive strikes would do.

But the [Ki Tornado] actually performed better than I hoped it would.

The [Shinshoku: Barrier] ability that I have from my Summoner Class is nice, but it's an entirely defensive skill whereas the Tornado at least offers some offensive capability.

Of course, the defensive power of the Barrier is drastically better than the Tornado; so in moments where I can't risk the possibility of the [Ki Tornado] failing on me, I'm always going to fall back on the Barrier.

Hearing Raynare and Kalawarner groan, I push my thoughts about my skills to the side as I begin healing their wounds. 'Yikes, some of these bruises look painful. I may need to look into sparring with stronger opponents in the future if this is what happens after a simple spar with them; if I get any stronger, my attacks really will kill them next time.'

- Timeskip -

After our first -and last- sparring session, I spend the next several hours treating the Fallen to massages and several rounds of sex before they eventually forgave me.

From then on, we moved away from them fighting me to having me instructing them on some ways in which they can improve upon the skills they showed during our spar. The most obvious tip I gave them being to work on the stability of their light weapons, and the number of copies they can create in battle.

It only took me showing them a single example of the havoc I can wreak with my [Bladesmith Arsenal] to get them excited about the idea of one day being able to do the same thing.

After that, it wasn't very long before it was time to say goodbye to both them and Asia.

The Angel Faction finally got around to sending someone to come pick the little nun up, and I have to say I didn't expect who showed up at my door.

Stepping out of the main building on a wonderfully bright, cloudless day, I began walking across the main courtyard towards the front gate where the Fallen and Asia are already waiting on our guest from the Angels to arrive.

"Got everything packed?" I ask as soon as I reach the group. Raynare and Kalawarner both shared a rather fond farewell with me the night before, so them settling for simple hugs and kisses on the cheek as I arrive weren't a surprise. Glancing next to the Fallen at the surprising amount of luggage Asia has with her, I chuckle at the small blush Ichi and San have on their faces.

It turns out that Asia doesn't just get along well with the Servants, the little blonde bundle of innocence and joy actually wormed her way into the hearts of my Guardian Servants as well.

After that, the two went a little overboard in purchasing anything and everything they felt Asia would need once she left us; leading to the several new pieces of luggage stuffed full with clothes and other necessities.

"Yes!" Asia exclaims with a brilliant smile, once again back in the nun's uniform she wore on the first day she arrived. "Ichi and San were so nice in helping me pack last night, I can't believe all of the stuff I now have."

Stepping around her luggage, Asia practically tackles me around the waist with her hug.

Radiates an aura of Holy Light that burns Devils and Undead on contact.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you Sora! For everything!" She gushes, squeezing me with all the strength her tiny arms have. "This has been some of the best days of my life! I can't thank you enough for everything that you've done for me."

Smiling warmly down at her, I wrap my arms around her shoulders in a tight hug. "I should be the one thanking you, Asia." Seeing her glance up at me with a confused look, I chuckle. "This place can get boring at times, and having you around has been like a breath of fresh air for not just me, but my Summons as well."

Motioning with my head over her shoulder, the blonde nun turns around to see Ichi and San nodding emphatically.

"Remember this, Asia." I speak softly as her eyes begin to tear up with emotion. "If you ever need a place to stay, you're always welcome here with us."

Unable to get the words out, she settles for burying her head in the robes of my kimono as small tears of joy begin to hall down her cheeks.

+6 Affection and Obedience with Raynare … Affection: 88 | Obedience: 61

+6 Affection and Obedience with Kalawarner … Affection: 85 | Obedience: 61

Feeling a small jolt from my connection to the Gamer's Barrier, letting my know that someone is waiting outside, I motion for Ichi to go let them in.

"Seems like whoever it is sent by Heaven has finally arrived." I reply, giving Asia a few moments to collect herself before letting go of our hug. "I wonder who it is they've sent…the power coming off them is immense."

If what I'm sensing is right, they're power is well beyond the two Fallen's, and even eclipses my own by a large margin. 'This better not end up turning into a fight at the last second, because I don't think I can defeat whoever this is.'

"It's probably one of the higher ups in Heaven," Raynare comments aloud. "The Angels don't want this agreement to go bad any more than we do, and if it's just one of them then it's likely to be a Seraph."

'A Seraph, huh?' It'll be the first time that I've met one of them; the closest being Azazel who, frankly, isn't as strong as the one currently walking up the path to the main gate. 'They couldn't have sent Michael…right?'

Close, but not quite.

The head of flowing curly blonde hair falling down around the person's shoulders is similar to how I remember Michael's looking in the anime. But instead of a man's body dressed in red armor, it's a noticeably curvy body covered in a beautifully pristine white dress. '[Observe].'

Gabriel - Level 323 - Seraph of Kindness

Angel - 12 Winged

Affection: 0 | Obedience: 0

Well, this is a surprise. Not just one of the Seraph, but the woman who is considered to be the most beautiful in all of Heaven. 'And she certainly looks it.'

Standing almost six feet in height, Gabriel is a remarkably tall woman with a face that screams innocence and natural beauty. Unlike the Devils and Fallen, there's almost an untouchable pristine look to her appearance; as if the very concept of seduction were removed from her features on purpose.

It's almost like looking at a painting, with how soft and delicate her features are. 'Probably done by God on purpose, to keep her face from tempting other Angels.'

At least, that's what I originally think before the Angel walks close enough to make out the rest of her. And even with the thick material of her white dress doing its best to keep anything sinful from showing, the pair of large breasts that almost rival Kalawarner's watermelons just can't be hidden.

At my side, Raynare and Kalawarner can't seem to take their eyes off the swaying mounds on Gabriel's chest as she reaches us.

"Good morning, everyone!" Gabriel greets with a wonderfully happy tone, "I hope I'm not disturbing you all, but I'm here to pick up Asia Argento."

Stepping forward from the group, Gabriel's beautiful baby-blue eyes turn to me before widening in surprise and recognition.

"Hello, I'm Sora Sakai." I introduce myself with a polite bow, getting one in return from the angelic woman who severely out-levels me. "You must be the one Heaven sent to come collect her…Gabriel, right?"

First Impression:

+10 Affection and Obedience with Gabriel… Affection: 10 | Obedience: 10

"Ah! You must be the magician that Azazel mentioned!" Gabriel exclaims with a curious look, taking in my appearance without any of the lust or interest I usually get from women. "How wonderful it is to meet another Longinus user, and one who's so strong too. Oh, Dulio will be so excited when I tell him!"

Casually name-dropping a Longinus user who even I know is one of the most powerful Sacred Gear users to ever live, Gabriel casts her eyes around the group standing near me before focusing in on the only other blonde. "And you must be Asia…"

Stepping past me to walk closer to the little nun, everyone -including myself- tenses in preparation for the unlikely event that Gabriel tries something. All of us having grown fond of Asia, and ready and willing to do our best to protect her if the situation calls for it.

Luckily, it doesn't have to come to blows as the Seraph walks up to the nun before offering her a sad smile. "I'm so sorry for everything that's happened to you."

The amount of genuine sadness and remorse in Gabriel's tone surprises all of us, and causes Raynare and Kalawarner to dispel the small daggers of light that they're hiding behind their backs as a precaution.

"It's okay," Asia replies with a stunned look on her face. "Sometimes these things happen…I'm just glad to have made such wonderful friends as a result who were willing to take me in and help me out."

Glancing over the taller blonde's shoulder, she sends me a heartfelt smile in thanks.

'This girl…' I sigh in disbelief, feeling my chest warm at her words. 'I don't care what the future brings, I'll be her friend and help her out no matter what may come.'

+22 Affection and Obedience with Gabriel… Affection: 32 | Obedience: 32

Pulling the smaller girl into a hug, the Angel of Kindness turns to me with what I can only describe as the very picture of heartfelt gratitude with how warm her smile is. "Thank you, for watching over her. I know you were dragged into this by Azazel, but we in Heaven truly appreciate all it is you've done to try and help this girl where we failed."

"I'm just glad she's finally got the chance to return to a place she belongs." I reply with the faintest blush on my cheeks.

I'm not used to this much raw emotion coming from someone who has no ulterior motives or desires. The naked honest truth in her eyes is unlike anything I've seen before, and I'm not exactly sure how to handle it.

Remembering what I wanted to say to the person who came to pick Asia up, my blush fades as I give Gabriel a stern look. "I hope that this time around, your Faction will do a better job in protecting her. Asia is a wonderful girl, and if I even think that you've abused her trust in you all, then I will come for her…and I will go through anyone that gets in my way."

Seeing the shocked look on Asia's face as I basically threaten one of the leaders of Heaven, I send her the kindest look I can. "After all, I'd do anything to protect my friends."

+12 Affection and Obedience with Asia Argento… Affection: 77 | Obedience: 77

+12 Affection and Obedience with Gabriel… Affection: 42 | Obedience: 42

"You have some truly wonderful friends," Gabriel says quietly to Asia as she lets go of their hug, not even remotely upset at my having just threatened her and Heaven. "I'm glad that despite everything you've gone through, there's been some good that's come of the bad."

"T-Thank you." Asia replies softly.

A silence settles over the group as Raynare and Kalawarner help Asia and the Servants carry her things to the end of the Barrier, the Fallen's luggage taken along with now that their mission is over. There's no need to for goodbyes or farewells with them, what's needed to be said about our wonderful time together has already been said, and so they quickly take their leave as Gabriel prepares a teleportation circle for her and Asia.

"Before you leave," I speak up after Raynare and Kalawarner disappear, drawing Gabriel's attention. "I hope that in the future, despite my words regarding Asia's safety, we can build a pleasant future relationship together between your Faction and myself."

"You need not worry about that," Gabriel replies with a smile. "When I tell the others of the kindness you've shown to young Asia, I have no doubts that they will see your heart in the same way as I am coming to see it…"

Seeing that Asia's finished gathering her things within the teleportation circle, the little nun waves at me tearfully in goodbye while Gabriel offers her own farewell. "May Father bless you and watch over you, Sora Sakai."

"So long, Asia." I wave back, "And it was nice getting to meet you, Gabriel."

With that, the teleportation circle activates and the two blondes disappear.

…I'm really going to miss that ray of sunshine.

Walking back up the stone pathway and through the front gate, I stop as soon as I reach Ichi and San who had stayed to watch Asia's leaving while the Servants who carried all of the luggage went back to their daily tasks. "Say…Ichi, San?"

"Yes, Master?" Ichi replies curiously, her dark eyes staring at me with the hint of water in them after all of the tearful goodbyes.

"…just how much money did you spend on buying Asia's things?"

"…"

"…"

"…sorry Master." She replies with a heavy blush on her pale cheeks, glancing down at the ground and her black suit in embarrassment while San tries to look anywhere but in my direction.

"-sigh- Back to the Dungeons then." Looks like today's going to be another busy day of Dungeon grinding. "You know what? Gather the other Summons together, it's time we finished getting you all leveled up."

Seeing my two female Guardian Servants nod before heading off to gather the others, I sigh as I run my fingers through my short white hair before reading through the latest textbox that's appeared.

Quest Completed!

[Holy Maiden Once More]

Reward:

[Shard of Holy Light], [Necklace of Friendship]

Pulling out the two items I got from the rewards, I cast [Observe] on them as a soft smile makes its way onto my face after reading what the second one says.

[Shard of Holy Light] (Rare) - (Catalyst)

"A fragment of power that once belonged to the Angels."

A catalyst containing a powerful source of Light.

[Necklace of Friendship] (Uncommon) - (Item)

A necklace symbolizing a new and lasting friendship.

The necklace is a small silver metal chain with what looks to be a replica of Asia's Twilight Healing looped through it. The small metal ring has the same blue-green gem as the original, but doesn't come with any of the abilities that the Sacred Gear has. 'Still, it's a nice memento to carry with me.'

Carefully bringing the chain up over my head, I slip the necklace on and smile as the ring comes to rest in the center of where my kimono robes join together. 'Perfect.'

Putting the [Shard of Holy Light] away for later, I get my game-face on as all of my Summons begin to gather around the open courtyard in front of me.

I've I'm leaving too many of my skills un-MAX'ed, including not getting my Summons leveled up as I've been doing most of the Dungeon runs solo, and the completionist in me is beginning to freak out now that I've got an entirely new Class of skills to start working on that's on top of everything else.

'It's time we did something about that. What do you say, Gaia?'

'...Gaia?'

-Sniff- I'm gonna mish Ashia~!

:*(

'Me too, Gaia. Me too.'

Author Notes:

And that's Chapter 20!

It's been a little while since my last chapter, so this one might have a slightly different pace or feel to it from the others as I get back into the swing of this story.

My chapter posting is going to a bit chaotic as I switch back and forth between this story and the Marvel one, so don't expect there to be any specific days in which I'll post. It's all based on what I have time for, and which of the stories I have the most desire to work on at any given moment.

In regards to Gabriel's level, which I know some of you are going to complain about, I think that it's a good fit for her considering she's the one who takes over as the Leader of Heaven after Michael is sealed away with the other Faction Leaders in the manga.

So, it stands to reason that she'd be somewhere above the other Seraphs, and powerful enough to at least match beat one of the Satans.

If you don't agree, I don't care.

Hope you all are still liking it so far! Thanks for checking out my story.
