Chapter 12 - chapter 12

Punch

Jay-jay's POV!

"I'm going to kill Edy!" Ci-N yelled.

"His name isn't even Edy!" Josh snapped, trying to keep the cat away from Ci-N.

They've been like this since yesterday. After Ci got her anti-rabies shot, she's been acting off, constantly looking for the cat.

Good thing Josh was smart enough to hold on to it and not let go.

"Leave the cat alone already!" I scolded Ci-N.

"But he bit me, Jay..." she said, almost in tears.

I scratched the back of my head. Well, it was her fault she got bitten. Who pokes a cat while it's eating?

"It was your fault," Mayo said, stroking Edy's head.

"I even fed him! And I'm the one he bit?!" Ci whined.

"You saw it was a cat. Not like a dog. What were you thinking?" Josh lectured.

"Go ahead, keep defending that stupid cat!" Ci snapped, suddenly hugging me. "They're all ganging up on me."

But before the hug could even last, someone pulled us apart. We all turned to look.

Yuri...

"You're getting too attached to Jay-jay. Maybe tone it down a bit," he said.

Ci didn't respond but looked at me like she was saying, "What's Yuri's problem?" Yuri left, but we all kept our eyes on him.

He looked jealous again.

Speaking of jealousy, I found myself glancing at Keifer. He was staring straight at me.

I couldn't tell if he was mad or what.

I looked away—but my eyes went back to him for some reason I couldn't explain. Then, suddenly, he rolled his eyes.

Damn!

He was sharper with that eye roll than I ever was!

Annoying jerk.

"Are you and Yuri a thing?" Mayo asked me.

I shook my head. "N-no."

"Then why does he act like he owns you?" Ci added.

"W-well... I-it's just that..."

Tsk! Annoying!

It's all Yuri's fault. Now I don't even know how to respond. So frustrating!

"Don't act like you don't know Yuri. He was the same way with Ella before," Josh chimed in.

"Yeah," Mayo laughed. "And in the end, your buddy ended up brokenhearted."

I got irritated at what he said. They were making fun of something Yuri cried so hard over. As if they didn't go through similar things.

I stood up and walked away. I heard Ci calling after me, but I didn't look back.

I went up to the second floor of the building.

The wind's stronger up there—it feels cooler, more refreshing. When I got there, I found Kit.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

She looked at me and forced a smile. "Nothing... I just wanted to be alone."

"Same..." I said and sat beside her.

"So... how are things with you and... um... Mayo?"

"I don't know. He keeps bugging me, but I really don't want it anymore. I want to fix what's wrong with me."

"There's nothing wrong with you. There's nothing wrong with being third gender," I said, and she looked at me.

"Easy for you to say. You're not the one living it."

I froze. She was right. I'm not in her shoes, so I shouldn't say things like that.

"Maybe... But it's not like you chose this. You became this way for a reason."

She chuckled faintly. "Exactly. But I wish I'd been given a choice before I ended up like this."

"Who knows... Everything happens for a reason."

We both went quiet. It felt awkward, but the strong breeze kept things from being too tense.

"Should I go through with it? Maybe if it works, I can be a real guy again," she said, leaning in toward me.

I clenched my fist. "Try putting your lips on me again and see what happens," I warned, and she burst out laughing.

I glared at her. This girl! I really thought she was gonna try again.

Then the bell rang. Class time.

"Let's go..." she said.

I nodded. We started walking toward the stairs, but we both stopped when we saw someone standing there. The look on his face—confusion, shock, and anger all at once.

"You... kissed Jay-jay?" Mayo asked.

Kit didn't answer and just walked past him. I immediately followed.

"Wait! I'm still talking to you!" Mayo yelled.

Kit still ignored him and kept walking. We were almost at the classroom when Mayo suddenly grabbed her arm. Their glares clashed.

"Let go of me," Kit demanded.

"I said I'm talking to you!" Mayo snapped.

Honestly, I didn't know what to do. This wasn't my business. I wasn't part of their love triangle.

I tried to just walk past them to get to the room, but a hand stopped me.

"Stay here," Kit said.

Mayo immediately glared at me.

Why is he mad at me?!

"Is it Jay-jay? Is she the reason?" Mayo asked Kit.

I quickly shook my head. "Hey, no!"

"Then why'd you let her kiss you?! You like her too! Nice! You've already got Keifer and Yuri after you, now you're going after Kit?!"

My brows furrowed. What was he trying to say?

Kit grabbed Mayo by the collar. "Don't talk to Jay-jay like that!"

"Why not? It's the truth! She's no different from Ell—"

A punch from Kit cut him off. He fell to the ground.

I gasped, shocked. Students started pouring out of the classroom.

"What happened?!" Edrix asked, helping Mayo up.

"Nothing... He was being rude, so I punched him," Kit answered flatly and walked into the room.

The others stayed behind while I stared dumbly at Mayo.

He stood up, shoved Edrix aside, and glared at me.

"You and I need to talk," he said firmly and dragged me to the side of the building.

"H-hey! You're hurting me, Mayo!" I shouted, trying to pull my arm back.

We stopped by a tree. I yanked my hand away with force.

"What is your problem?!" I snapped.

"Do you like Kit?!" he yelled.

"I don't like her!" I shouted back.

"She kissed you and you let her!"

"Idiot! I didn't let her! She tried but didn't succeed! I didn't let her kiss me!" I screamed, my voice almost hoarse.

This guy is so dense! You have to yell just to get it into his thick skull.

But I forgot we were close to the room. Someone might've heard us.

"Who tried to kiss you?" someone asked.

Mayo and I turned to look.

Thank god it wasn't the King. I'd have fainted right then and there.

"Who?" Edrix repeated.

"I-it's nothing... You heard wrong," I said.

"But you were yelling so—"

"Edrix! Please!" I begged. I didn't want to say it was Kit. If Keifer found out, who knows what he'd do to her?

"Does Keifer know?" Edrix asked.

I quickly shook my head and got closer to him. "P-please don't tell. Please!"

"But Jay—"

"Can you not butt in?!" Mayo snapped at him.

Edrix frowned. He was clearly pissed at Mayo's tone.

"What's your problem?!" he asked.

"We're having a conversation, and it's none of your business!" Mayo pointed at me.

"Don't you point at Jay-jay like that!" Edrix shouted and stepped toward him.

I had to step in between them. If I didn't, they'd fight. The others would come out, and someone would ask what happened.

They'd find out what Kit did.

"What? Has she fooled you too?!" Mayo sneered, pointing at me again.

"Nice! Go ahead, flirt with all of Section E, might as well! You're no different from Ella!"

"What did you say?! Don't you—"

I didn't let Edrix finish. No point in wasting his breath on this jerk. I handled it myself.

I was mad! Of all people, he compared me to Ella. He could've picked anyone else!

"J-Jay... He's bleeding," Edrix said, looking down at Mayo on the ground.

Oops. My bad!

I couldn't help it. I punched him.

But I might've overdone it.

His nose was bleeding.

Ugh! Totally messed up! That punch was too strong. I just hope I didn't break anything in his nose.
