Chapter 105 - Consuming the Immortal Herbs

Actually, it wasn't necessary to come all the way to the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well to detoxify Dugu Yan.

Her poison wasn't as potent as Dugu Bo's, and at this stage, medication alone could suppress it.

Fang Ling initially suggested doing it at home or at the academy, that would have been sufficient.

However, to ensure safety and leave room for contingency, Dugu Bo chose to bring the two of them here.

If any unexpected complications arose, the immortal herbs at this place could be used to suppress the toxins.

"According to your theory, drinking a certain amount of your fresh blood would allow her to adapt to the extreme ice and fire properties here?"

Dugu Bo had already heard Fang Ling's explanation once before bringing them here, but since it concerned his granddaughter's safety, he still had some doubts.

"That's right," Fang Ling reaffirmed.

Tang San had done the same with Ah Yin and Tang Hao when they stayed at the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well.

The medicinal power of the two herbs hadn't been completely digested in his blood. While it wouldn't be enough to swim freely in the well, it was more than enough to protect someone from the extreme ice and fire aura.

"How much is needed?" Dugu Yan asked softly.

"Uh…" Fang Ling hesitated. He remembered they drank some, but couldn't recall the exact amount. "Let's start with 100 drops?"

A hundred drops actually wasn't much, far less than what he had lost when removing the soul bone previously.

In practical terms, it was barely enough to wet the mouth.

"One hundred drops?" A flicker of surprise crossed Dugu Yan's eyes.

"Isn't that a bit much?" Dugu Bo said thoughtfully.

He had only used five drops a day during his own detox treatment.

"The ice and fire aura is highly invasive, and Yan's cultivation isn't that strong yet. I'm just worried it might damage her physical foundation," Fang Ling explained.

Suddenly, a thought struck him,he remembered the cave from before.

"How about we don't go straight to the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well? Let's start at the cave where you tested my combat ability last time?"

"We can stay there a few days first. She can drink small amounts daily. It's nearby, without the direct assault of the yin-yang aura. If anything goes wrong, we can adjust immediately."

"Good suggestion," Dugu Bo's eyes lit up.

He quickly brought them back to the cave from last time.

Because of the strong aura left behind by powerful soul beasts and Dugu Bo's poison mist, there were no pests or creatures around. The space was spacious and ideal as a temporary location.

"Let's do it here. I'll watch over you. Begin."

"What do I do?" Dugu Yan looked at Fang Ling.

"Sit down first," he said calmly, gesturing.

She sat on a cushion Fang Ling had placed.

"Look up and open your mouth. Since it's the first time, we'll go light, let's start with five drops. We can add more if needed."

If she had a higher cultivation, Fang Ling could've simply let the blood drip through the air.

But since Dugu Yan was only at the Soul Elder level, she couldn't use soul power to absorb it like Dugu Bo.

She followed his instructions.

Then Fang Ling extended a finger with a small cut above her mouth.

Bright red blood dripped onto her soft tongue, the sweet and metallic taste rushing up her nose.

After two drops, she looked up and met Fang Ling's gentle smile.

She instinctively wanted to smile back but was quickly stopped as he grabbed her chin.

"Don't move, don't waste it."

"After you finish the five drops, start circulating your soul power right away. Let the energy flow through your soul bone."

Following his instructions, Dugu Yan calmly began channeling her energy.

Two months passed in the blink of an eye.

Fang Ling, now eleven years old, used eight points to break through to Level 33.

The points required for leveling had doubled again, leaving him with only two points remaining.

After the initial two-week adjustment period for Dugu Yan, she was moved into the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well.

Her poison was deeply rooted, inherited through her bloodline. But the fact that medicine could suppress it meant it wasn't as severe as Dugu Bo's.

Thus, the treatment was aggressive and used in larger doses. In just two months, the detoxification was complete.

At the moment it finished, she felt a lightness in her body and an overwhelming sense of comfort from within.

Overcome with emotion, Dugu Yan instinctively hugged Fang Ling tightly. "Fang Ling, thank you."

Two soft masses pressed against his chest, and a faint fragrance drifted into his nose.

His body froze.

But seeing the encouraging gaze and smile from Dugu Bo nearby, Fang Ling understood. He immediately returned the embrace.

The external soul bone he had once gifted her, through three months of companionship, had finally borne fruit.

And this also signaled that it was time to consume the immortal herbs.

Suppressing the excitement in his heart, Dugu Yan stepped back, licking her lips as she gave Fang Ling a flirtatious glance.

Under the gaze of the two, Fang Ling said with great anticipation:

"Teacher, I'm ready to consume the immortal herbs suited for me."

Fang Ling had previously informed Dugu Bo of the various herbs. However, among those at the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well, none were particularly suited for him.

The only one that was,Earth Dragon Golden Melon,he had wanted to save for Dugu Yan, so he had hesitated.

However, he had long planned which herb Dugu Bo should take.

Plagued by poison for years, Dugu Bo's body had been severely weakened. It needed reinforcement to regain a solid foundation.

And for that, the Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng of the agility clan was the perfect match.

But the timing wasn't quite right,he'd wait until he was closer with Dugu Yan.

Once that happened, there were things he could more easily bring up.

Hearing this, Dugu Bo asked directly, "Have you decided?"

Fang Ling nodded. "Yes. I'll first take the Qirong Tongtian Chrysanthemum, then the Autumn Dew of Piercing Sight, and finally the Black Jade Divine Bamboo."

The reason for starting with the Qirong Tongtian Chrysanthemum was simple,it helped open the meridians and improve their circulation.

It was a neutral immortal herb. Consuming it would enhance the limbs and clear the eight channels, possibly forging an indestructible body.

Its soul power was neutral, grand and vast, compatible with strong and domineering cultivators.

Whatever else it may be, the line "nourishes limbs and clears eight meridians" made it clear it was related to internal energy flow, likely granting a talent that increased soul power circulation speed.

The next was the Autumn Dew of Piercing Sight, long decided.

It was said to develop Fiery Golden Eyes, capable of seeing through all illusions.

The effects were certainly hyped, but Fang Ling mainly valued its enhancement to eyesight.

It had once helped Tang San's Purple Demon Eye see through Xiao Wu's disguise. For a talent like Weakness Detection, which relied heavily on vision, it was a perfect match.

As for the Black Jade Divine Bamboo, no explanation was needed.

It could strengthen one's martial spirit, increasing its toughness. Even if it lacked sharpness, it would at least be hard enough to withstand blows from powerful spirits.

Any issues with sharpness would be offset by the improved Weakness Detection skill.

The reason it was placed last was because, unlike point-based improvements, it rapidly boosted soul power, possibly too fast to control.

Or it might conflict with the Qirong Tongtian Chrysanthemum's medicinal power.

Though one strengthened the body and the other enhanced the martial spirit, both would increase soul power substantially.

And there was no mention of this interaction in the Ye family's herb manual.

After all, immortal herbs were rare. Who would have the chance to eat several of them?
